英语口语话题答案
Topics & Situations for College English Oral Test
(Grade 2007)
1. Student A worries about his term paper and the final test. He
comes to B and C for help. A even
mentions the ways of cheating (such as asking them to write a term
paper for him or
downloading articles from the Internet, preparing a cheat-sheet
etc.). B and C offer him some
wise suggestions.
P21
2. Three students are discussing what they took into consideration
when coming to the choice of a
university and a major before graduation from high school.
3. As we have seen and heard, both single parents and their children
suffer a lot of physical,
psychological as well as emotional stress. A thinks that remarriage
is a solution. However, B and C
strongly oppose the idea of remarriage, holding that it’s too
difficult for both step-parents and their
children to really accept each other.
4. You are considering getting married. But you are not sure whether
you’d like to have a baby within the first two years of your marriage life. You are talking about
this with your close friends who are
married with kids.
Sample dialogue:
A: I am getting married in May.
B: Congratulations.
A: But I don’t think I am psychologically prepared. I am not sure
whether to have a baby within
the first two years.
B: To raise a baby needs much effort. You can’t enjoy yourself with
the heavy burden of both
housework and taking care of the baby.
A: That’s my worry. I have to leave my job in such a case.
B: Why not consider raising the baby later, I mean, work for 4 or 5
years and then have a baby?
A: I know what you mean. But John disagrees with me. He says 4 or 5
years is a long time to wait.
B: I know it’s a bit long. But he has to think about your career.
You are close to get a promotion.
A: “What has that got to do with having a baby?” That’s his view.
He says I can continue with the
job after 5 or 6 months’ maternal leave.
B: He has his point. But look at my situation. I had hoped to
continue working after having the baby. But things don’t always go your own way.
A: That’s right. I have to consider this carefully.
5. Mr. and Mrs. Jones are having dinner in a restaurant for their
wedding anniversary and a waiter
gives them some roses sent by the manager. They appreciated the
manager’s consideration so
much.
Useful words and expressions: send his best wishes, a happy
anniversary, appreciate the manager’s consideration
6. Two friends in the same class are asking the teacher how to
prepare for a job interview and what
should be paid attention to in an interview. (Consider the physical
appearance; make a list of
skills and knowledge one has that would be valuable for the job; be
prompt and take the interview
confidently etc.)
Your tips are:
Everything must be clean, neat and ironed; shoes must be polished.
Clean and polish your briefcase or purse; organize the inside
Hair and nails must be clean and groomed
Use low-key scent
Wear little jewelry (but real gold or silver or pearls)
A: What can I do for you? B: Well, I am looking for a job as a public relations manager. I am
confident about interviewing questions and my qualifications. But I am a
little worried about my appearance.
A: Interviewees are examined from head to toe at the beginning of
the interview. Not only your experience and personality but also your
appearance is sized up. You are what you wear.
B: Yes, I see. What’s your advice, please?
A: Make sure that everything is clean, neat and ironed and shoes
should be polished. Check your suit and make sure
there are no bulging pockets or sagging coat lining.
B: OK. Can I use perfume?
A: Scent should be low-key or absent. Too much perfume is an instant
interview killer. B: Is it OK for me to wear some jewelry?
A: Real jewelry, but not too much. No jewelry is better than fake.
You’d better not wear anything too flashy.
B: Good. Thanks for your advice.
Sample dialogue:
A: Would you please give me some tips for a successful interview?
B: First of all, you need to dress professionally.
A: What should I do during the interview?
B: Keeping good eye contact is very important. Be confident. Don’t
look too shy, nor should you sound too
aggressive.
A: I hear interviewers often ask about work experience.
