Today I am going to talk about the first period in Section B of Unit 9 Have you ever been to an amusement park? , which is taken from Go for it, Book 4. My presentation consists of six parts:I. Analysis of the teaching materiali) Status and functionThis unit is aiming at talking about interesting places. The first period serves as an introduction and a lead-in part. The materials in talking are mostly fro m the recent real life and are familiar to students, so it is helpful to raise En glish learning interests of Ss. Listening and pair work are also used in this per iod, which will be of great help to improve their spoken English.ii) Teaching aims and demands1. Knowledge ObjectiveBy the end of this lesson, Ss can learn the Key vocabulary: improve, English-speaking country, exchange student, rather than. And can express their past experiences.2. Ability ObjectiveIn this lesson, I’ll mainly train the Ss’listening and speaking abilities and dev elop the Ss’ abilities of communication by learning the u seful structures.3. Moral ObjectiveTo raise their englis learning interests and the spirit of cooperation4. Teaching keys and difficultiesAccording to the teaching aims, I think the focus of this lesson is the new ex pressions and help the Ss to communicate with each other. The difficulty is to help the Ss express their own ideas with the useful structure we learned in th is lesson..5.Teaching aidsMulti-mediaII.Analysis of the studentsThe Ss have learned English for years, they can express their thought and com municate with each other with English well. And all the Ss will be interested in the topic about their past experience, which is related to their real life. It’s helpful for our study of this lesson. But most of the students come from count ryside, they are shy to speak English outIII.Teaching methodsIn this lesson, I’ll mainly use the “task-based”teaching method and communic ative approach, which is helpful to develop the Ss’ thought.I think good teach ing methods are the keys to success.IV.Teaching proceduresStep 1 leading inThe teacher and the students enjoy the English song My heart will go on, and some beautiful pictures of some English speaking countries. Then have a five minutes free talk about why we study English with the question:T: Do you like this English song? I like this song and I want to learn more English songs, that’s why I study English. Then let’s have a talk about why we study English? That’s Unit 9 Have you ever been to an amusement park? Section B.Step 2 revisionAsk some students have you ever been to an English speaking country? and collecting theanswers. This step is used here to review the learned knowledge in section AStep 3 PresentationRead the instructions and ask the students to listen to the recorder and finish the listening exercises. Play the recorder again and ask the students to write down what they hear as much as they can.Purpose: This step is used to train the students’ listening ability.Present the questions in activity 2a and an example conversation, and then ask the students to role play the interview with their own information.Purpose of my designing: This part is very important. It is necessary to help the students to use what they have learnt.Step 4 Practice20 minutes for students to present their conversations, pay attention to their pronunciation and grammarStep 5. Summary and homeworkT: Today we learnt some new words and phrases and how to express our own ideas. I hope you can learn the new words by heart and look for some information about the hilltop language school after class. I was quite satisfied with the part of oral practice, because every student participated in listening and talking. They could give correct answers when they stood up.
