When I first heard about the opportunity to participate

in a teaching placement, I was both excited and nervous. I

had always been interested in teaching, but I didn't know

if I was ready for the challenges of working in a new

environment. However, I decided to go for it, and I'm so

glad I did.

My teaching placement was in a small village in rural

China. I taught English to students from kindergarten to

middle school. The students were all very eager to learn,

and they made my job a lot of fun. I also learned a lot

about Chinese culture and history from my students and

colleagues.

One of the biggest challenges I faced was the language

barrier. I only spoke a little bit of Chinese when I

arrived, but I quickly picked up more as I spent time with my students and colleagues. I also learned a lot about non-verbal communication, which was essential for communicating

with my students.

Another challenge was the cultural differences. I had

to learn to adapt to a new way of life and a new set of

values. For example, in China, it is considered rude to

speak loudly or to interrupt someone. I also had to learn

to eat with chopsticks!

Despite the challenges, I had an amazing experience

during my teaching placement. I learned so much about

myself, about teaching, and about Chinese culture. I also

made some lifelong friends. I would highly recommend a

teaching placement to anyone who is interested in teaching

or learning about a new culture.
