1My 8th Grade English ClassHi there! I'm so excited to tell you all about my 8th grade English class this year. We're using the New Concept English textbooks and I think they are really cool. My teacher, Ms. Roberts, seems really nice too. She has a big smile and is always trying to make class fun.On the first day, Ms. Roberts went over the whole year's teaching plan and schedule with us. I grabbed my new notebook to take notes on what she said. Here's a breakdown of whatwe're covering:Book 1 - September to NovemberWe're starting with Book 1 which has 12 units. In each unit, there are reading passages, vocabulary lists, grammar points, and practice exercises. The readings look interesting - things like stories, poems, and articles on science and culture. The grammar seems challenging but important. We'll learn about tenses, parts of speech, sentence structures and more. Vocab is crucial too. Ms. Roberts said we need to work hard on building our word power. We'll have regular unit tests on the readings, vocab, and grammar. There will also be dictation, listening, and speaking activities. By November, we should finish the entire first book!Book 2 - December to FebruaryAfter the winter break, we'll dive into Book 2 which also has 12 units. This one focuses more on practical English for everyday situations. The readings are things like dialogs, letters, notes, and signs you'd see around town. The grammar will build on what we learned in Book 1, but with more real-world applications. Things like giving instructions, describing processes, and reporting speech. Super useful stuff! We'll keep working hard on vocab too. Lots of word families, idioms, and phrases will come up. The exercises look fun, like roleplaying, problem-solving, and group projects.More tests, quizzes, and spoken assignments for sure. But I'm excited to get that practical English down pat by the end of February!Book 3 - March to MayFor the last book of the year, we're in for a challenge! Book 3 has longer reading passages on history, culture, science and more. The writers and topics look really fascinating though.Grammar will cover advanced concepts like hypotheticals, passive voice, inversion and more. Definitely going to need to stay on top of that! Emily here, an 8th grader who just loooves learning English. This year, we're using the awesome "Go for it" textbooks from the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP). I'm super excited to share with you my epic English class journey! Our teacher, Ms. Wilson, is the coolest. On the first day, she laid out the whole teaching plan and schedule for the year. I haveto admit, I was a bit nervous when I saw how packed it was. But Ms. Wilson assured us that as long as we "go for it" with enthusiasm, we'll have a blast! The Textbook TreasuresThe "Go for it" textbooks are totally rad. They're divided into 8 units, each packed with fun lessons, activities, and projects. Every unit has a few parts:Reading Passages - These are like short stories or articles that introduce the unit topic through a dialog or narrative. The passages look at interesting themes like technology, environment, or cross-cultural experiences.Language Focus - This section breaks down grammar points and vocabulary related to the unit topic. Things like tenses, modal verbs, phrasal verbs - you know, the building blocks of English.Skills Integration - Here's where we practice our listening, speaking, reading and writing skills through group work, role plays, and projects. The activities are super engaging and get us using English in real-life situations.Language Practice - Loads of exercises to reinforce what we've learned in each unit. Repetition is key for retention, right?Self-teaching Study - These are independent learning tasks and assignments to flex our English muscles outside of class. The Awesome ActivitiesI have to give a shoutout to the amazing activities Ms. Wilson has planned! She follows the textbook closely but adds her own creative twists:• Culture Corners - We explore traditions, customs and fun facts about different cultures through videos, food-tasting and show-and-tell.• English Theaters - We get to write, direct and perform short skits/plays in English, bringing the textbook dialogues to life!• English Fever Radio - Taking turns being radio hosts/guests, we discuss hot topics or share personal experiences in English.• Pen Pal Pals - We're paired up with students from other countries and exchange letters/emails to practice our writing skills. The Year at a GlanceOkay, here's a quick overview of how our English journey will unfold:Fall SemesterUnit 1: Personality Matters - Talking about personaltraits/qualitiesUnit 2: Going Green - Environmental protection and recyclingUnit 3: Are You a Netizen? - Internet/technology topicsUnit Test 1 (covering Units 1-3)Unit 4: My View - Agreeing/disagreeing, sharing opinionsWinter Break - Reading/writing assignments to stay fresh!Spring SemesterUnit 5: A Broader Vision - Job aspirations and career planningUnit 6: Cross-Cultural Experiences - Understanding cultural differencesUnit Test 2 (covering Units 4-6)Unit 7: What a Wonderful World - Travel and tourismUnit 8: Save Our Planet - Environmental protection (continued from Unit 2)Final Review and ExamSummer Break - More fun English activities to continue practicing!Whew, I'm out of breath just thinking about everything we'll do this year! Wish me luck on this epic adventure!Your English explorer,Emily篇3An 8th Grader's Guide to English Class This YearHey there, fellow students! As we start a new school year, I wanted to give you all the inside scoop on what English class is going to be like in 8th grade. I still remember being a little kid, dreading English because it seemed so boring and difficult. But now that I'm an experienced 8th grader, I've got to admit - English class is actually kind of awesome! Our English teacher this year is Mrs. Henderson. She's been teaching for ages but she's still really cool and nice. From the first day, she told us that her goal is to make English fun andinteresting while also preparing us for high school. That sounds pretty good to me!The English TextbookThe textbook we're using is called "Exploring English" and it's published by some company called New Educations Press. It's a pretty thick book with 12 units total. Each unit covers different reading passages, vocabulary, grammar concepts, and writing exercises. The readings are actually kind of interesting - we'll read stories, poems, articles, and even some drama excerpts from famous plays. The vocabulary isn't too crazy difficult either. We'll learn roots, prefixes, and lots of new words through the readings. As for grammar, we'll start by reviewing basic sentence structure stuff like nouns, verbs, adjectives and move into more advanced concepts like passive voice, conditionals, reported speech and much more. I'm honestly a little nervous about all the grammar we have to learn, but Mrs. Henderson makes it less painful by having us do fun practice activities.Oh, and there's a big focus on writing this year too! We'll learn how to plan and structure all the different modes of writing like narrative, expository, persuasive and descriptive essays. We'lleven learn about writing research papers, which will be great preparation for high school. The Class ScheduleOkay, so now you're probably wondering what a typical English class will be like. Here's a quick rundown of how Mrs. Henderson splits up the 50 minute period:Bellwork (5 minutes)Each day when we enter class, there will be a short warmup exercise on the board related to grammar, vocabulary or a reading passage. This is meant to get our brains working right away.Review (10 minutes)After bellwork, Mrs. Henderson goes over the previous night's homework and addresses any questions we had. This is a good time to ask for clarification if you were confused about something from the night before.New Material (20 minutes)Then it's time for the main lesson of the day. Depending on the schedule, we'll either read a new passage and discuss it as a class, go over a new grammar concept through guided practice,or work on a new writing skill through modeling and examples. This is the core learning time of each class period.Skill Practice (10 minutes)For the second half of class, we'll put what we just learned into practice. If it was a reading day, we may answer comprehension questions or study new vocabulary words. For grammar days, we'll complete a practice exercise reinforcing the new concept. Writing days could involve planning or drafting short essays or paragraphs.Wrap Up (5 minutes)In the last few minutes, Mrs. Henderson goes over the homework assignment and makes sure we understand what's due for the next class. She also shares any reminders about tests, quizzes or projects coming up. Then we're dismissed and the mad dash to our next class begins!Unit Tests and ProjectsWhile day-to-day homework and participation make up a big chunk of our grade, we'll also have to study hard for regular unit tests and complete some bigger projects and writing assignments throughout the year. Here's a quick preview:Unit Tests (after every 2 units)At the end of every other unit, we'll take a test covering all the skills and concepts we learned over that section of material. The tests have:Multiple choice reading comprehension questionsVocabulary matchingEditing tasks for grammarOne or two writing promptsNot gonna lie, these tests are pretty comprehensive, so reviewing diligently with Mrs. Henderson's study guides is a must!Vocabulary Projects (each unit)There's a vocabulary project due at the end of every unit to help reinforce the new word lists we learn. Projects could be anything from making flashcard games to drawing illustrated dictionaries to recording vocabulary skits and raps. These are a fun way to study words in a more creative way.Writing Pieces (4 major ones)We'll work on drafting and revising four bigger writing assignments spread out through the year covering different modes like narrative, persuasive, expository and response toliterature essays. These have to be typed and go through multiple drafts with Mrs. Henderson's feedback.Literature Study (1 per semester)Another exciting part of the 8th grade curriculum is that each semester, we'll read and analyze a full-length novel or play as a class! In the fall, we're tackling The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton and in the spring we'll dive into A Midsummer Night's Dream by Shakespeare. For each book, we'll take reading comprehension quizzes, complete writing assignments and work on a final project or test at the very end.Whew, I know this all probably sounds like a ton of work, but I promise it's really not as overwhelming as it may seem. As long as you stay on top of your assignments and advocate for yourself if you need extra help, you'll be just fine. The best part is, English class helps you become a stronger reader, writer, speaker and thinker - skills that will benefit you in every other subject! Plus, improving your English abilities now gets you ready for the more challenging work ahead in high school and college. So don't be intimidated, 8th graders! Be excited to grow your skills this year with Mrs. Henderson and your classmates.Just go with an open mind, give your best effort, and you might even find yourself having fun in English. Who knew it was possible? Let's make this an awesome year!篇4My 8th Grade English Course PlanHey there! I'm an 8th grader, and I'm super excited to share with you my English course plan for this year.
Self-check:
