趣味英语收集一、认识英语1. What is language for? Some people seem to t hink it's for practicing grammar rules and learn ing lists of words--- the longer the words th e better. That's wrong. Language is for the exc hange of ideas, for communication.(语言到底是用来干什么的呢?一些人认为它是用来操练语法规则和学习一大堆单词--而且单词越长越好。

)二、流行英文1. coolCool一词来自美国,风靡世界,到了中国按其音译就成了“酷”。

C ool的本意是:凉快的(物理上的),凉爽的(感觉上的),冷静的(褒义词),无耻的(贬义词),冷淡的或暗示得意的强调语气用词。

作为流行词汇,它代表着时尚前卫的衣着、举止、形象、生活方式......使用上,常常和某些字结合,比如:真cool,粉cool,太cool了等等。

2.oh yeahYeah就是yes的意思,它最初在英语世界流行与Beatles乐队有关。

1963年Beatles的一曲"she love you"中一连串"yeah, y eah, yeah"的反复叫喊,使其成了流行一时的词汇,频繁出现在报刊头条。

而"oh" 与"yeah"连用,可表示强烈的兴奋激动之情3. Ok, O了OK, okay, 或者O.K. 是英语中常用的口语词汇。

它可以表达a pproval,assent或者acknowledgment的意思。

The origins of OK are not known with certainty, and have been the subjectof much discussion and academic interest over the y ears. As an interjection, ithas been borrowed from English into many other lang uages.关于Ok一词的起源一直没有定论,这也成为学术界多年来为之热议的话题。

作为一个感叹词,ok这个英文词汇已经成为世界性的用语。

在中国,不仅ok的使用频率极高,由ok转化而来的“O了”一说,简洁有趣,动感十足,在年轻人中十分流行。

说到ok,不禁联想起“卡拉OK”。

“卡拉OK”不是源语英语,而是日语Karaoke的音译。

另一个经常用到的词汇KTV则是Karao ke Television 的缩写。

现在我们还常常用到“K歌”这个词,"K "取Karaoke的首字母,表达去唱歌的意思,真是简洁时尚。

4. ...+inging在英语中是动词的一种后缀,是现在进行时态(be + doing)动词的一种分词形式,常常表示正在干什么,正处于某种状态。

如今,许多人喜欢拿它作中文后缀,来表示自己正在做什么或自己的情感。

比如:瞌睡ing,郁闷ing等等。

其他暂且能想到的流行说法还有:shopping,N多,最in,真hig h,Mail我,Q我,Call我,MSN我。

三、最有魔力的一句英文In a class I teach for adults, I recently did the “unpardonable.”I gave the class homework!The assignment was to “go to someone you love within the next w ee k and tell them you love them.It has to be someone you have never said those words to before or a t least haven't shared those words with for a long time.”Now that doesn’t sound like a very tough assignment, until you stop to realize that most of the men were over 35 and were raised in the generation of men that were taught that expressing emotions is not “macho.”Showing feelings or crying (heaven forbid!) was just not done.So this was a very threatening assignment for some.At the beginning of our next class,I asked if someone wanted to share what happened when they told so meone they loved them.I fully expected one of the women to volunteer6, as was usually the case,but on this evening one of the men raised his hand.He appeared quite moved and a bit shaken.As he unfolded out of his chair(all 6 2" of him),he began by saying, Dennis, I was quite angry with you last week w hen you gave us this assignment.I didn’t feel that I had anyone to say those words to, and besides, who were you to tell me to do something that personal8?“But as I began driving home my conscience started talking to meIt was telling me that I knew exactly who I needed to say I love yo u to.You see, five years ago, my father and I had a vicious disagreement and really never resolved it since that time.We avoided seeing each other unless we absolutely had to at Christm as or other family gatherings.But even then, we hardly spoke to each other“So last Tuesday by the time I got home I had convinced myself I was going to tell my father I loved him.“It’s weird, but just making that decision seemed to lift a heavy load off my chest.“When I got home, I rushed into the house to tell my wife what I w as going to do. She was already in bed, but I woke her up anyway. When I told her, she di dn’t just get out of bed, she catapulted out an d hugged my, and for the first time in our married life she saw me cry. We stayed up half the night drinking coffee and talking. It was great!“The next morning I was up bright and early. I was so excited I co u ld hardly sleep. I got to the office early and accomplished more in t wo hours than I had the whole day before.“At 9:00 I called my dad to see if could come over after work. Whe n he answered the phone, I just said, ‘Dad, can I come over after wo rk tonight? I have something to tell you.’ My dad responded with a grumpy, ‘Now what?’ I assured him it wouldn’t take long, so he fina lly agreed.“At 5:30, I was at my parents’ house ringing the doorbell, praying th at Dad would answer the door. I was afraid if Mom answered that I would chicken out and tell her instead. But as luck would have it, D ad did answer the door.“I didn’t waste any time –I took one step in the door and said, ‘Da d, I just came over to tell you that I love you.’“It was as if a transformation came over my dad. Before my eyes his face softened, the wrinkles seemed to disappear and he began to cry. He reached out and hugged me and said, ‘I love you too, son, but I’ve never been able to say it.’“It was such a precious moment I didn’t want to move. Mom walked by with tears in her eyes. I just waved and blew her a kiss. Dad an d I hugged for a moment longer and then I left. I hadn’t felt that gr eat in a long time.“But that’s not even my point. Two days after that visit, my dad, who had heart proble ms, but didn’t tell me, had an attack and ended up in the hospital, unconscious. I don’t know if he'll make it. “So my message to all of you in this is: Don’t wait todo the things you know need to be done.
