When students leave for college at age 17 or 18, many of them have never been away from home and their family. Thetransition to greater freedom and responsibility may be difficult for them, with no one to wake them up for breakfast or do theirlaundry, and fewer classes to attend but larger amounts of homework. Some students do not adjust successfully. In the U.S.,where almost 70% of high school graduates enter college, only a minority of these actually graduate. Elsewhere, with fewerattending college, higher percentages may graduate.
College has many social attractions, some of which can be distractions. Sports, concerts, parties, and dormitory bull sessions(闲聊) can be very time consuming. The temptation to stay up too late at night or sleep too late in the morning is alwayspresent, so self-discipline is an important lesson to learn. In addition many students have part-time jobs, especially in theU.S. where most students have cars and are expected to help their parents pay for tuition or college housing.

My Seventh Grade School Year So Far
Hey there! I'm a 7th grader and I want to tell you all about
my school year so far. It's been a wild ride with lots of new things
to learn and experience. Buckle up, because this is going to be a
long story!
Unit 1 was all about introducing ourselves and talking about
our summers. I spent mine playing video games, riding my bike,
and hanging out with friends. We had to write paragraphs
describing our favorite summer activities. I wrote about the new
skatepark that opened up and how I spent hours there practicing
tricks. My English teacher said I did a great job with descriptive

Then in Unit 2, we learned how to talk about our daily
routines. Man, my routine is packed! I wake up at 6:30 am, do my
