三、阅读理解

A Seattle Food Tradition

During the late 1850s, a steamer brought “China” Mary Tong out west

from San Francisco. She sold her lunches to the workers digging the streets

near her tiny hotel, the Canton House. Her lunches became known as tiffin

meals and she soon began making large quantities of rice in her coal-burning wok. The rice was sold in wooden pails for 25 cents each. Today she is

remembered as the first street vendor (小贩) in Seattle’s history.

The Truck Day Committee was formed in 1994 as an outgrowth of the

Mercer Island Summer Celebration to bring together members of the Town

Center community in a fun and entertaining setting. Because businesses

throughout the city donate prizes, we’re able to hold a free mid-day event in

late August. The excitement of the day begins as children board the Island’s

提示:

1. 你的好朋友——Tom最近做了一个关于理想职业的调查问卷;

2. Tom 对数据作出了统计,发现白领职业是最受欢迎的,而梦想作家职业则是最少的;

3. 请谈一谈你对 Tom 调查结果的看法,并表达对 Tom 未来的祝离。

Your Friend’s Dream

Recently, my good friend Tom conducted a survey about ideal

professions. He analyzed the data and found that white-collar jobs are the

most popular, while the dream writer career is the least favored.

In my opinion, the popularity of white-collar jobs may be due to factors

such as stability, income, and social status. People are often attracted to

professions that provide a sense of security and financial stability. However,

pursuing a dream as a writer may require more creativity, passion, and

dedication, which not everyone possesses.

I admire Tom's initiative in conducting the survey and his interest in

understanding people's career preferences. I believe that with his curiosity and determination, Tom will achieve success in his own chosen path,

whether it be a white-collar job or something more unconventional like a

dream writer.

In conclusion, it is important for individuals to pursue careers that align

with their interests and passions. Tom's survey results serve as a reflection of

society's values and aspirations, and I wish him the best of luck in his future
