Lesson 16: Nature

【Background Information】

This lesson is designed for the fourth-grade students who are studying

English using the People's Education Edition. It focuses on the theme of

"Nature." Through this lesson, students will learn about different aspects of

nature, such as plants, animals, and the environment. The teaching plan aims

to enhance students' vocabulary, listening, speaking, reading, and writing

skills in English.

【Learning Objectives】

1. To introduce vocabulary related to nature, such as animals, plants, and

natural features.

2. To develop listening skills by listening to and understanding

descriptions of different animals and plants.

3. To improve speaking skills by asking and answering questions about

nature.

4. To enhance reading comprehension by reading short passages about

nature.

5. To practice writing skills by describing their favorite animal or plant.

【Warm-up Activity】 The teacher will start the lesson by showing pictures of various animals

and plants on the board. Students will be encouraged to identify the names

of the animals and plants shown in the pictures. This activity aims to activate

students' prior knowledge and generate interest in the topic of nature.

【Vocabulary Introduction】

The teacher will introduce new vocabulary words related to nature.

These words may include "flower," "tree," "butterfly," "bird," "river,"

"mountain," etc. The teacher will provide visual aids, such as flashcards or

real objects, to help students understand and remember the new words.

Students will be asked to repeat the words, spell them, and match the words

to the corresponding pictures. This activity aims to expand students'

vocabulary and improve their pronunciation skills.

【Listening Comprehension】

The teacher will play an audio recording of a native English speaker

describing different animals and plants. Students will listen carefully and try

to identify the animals and plants being described. Afterward, the teacher

will ask questions to assess students' comprehension of the listening passage.

This activity aims to enhance students' listening skills and their ability to

understand spoken English.

【Speaking Activity】

In pairs or small groups, students will take turns asking and answering

questions about nature using the vocabulary words introduced earlier. The

teacher will provide prompt questions such as "What is your favorite

animal?" or "Where do birds live?" Students will practice using the correct vocabulary and sentence structure to express their ideas and preferences.

This activity aims to promote students' oral communication skills and

encourage them to use newly acquired vocabulary words in context.

【Reading Comprehension】

Students will be given short passages about different natural features,

such as forests, lakes, or deserts. They will read the passages silently and

then answer comprehension questions based on the text. The teacher will

provide guidance and clarification as needed. This activity aims to improve

students' reading comprehension skills and deepen their understanding of

nature.

【Writing Activity】

Students will be asked to choose their favorite animal or plant and write

a short description about it. The teacher will guide students in using

appropriate sentence structures, grammar, and vocabulary to describe their

chosen topic. Afterward, students will share their writing with the class or in

small groups. This activity aims to develop students' writing skills and

encourage self-expression in English.

【Conclusion】

In this lesson, students have explored various aspects of nature,

including animals, plants, and natural features. They have enhanced their

vocabulary, listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills through different

activities. By the end of the lesson, students should have a deeper

appreciation for the beauty of nature and a better understanding of how to

communicate about it in English.
