To truly understand, we must learn their culture as well. In this course, students learn about the characteristics and culture of six of the major English-speaking countries of the world: United States, Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.This is an online course.II、Course GoalsStudents in this course will learn about the society and culture of the six major English speaking countries of the world. Learning about English countries and their culture solidifies and reinforces the student’s learning of the English language. Learning about these cultures will motivate the student to want to visit one or more of these countries to experience these cultures in person. By learning (and visiting if possible,) the student will broaden their- 1 -horizons, expand their views, absorb new information and perspectives from people of different backgrounds and experiences and learn to appreciate and respect different ways of living. Students will also understand their own culture better as they contrast and compare it with that of a foreign country.The course will also encourage students to be proactive in the classroom setting, to participate in classroom discussions, share their own ideas and respect the ideas of others. Because the class is taught in English the students will sharpen their English listening, speaking and writing abilities. This class is being taught online on the platform. It is important that students that take this course have access to a reliable internet source.III、Learning RequirementsThe course material will follow chapters of the book outlined in the schedule below and other related topics determined by the students during the semester. Learning will consist of information from the instructor’s lectures, student presentations, classroom discussion, guest lecturers, if possible, and virtual field trips to places of historical interest in the Utah area where applicable. For those classes where there is a discussion of a chapter in the textbook, it is expected that students will read the assigned chapter prior to each class period so they can be prepared to ask meaningful questions and participate in the classroom discussion. Participation in this manner constitutes ten percent of the student’s grade. Homework will be assigned to reinforce what was learned in class and pop quizzes will be held periodically to assure that students are paying attention. A mid-term exam will not be given. A paper will be required as the final exam method and will constitute 40% of the student’s grade. Topics for the paper will be determined by the student and the instructor and must relate to the material learned in the course.- 1 -IV. Others（二）Assessment System：Notes:10% Class Participation –one point given per class period to each student who asks a question or participates in a classroom discussion.10% Student presentation on assigned chapters to aid in student learning and classroom discussion.10% Homework – to reinforce what was learned in class30% Pop Quizzes – 10, 3-question quizzes given at random times during the semester to assure that students are paying attention to student presentations and the instructor. 30 points possible.- 1 -40% Final Examination –2-3 page essay. It consists of England, Scotlaand, Wales and Northern Ireland. London is the capital of Britain.And the population of UK is 60,441,457. English, welsh and Gaelic is UK’s offical language.Britain is the first country to undergoing the industrial revolution.Now,Britain is a country has a big impat such as world powers in political, economic, military, scientific, technological and cultural areas.Britain is one of the country which is richest and most econnmically advanced.The courage and courtesy, as " gentleman Road " form the core and essence of the spirit of Britain. White and red flag of England is Cross on behalf of England's patron saint St George's, White Cross of the cross on behalf of the patron saint ST Andrew of Scotland, the Red Cross guard the Holy Cross, the representative of Ireland, Patrick British flag, commonly known as " M - word flags ", officially called " the Union Flag ", and are often called " the Union Jack ".Jack is a naval term, refers to the flag flying in the bow.
