2. able adj. 有能力的
be able to do sth.
◆(经过努力)而能做… manage to do sth.

(1) be able to 与can的意思相近,均可表“有能力的”
◆ He is able to / can drive.
He was able to / could run very fast.
(2) be able to 可以有多种时态变化,且能与某些情态动词(can除外)连用;can不可以。
◆ He has not been able to go to school for a week.
You might be able to persuade(说服)him.
