Title: Unit 1: Greetings and Introductions

Grade: Grade 7, First Semester

Objective:

1. Introduce basic greetings and introductions in English

2. Practice using greetings and introductions in different contexts

3. Develop listening and speaking skills

Materials:

1. Textbook: English for Middle School Students, Grade 7

2. Flashcards with greetings and introductions

3. Audio recordings of greetings and introductions

Warm-up (5 minutes):

- Greet students as they enter the classroom and encourage them to respond with

the appropriate greetings.

- Engage students in a quick discussion about greetings and introductions in their

own language. Ask them to share common phrases they use and explain the

meaning behind them.

Introduction (10 minutes):

- Show flashcards with different greetings and introductions. Ask students to identify

and repeat the phrases after you.

- Use flashcards to introduce the concept of formal and informal greetings and

introductions. Explain when each form is appropriate to use.

- Play an audio recording of greetings and introductions and ask students to listen

and repeat after the recording.

Presentation (15 minutes): - Divide students into pairs and distribute role-play cards. Each card will have a

situation where students need to use greetings and introductions, for example,

meeting a new classmate.

- Give students a few minutes to read their role-play cards and prepare their

conversations.

- Monitor students as they practice and provide feedback and assistance as needed.

Practice and Application (20 minutes):

- Create two circles with half the class standing in an inner circle and the other half

standing in an outer circle, facing each other.

- Students in the inner circle will simulate a crowded party or event, while students in

the outer circle will practice introducing themselves to a new person they meet.

- After a set amount of time, have students switch places so everyone has a chance

to practice both roles.

Consolidation (10 minutes):

- Have a short class discussion about their experiences during the practice activity.

Ask students to share any difficulties or successes they encountered.

- Wrap up the lesson by reviewing the important phrases and their appropriate usage.

- Assign homework to reinforce the concepts learned, such as writing a short

dialogue using greetings and introductions.

Extension:

- Encourage students to practice using greetings and introductions in real-life

situations, such as when meeting new people or talking with neighbors or relatives

who speak English.

- Integrate technology by having students record themselves using greetings and

introductions and submitting the recordings for teacher evaluation.

Assessment:

- Monitor students' participation and performance during the role-play and practice

activities.

- Assess students' written dialogue for accuracy and usage of the greetings and

introductions taught in the lesson.
