In 2023, the Hubei Province College Entrance Examination English

paper will include a section on writing about Chinese culture. Students will

be asked to choose one topic out of five and write a short essay in 100-120

words.

The topics cover a wide range of Chinese culture, including traditional

festivals, famous historical figures, tea culture, Chinese calligraphy, and

Chinese cuisine. Students are encouraged to choose a topic they are

interested in and conduct research to gather more information.

To prepare for this section, students are advised to read related books

and articles, watch documentaries, and visit museums. They can also

interview experts or participate in related workshops to gain a deeper

understanding of the chosen topic.

The purpose of this section is to promote the understanding and

appreciation of Chinese culture among high school students in Hubei

Province. It aims to enrich their knowledge, enhance their writing skills, and

foster cultural pride.

The Writing about Chinese Culture section will carry 10% of the total

marks of the English paper. The essays will be evaluated based on content,

organization, language use, and writing mechanics. Students are encouraged

to express their own thoughts and feelings while showcasing their language

proficiency. By including this section, it is hoped that students will develop a deeper

connection with their cultural heritage and be inspired to explore and

Last summer, I had the opportunity to volunteer at a local animal shelter.

I have always loved animals, so I was excited to be able to work with them.

During my time at the shelter, I was responsible for feeding, walking,

and giving medication to the animals. I also helped to clean their living areas

and spent time playing with them. It was hard work, but it was also

incredibly rewarding.

I was able to meet and interact with various kinds of animals, including

dogs, cats, rabbits, and birds. Each one had their own unique personality,

and I loved getting to know them.

One particular experience that stood out to me was when I helped to find

a new home for a dog named Max. Max had been at the shelter for several

months and was having trouble finding a family. I took his photo and posted

it online, hoping to attract potential adopters. After a few days, a kind family

saw his photo and immediately fell in love with him. They visited the shelter and decided to adopt Max. It was a heartwarming moment that made my

time at the shelter even more worthwhile.

Volunteering at the shelter not only allowed me to make a difference in

the lives of animals, but it also taught me the importance of compassion and

responsibility. It made me appreciate the unconditional love that animals can

provide, and I am grateful for the experience.
