Unit 4 How do you get to school?

Hello, everyone. My name is Shen Xiuping, from Fushun No. 2 Middle School.

Today I am great honored and lucky to be here. First let’s share a piece of news.

A minibus crashed into a truck in a rural western China in Nov. 16th, 2011,

crashing twenty-one people , including 19 preschoolers and two adults to death,

and 43 others to injury. School bus safety made its way into the spotlight. So I

choose How Do You Get to School?, from Unit 4 Book 3 of Go For It as my topic

to talk about means of transportation. My lesson is the first period. As you know,

A good beginning is half done. So if the students learn it well, it will be helpful

for them to learn the rest of the unit. Now I’ll prepare to talk about my lesson

from three parts. Part 1, Analysis of the teaching material; Part 2, Analysis of the

teaching and learning methods; Part 3, Teaching procedures.

Part One Analysis of the Teaching Material

一. Status and Function

This is an important lesson in this book. Students will learn means of

transportation. Such a topic is related to our daily life. It can be helpful to raise

students’ interest in learning English and it will improve their society sense.

Also, it can develop students’ four skills of listening, speaking, reading and

writing. Therefore, it is in an important position of the teaching material.

二. Teaching Aims and Demands

1. Knowledge objects

1) To enable the students to remember the following words and

phrases:

take the subway , by subway and so on.

2) To get the students to be familiar with the sentence pattern.

2. Ability objects

1) To develop the students’ basic abilities of listening, speaking,

reading and writing.

2) To develop the students’ ability of communication by learning

the useful structures and pair work.

3) To train the students’ ability of thinking independently.

3. Moral objects

1) To enable the students to work with others and help each other.

2) To protect the environment and join in the low-carbon life.

3) To obey the traffic rules and cherish our lives. 三.Teaching key and difficult points

1. Key Points:

Means of transportation: take the bus, by bus on a bus and so on

Sentences: How do/ does you/ he get to school?

2. Difficulties:

1) Three ways of describing means of transportation;

2) The first person to the third person of the present tense.

Part Two Analysis of the students

Students of Grade Eight have learned English for more than four years.

They have a good foundation in words and sentences. They have mastered some

skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Most students are active and

lively. So, this topic can greatly attract their interest. It can accelerate them to

learn English and communicate well.

Part Three Teaching and Learning Methods

一. Teaching Aids

Multi-media computer, tape recorder, PowerPoint and so on.

The New teaching syllabus says that it’s necessary for teachers to use

modern teaching facilities. It’s of great help to increase the class density and

improve the teaching result. It can also make the students reach a better

understanding of the lesson by making the class lively and interesting. At the

same time, it arouses the students’ interest in learning English.

二. Analysis of the teaching methods.

Communication approach and computer-assistant instruction are to be

used here. I think the students are the real masters, while the teacher acts as a

guider and cooperator. I’ll use these three teaching methods:

Communicative teaching method;

Task-based teaching method

Audio- visual teaching method

To use these methods is helpful to develop the students’ thought. As we
