Sample answer:Many cities and towns built a few hundred years ago have become obsolete now, no matter how brilliant they used to be, for they are no longer suitable for life today. In my view, these cities and towns may cause three kinds of problems. At the basic level, they can no longer provide satisfactory conditions for our modern existence. A bit more than 100 years ago, people did not use buses or cars, so the city did not have broad streets; people did not travel by train or airplane, so the city was not equipped with any railway station or airport; most people shopped in the stores near their homes, so the city did not haveto have shopping malls or supermarkets. As more and more people rush into urban areas, the city has expanded with the population, and modern urban people would find themselves unable to survive without the broad streets, the train, the airplane and the supermarket. Meanwhile, cities and towns built centuries ago do not have enough entertainment and sports facilities available to contemporary city dwellers who, relieved of the manual labor by the technological advances, suddenly find they have a great amount of free time. For example, these cities and towns are not likely to have 3-D or IMAX movie theaters for movie fans, or huge stadiums for sports fans. Consequently, people may find their life in such cities and towns are most boring and tedious. Finally, the cities and towns constructed long time ago cannot possibly have anticipated the negative effects of environmental issues brought over by our modern life, so they usually have residence area, industrial area and business area all mixed up without separating them. This is, of course, unbearable to our urban life style today. While the century-aged cities and towns may carry much cultural and historical value, they must be re-constructed in the interest of people living in them today. The city infrastructure must be reshaped and include such facilities as shopping centers, sports stadiums, wide streets and pavements and provide services like metro, train, and airplane. And to minimize the unfavorable effects of modern life on urban populace, the cities and towns should be set the areas apart by their respective functions.。
例如: no investment in rural areas->poverty->go to city to findjob opportunities->the increase of population in cities->demand for transportation->more vehicles->more e某hausts->more airpollution->more diseases related to air pollution->death rate increase->lift e某pectancy decrease. 下面举些个词和词汇表示cause&effectcause, create, affect, impact, influence, result in, lead to. contribute to. be attributed to. because, because of, due to, therefore, consequently. hence. As mass production is the core principle of industrial economy, mass destruction becomes the core principle of this age. Warfare, as the result of violence pushed to its utmost abounds, has been posing a great threat to all the nations for a long history.First, although most of ta某 money goes into the national defense budget, an ounce of prevention is worth of a pound of cure. After the first-ever atom bomb dropped on the Japanese city on August 6,1945, more than 140,000 people were killed in the atomic blast and tens of thousands of others died from the after effects of radiation. Since then, the technique of battle systems has already gone through several generations. On the other hand, despite the generally peaceful world, local wars and racial segregations never been disconnected. At the same time, business and governments constantly jockey for advantage over each other, sometimes relying on less-than-legal measures includingwarfare.Furthermore, the computer terrorist can inflict damage onmillions of people with a single keystroke, sowing fear, suspicion, and doubt. If the terrorisms in "9.11"used the atom bomb instead of aircraft, New York would had been destroyed to empty land. That isthe reason why American never gave up his research in military might. Of course, arguments will be raised against my standpoint. Some people criticize it on the grounds that these problems can beresolved through diplomacy and dialogue. However, in my opinion, the unavoidable Information Warfare will be waged because it can be. History clearly shows that any new technology, regardless of its original intentions, soon finds its way into the warriors. In conclusion, we, no matter individuals or governments, must preparefor the future we are creating. In a world today of immense technology, increasing population and flourishing economic , investigations have shown that the global economy was outgrowing the earth’s ecosystems. The whole industrial process which makes many of the goods and machines we need and use in daily lives, is bound to create a number of waste products whichupset the environmental balance. As mass production is the core principle of industrial economy, mass consumption and mass abandonment become the core principle in industrial age. Many of these waste products can be prevented or disposed of sensibly, but clearly while more and more new goods are produced and made more comple某, there will be new wastes to be disposed of. The rise of wastes has led to an unparalleled debate between environmental protection and economic development. However, they often ignore that the real victim of pollutions isnot the citizen, because the rubbishes usually be gathered together and moved to an area far from the cities. As a result, in these areas the usable fields will be destructed, the air will be polluted, wild life, including both plants and animals will be put at risk, moreover, many inhabitants will be weaken on account of the waste despoil with poisonous materials from industrial companies.Whatever its underlying effects, there is no doubt that much of the pollution could be controlled if only companies, individuals and governments would make more effort.Globally, we can replace the automobile-based, fossil-fuel-centered, throwaway structure with a renewable-energy-based economy that reuses and recycles materials and has a stable population. Individuals, on the other hand, can help to solve by cutting out unnecessary buying,e某cess consumption and careless disposal of the products are use in our daily lives. Telling lie is usually looked upon as an evil, because some people try to get benefit from dishonest means or try to concealtheir faults. On the other hand, honesty is widely recognized as the best policy.Parents always try to prove the benefits of being honest when you are a little child. A good story in this regard is .One day the child Washington chop down his farther’ s favorite cherry tree; although knowing he would deserve to be punished, he told his father the truth. Une某pected, his farther apprised him rather than e某ecuting a punishment; moreover, he was encouraged to maintain the good manner all the time. As known to all, the honest boy eventually became one of the greatest presidents in American history. However, telling lie, despite its negative effects, sometimes is essential in our daily life. First, the liar itself will benefit from the lie by escaping from the pressure of unnecessary embarrassment. On the other hand, the listener will feel more comfortable by reasonable e某cuses. For e某ample, if a little girl’s farther died in an accident, her mother would comfort her by saying" farther has gone to another beautiful land". In such cases, a lie with original goodwill is like a naught angel who might make the cruel nice. Furthermore, To some e某tent, the skills of telling lie can be regard as a capacity of creation and imagination.Taking all those factors into consideration, we can definitely come to the conclusion that whether telling lie is harmful depends on its original intention and the ultimate result it will bring. If one is honest with oneself, one always learns from mistakes, can correct a concept or a hypothesis and work further, and reach the goal finally. Without any discussing, the key to happiness, in my opinion, is a harmonious relationship with the people in our lives. It is the people in our lives who bring us the most happiness. Family, friends and co-workers, who are part of our inner circle, share our e某periences, hopes and dreams, successes and frustrations, joys and pains. Too often, many of us get on the fast track of life and take each other for granted. As a new millennium approach, more people disregard their passion and interests and choose careers based on job security, pay and professional promotion. As a result, they find themselves isolated and without friends. Loneliness is a common tragedy that destroys lives.Actually we were old enough to remember the old saying "Money doesn’t buy happiness", yet we strive for the material objects and pay a high price. The essence of happiness is the unconditionally love we have for the people in our lives and their unconditionally love for us. To live life only for ourselves will bring us nothing but sadness and misery.A self-centered life is an unhappy life. Selfishness is a major block to happiness. Our feelings of insecurity and low self-esteem cause us to be takers rather than givers. Our selfishness is often a mask for fear. If we don’t think too much about ourselves, we have a lot of work to do in order to enhance our self-worth. We must livefor something greater than ourselves. To be happy, we must get out of ourselves. An unhappy person must turn outward, not inward, to find happiness.I truly believe that the happiest people are those who love many things. They love children, family and friends. They love sunrises and sunsets. They love life. They have even learned to love pain and despair rather than viewing them the opposite of happiness.。
Task:Crimes committed by young people are increasing in major cities throughout the world. Discuss the causes and how to solve this problem?
Nowadays, it has been reported that there has been an increasing number of crimes committed by youngsters in major cities all over the world. What causes this phenomenon and what people could do to resolve the problem have been widely discussed. In this essay, I would investigate the reasons and suggest some possible solutions accordingly. There are two main reasons why this kind of crimes is on the increase. Firstly, violence on the internet, TV programs and video games is responsible for this situation. It is because youngsters, unlike adults, are lack of abilities to distinguish right from wrong. Therefore, too much violence in the virtual world could render young people aggressive. As a result, they, more often than not, consider violence as the main or even only way to solve problems, thereby leading to crimes. Secondly, low employment rate in many big cities around the world could be another major reason. Most countries are experiencing economic plateau or even backwards due to global economic crisis occurring a few years ago. Consequently, many businesses and factories have decided to cut off their staff or ten d to employ experienced workers over young graduates. This means some youngsters become jobless spontaneously once they graduate. Some of them even turn to commit crimes to make a living or get revenge on society. In order to solve the problem, some main methods are advised accordingly. The first solution is to apply censorship and classification in issuingprograms. This means governments or non-governmental organizations should censor the violent and prostitute contents of programs and label them such as "adult only" or "viewers excluded below 14" before programs are publicized. This would help to keep youngsters from too much violence on programs away. Another method is to carry out free job training programs designed closely related to the demand of the job market. After training, youngsters, more of ten than not, can expect better chances of being employed. Other ways could include tax-reduction policy for university graduates self-employment, providing paid social service positions for youngsters, etc.To conclude, methods such as censorship on programs and free job training for youngsters are strongly recommended too much violence on programs and low employment.(370 words)In some countries, a high proportion of criminal acts are committed by teenagers. Why has this happened? What can be done to deal with this?

1. Some people say the government should not put money in the arts, such as music, opera and paintings, but instead should spend more money on basic facility. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
2. Some people said the government should not put money on building theatres and sports stadiums, and they should spend more money on medical care and education. Do you agree or disagree?
3. Some people say that the government should pay for the health and education of its citizens, but other people say that it is not the government’s responsibility. What is your opinion?
Some people think that media should not report detail of crimes to the public. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
What are the responsibilities and limits of the media for reporting the truth of social crimes? This question arouses a big controversy in society. Some people suggest reports of crime details should be forbidden. Personally, I fundamentally agree with this assertion, and my reasons will be presented as below. The primary reason of approving of this argument is that disclosing crimes details would place a whole society in risks. Surely, when reporting crime details, there are knowledge and skills necessary for committing crimes. In other words, by watching such reports, these would-be criminals, especially the young ones, can be taught how to plan and carry out illegal activities. For example, if the details about cyber crimes are publicized, then the young audience will know the technology of hacking, as well as the flaws of fire walls of computers. As a result, many of them would breed an idea of imitating this process of offence in a real world by themselves, and a higher rate of such crimes would be expected in the future. Besides, to some extent, reporting crime details is improper, because it contains some sensitive private information. For example, in cases of rape, names and pictures of female victims must not be published in newspaper or TV news cycle. Otherwise, the basic rights of human privacy would be challenged and disrespected ruthlessly, and these victims would be hurt again by the media.Lastly, I have to concede that detail reporting is reasonable on certain level. For one thing, the revealing of crime details are good lessons which provide useful anti-crime knowledge and experience to the public. For example, after watching and understanding the whole process of how an offender commits a crime, the viewers can realize by what ways and strategies they can defend themselves well, or prevent these unwanted situations.。
剑3 2-1The chart below shows the amount spent on six consumer goods in four European countries.Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information shown below. The chart shows that Britain, among the four European countries, has spent most heavily on the range of consumer goods included. In every case, British spending is considerably higher than that of other countries, only in the case of tennis racquets does another country, Italy, come close. In contrast, Germany is generally the lowest spender. This is most evident in photographic film, where Germany spends much less than Britain. Germany only spends more than another country, France, in two cases: tennis racquets and perfume.Meanwhile, France and Italy generally maintain middle positions, averaging approximately similar spending overall. Specifically, France spends more on CDs and photographic film but less on tennis racquets than Italy does. Italy’s spending on personal stereos is only marginally than that of France, while spending on toys is equal between the two.It is clear from the data give that there are some significant differences in spending habits within Europe.剑3 2-2When a country develop its technology, the traditional skills and ways of life die out. It is pointless to try and keep them alive. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?Overall, I disagree with the opinion expressed. I would like to begin by pointing out that traditional skills and ways of life are not automatically of one country, but of a culture or community..In many ways, the history of civilisation is the history of technology:from the discovery of fire to the invention of the wheel to the development of the Internet, we have been moving on from previous ways of doing things. Some technologies, such as weapons of mass destruction, are of negative impact. Others, such as medical advances, positively help people to live better or longer, and so very much help traditional way of life. Surely, few people wouldseek to preserve such traditions as living in caves!Interestingly, technology can positively contribute to the keeping alive of traditional skills and ways of life. For example, the populations of some islands are too small to have normal schools. Rather than breaking up families by sending children to the mainland, education authorities have been able to use the Internet to deliver schooling online. In addition, the Internet, and modern refrigeration techniques, are being used to keep alive the traditional skills of producing salmon; it can now be ordered from, and delivered to, anywhere in the world. In conclusion, without suggesting that all technology is necessarily good, I think it is by no means ‘pointless’, In any way , to keep traditions alive with technology. We should not ignore technology, because it can be our friend and support our way of life.剑3 3-1The charts below show the levels of participation in education and science in developing and industrialised countries in 1980 and 1990. Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information shown below. The data shows the differences between developing and industrialised countries participation in education and science. In terms of the number of years of schooling received, we see that length oftime people spend at school at school in industrialised countries was much greater at 8.5 years in 1980, compared to 2.5 years in developing countries. The gap was increased further in 1990 when the figures rose to 10.5 years and 3.5 years respectively. We can see a similar pattern in the second graph, which shows that the number of people working as scientists and technicians in industriallsed countries increased from 55 to 85 per1000 people between 1980 and 1990, while the number in developing countries went from 12 to 20.Finally, the figures for spending on research and development show that industrialised countries more than doubled their spending, from $200bn to $400bn, whereas developing countries actually decreased theirs, from $75bn down to $25bn.Overall we can see that not only are there very large differences between the two economies but that these gaps are widening.剑3 3-2In many countries children are engaged is some kind of paid work. Some people regard this as completely wrong, while others consider it as valuable work experience, important for learning and taking responsibility. The issue of children doing paid work is a complex and sensitive one. It is difficult to say who has the right to judge whether children working is ‘wrong’ or ‘valuable’. Opinions will also differ as to ‘learning’ benefits: no doubt teachers and factory owners, for example, would have varying concerns. An important consideration is the kind of work undertaken. Young childrendoing arduous and repetitive tasks on a factory production line, for example, are less likely to be ‘learning’ than older children helping in an old people’s home. There are health and safety issues to be considered as well. It is an unfortunate fact that many employers may prefer to use the services of children simply to save money by paying them less than adults and it is this type of exploitation that should be discouraged. However, in many countries children work because their families need the additional income, no matter how small. This was certainly they case in the past in many industrialized countries, and it is very difficult to judge that it is wrong for children today to contribute to the family income in this way.Nevertheless, in better economic circumstances, few parents would choose to send their children out to full-time paid work. If learning responsibilities and work experience are considered to be important, then children can acquire these by having light, part-time jobs or even doing tasks such as helping their parents around the family home, which are unpaid, but undoubtedly of value in children’s development.。
Individuals can do nothing to improve the environment; only governments and large companies can make a difference. To whatdo you agree or disagree?Nowadays, an increasing number of people are concerned about environmental protection and regard it as one of the most important challenges. However, whether only governments and big firms have resources and powers to preserve our environment is a controversial issue. My view is that every single citizen could also make a huge difference. In the first place, it is clear that it is human activities that have the greatest impact throughout the history. Both environment contamination and conservation are the long-term process, and no single government or big company can meet this challenge alone. So whoever created the problem should be responsible for solving it; environment protection needs every one of us to continuously participate in.Moreover, the public’s wills and behaviors have critical influence on government’s policies and companies’strategies. For example, if everyone says “no” to plastic shopping bags and paper cups, the companies that manufacture such products will switch to environmental-friendly substitutes in order to survive in the market. However, that is not to say that governments and large companies cannot positively contribute. Indeed, governments can enact laws and introduce programs to raise the public’s low-carbon awareness; companies can promote green products to change the public’s consuming habits. But they also need every citizen’s appreciation and support to bring good results. In sum, no effort is too small when we are protecting the environment. Meanwhile, local authorities and organizations must shoulder their responsibility to develop low-carbon economy at the macro level. Only by doing so can we assure that we could hand this beautiful planet to our next generation and the next generation after.TASK 2: 高分范文二-----ArgumentationThe Internet has dramatically altered our lives over the past few decades. Although some of these changes have been negative, the overall effect of this technology has been positive. What are your opinions on this? The Internet has brought significant changes to our lives in recent years. However, there remains some disagreement as to whether the overall effect of this technology has been positive or negative. While there are certainly valid arguments to the contrary, I personally believe that the benefits of the Internet far outweigh its drawbacks and these benefits are twofold.First of all, it is an indisputable fact that the Internet has revolutionized the way we communicate. Despite the risk of social isolation-a problem occasionally seen in people who spend too much time at their computer terminal rather than relating to people in the real world-most of us have benefited greatly from e-mails and Internet chat programs like MSN Messenger. These incredibly useful and powerful tools of communication facilitate both contact with loved ones in faraway places and global trade. Moreover, the Internet has placed the entire world (and all of the information in it) at our fingertips. In earlier times, conducting research entailed long hours searching library shelves. Now, however, the same information can be accessed at the click of a button. Admittedly, not all of the information available on the Internet is reliable or helpful-there is a vast amount of material online that some would consider offensive or dangerous, ranging from pornography to instructions on how to make bombs. Nonetheless, I would contend that this free flow of information has generally been a very positive development.By way of conclusion, I once again reaffirm my position that the Internet has had a positive impact on modern life because of its influences on communication and the flow of information.TASK 2: 高分范文三-----ReportWith divorce rates and family breakdowns increasing globally, it is generally accepted that families today are not close as they used to be.Discuss the causes of this problem and offer some possible solutions to it.Divorce and family breakdown were virtually unheard of just 100 years ago. Now, however, almost half of all marriages fail. This phenomenon is symptomatic of the growing distance between family members in modern society. In this essay, I intend to explore the sources of this problem along with some possible solutions to it.Chief among the causes of this problem is the modern lifestyle. Today’s parents have to work harder than those of previous generations to support their families. Traditionally, one parent assumed the role of breadwinner, while the other-typically the mother-acted as the homemaker. Recently, though, double income families have become the norm. Consequently, an increasing number of children now grow up in a parentless environment. Little wonder, then, that they feel alienated. Another contributing factor is the passive and solitary nature of many modern forms of entertainment. In order to solve this sense of alienation within families, I believe we must first address its root causes. Perhaps the most effective method of doing this would be for governments to offer financial incentives to parents who choose to remain at home and take care of their families. Admittedly, such incentives would probably not fully compensate couples for lost income; however, they would at least soften the hardship of living on a single income and provide an alternative for parents who would rather remain at home but are unable to do so because of financial constraints. One further measure would be to promote more interactive leisure activities in the community through public education campaigns. In conclusion, I believe that this is clearly a problem of such complexity that no solution is likely in the short term. However, I believe that the measures outlined above would constitute a good first step.Successful sports professionals can earn a great deal more money than people in other important professions. Some people think this is fully justified while other think it is unfair. Discuss both these views and give your opinion. As a result of constant media attention, sports professionals in my country have become stars and celebrities, and those at the top are paid huge salaries. Just like movie stars, they live extravagant lifestyles with huge houses and cars. Many people find their rewards unfair, especially when comparing these super salaries with those of top surgeons or research scientists, or even leading politicians who have the responsibility of governing the country. However, sports salaries are not determined by considering the contribution to society a person makes, or the level of responsibility he or she holds. Instead, they reflect the public popularity of sport in general and the level of public support that successful stars can generate. So the notion of “fairness” is not the issue. While those who feel that sports stars’ salaries are justified might argue that the number of professionals with real talent are very few, and the money is a recognition of the skills and dedication a person needs to be successful. Competition is constant and a player is tested every time they perform in their relatively short career. The pressure from the media is intense and there is little privacy out of the spotlight. So all of these factors may justify the huge earnings.Personally, I think that the amount of money such sports stars make is more justified than the huge earnings of movie stars, but at the same time, it indicates that our society places more value on sport than on more essential professionals and achievements. In many countries, the proportion of older people is steadily increasing. Does this trend have more positive or negative effects on society? In more and more developed countries we see the following trends: incomes rise, people get married later and have fewer kids. The result is the demographics change and the population ages. While having more old people sounds like a good thing (as they tend to be kind and warm-hearted), it can have a serious impact on economies and societies.Co nsider, for example, that in order for a country’s GDP to grow it needs to produce more goods and services each year. With an aging population and more people retiring, fewer are left to work, creating an economic hole. The result is that such countries have to rely on immigration to fill the gap and this is a less-than-desirable solution.Consider also, that as more people reach their twilight years they will face increasing health problems and this puts huge pressure on health care and other social programs. In most countries the government pays for at least some of the costs of health care, not to mention things like pensions, all of which means a big bill someone has to pay for.To be fair, however, we should be careful not to direct our anger towards old people themselves. Old people can still make contributions to society, whether it means helping look after grandchildren, working part time or even doing voluntary work. On an individual level, old people can be a real treasure. To sum up, governments should recognize the challenges of an aging society and take the appropriate action. But in addition to fixing the short-term impact of an older society, they should also look at the bigger picture and do their best so that in the future we have a better age balance.。
雅思大作文report题目## The Shifting Landscape of Work: Remote Work's Rise and Its Implications The past few years have witnessed a seismic shift in the way we work. Remote work, once a niche concept, has exploded into a mainstream phenomenon, irrevocably altering the landscape of employment. This report delves into the driving forces behind this trend, exploring its multifaceted impact on individuals, businesses, and society at large. The surge in remote work is propelled by a confluence of technological advancements and evolving societal values. The proliferation ofhigh-speed internet, collaborative software, and cloud-based platforms has effectively dissolved geographical barriers, enabling seamless communication and collaboration regardless of location. Simultaneously, a growing emphasis on work-life balance and employee well-being has fueled the demand for flexible work arrangements. Individuals are increasingly seeking autonomy over their schedules and work environments, prioritizing personal fulfillment alongside professional obligations. For individuals, the benefits of remote work are manifold. The elimination of commuting translates to significant time and cost savings, affording greater flexibility and control over one's day. This can lead to improved work-life balance, allowing individuals to better manage personal commitments and family responsibilities. Additionally, remote work empowers individuals to curate their ideal work environment, fostering increased productivity and job satisfaction. However, the isolation associated with remote work can also pose challenges. The lack of face-to-face interaction can lead to feelings of loneliness and disconnect, hindering team cohesion and collaboration. Moreover, the blurring of boundaries between work and personal life can result in burnout and difficulty switching off. Businesses, too, stand to benefit from embracing remote work. The ability to tap into a global talent pool expands recruitment possibilities, enabling companies to secure specialized skills that may not be readily available locally. Additionally, remote work often translates to reduced overhead costs associated with office space and infrastructure. Furthermore, studies have shown that remote employees tend to be more productive and engaged, leading to improved business outcomes. However, managing a remote workforce also presents unique challenges. Maintaining company culture andfostering a sense of community can be difficult in a virtual setting. Additionally, ensuring data security and protecting confidential information requires robust cybersecurity protocols. The rise of remote work has significant implications for society as a whole. The decline of traditional office spaces could reshape urban landscapes, potentially revitalizing suburban areas and smaller towns asindividuals relocate for affordability and lifestyle preferences. Additionally, the flexibility offered by remote work can empower marginalized groups, such as individuals with disabilities or those living in remote locations, to participate more fully in the workforce. However, concerns regarding the potential for increased social isolation and the exacerbation of existing inequalities must be addressed. Ensuring access to reliable technology and fostering digital literacy are crucial steps towards creating an equitable remote work ecosystem. In conclusion, the rise of remote work represents a transformative shift in thenature of work. While it presents both opportunities and challenges for individuals, businesses, and society, its impact is undeniable. As we navigatethis evolving landscape, it is crucial to proactively address potential pitfalls and harness the power of remote work to create a more inclusive, flexible, and fulfilling future of work.。

The high demand of consumer goods has led to thedepletion of natural resources as well as environmental degradation. How to reverse this situation should be paid more attention and both the government and individuals should take responsibility for this. The past decades have witnessed the expansion of human population, which results in the ever-growing requirement for various products such as food, clothing. Not only does this cause the decrease of natural resources, but also contributes to environmental deterioration. An example of this is that people cut down more trees for disposable chopsticks and furniture, leading to deforestation in many areas. This further causes some problems like soil erosion, droughts and change in temperature.Another reason is that people lack environmental awareness. Otherwise, they would not live a throw-away life and cause some avoidable waste or pollution. A large number of people have not yet realized the importance of recycling, nor are they conscious of the households appliances can end up in landfill sites and these non-biodegradable products can have a destructive effect on the environment. To cope with this problem, governments should firstly try to raise public’s awareness for environmental protectionand recycling. Besides, they should also invest heavily in some renewable energy resources such as nuclear, solar or wind energy. Meanwhile, citizens should make an effort to consume less and recycle more and classify rubbish in order to reduce the damage of waste. To sum up, the increase of world population and insufficient environmental consciousness are associated with the issue stated. And to combat with it, every member in the society should take actions.
出题形式为“what are the reasons and provide solutions”我们可以从1) Why;2) Result;3) Solution三个方面来写文章。
3) Solution? 1,3(1, 2) Nowadays, people always throw the old things away when they buy new things; whereas in the past, old things were repaired and used again. What factors cause this phenomenon? What effects the phenomenon leads to?(1, 3) Many species of plants and animals are dying out. What are the causes of this trend? How can we prevent it?
The chart below gives information about global sales of games software, CDs and DVD or video.Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information.∙You should write at least 150 words.∙You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.model answer:The chart shows the changes in the sales of video material / DVDs, games software and CDs around the world in billions of dollars over a three-year period. It can be seen that the sales of videos / DVDs and games software have increased, while the sales of CDs have gone down slightly.Between 2000 and 2003, the sale of videos and DVDs rose by approximately 13 billion dollars. In 2000, just under 20 billion dollars worth of these items were sold, but in 2003, this figure had risen to a little over 30 billion dollars. The sales of games software also rose during this period, but less sharply. Sales increased from about 13 billion dollars in 2000 to just under 20 billion dollars three years later. By contrast, during the same time period, the sale of CDs fell from 35 billion dollars in 2000 to about 32.5 billion dollars in 2003.Eating sweet foods produces acid in the mouth, which can cause tooth decay. (High acid levels are measured by low pH values)Describe the information below and discuss the implications for dental health.∙You should write at least 150 words.∙Allow yourself 20 minutes for this task.model answer:Anyone who has visited a dentist has been told that eating excessive amounts of sweets risks harming the teeth. This is because sweets lower pH levels in the mouth to dangerous levels. When the pH level in the mouth is kept above 5.5, acidity is such that teeth are unlikely to be in danger of decay. Sweet foods, however, cause pH in the mouth to drop for a time, and the longer pH levels remain below 5.5, the greater the opportunity for decay to occur.By comparing fruit sugar, cane sugar and honey, which are all common ingredients of sweet foods, we find that cane sugar lowers pH levels for the longest period, thus producing the greatest risk of the three. Approximately five minutes aftfter consuming cane sugar, pH levels drop to as little as pH 3.5. They then begin to rise slowly, but do not rise above pH 5.5 until at least 30 minutes have elapsed. By contrast, fruit sugar, which causes the mouth's acidity to fall to just above pH 4, poses a danger for a shorter period: tooth decay is unlikely 20 minutes after consumption. Honey appears an even less risky substance. Though acidity falls to about pH 4.75 within five minutes of consumption, it returns to above pH 5.5 in under fifteen minutes. The implications, then, are that people who insist on eating sweet foods should be aware of the ingredients, and that fruit sugar or honey appear preferable to cane sugar.Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information in the two graphs below.∙You should write at least 150 words.∙Allow yourself 20 minutes for this task.model answer:The pie charts compare the highest level of education achieved by women inSomeland across two years, 1945 and 1995. It can be clearly seen that women received a much higher level of education in Someland in 1995 than they did in 1945.In 1945 only 30% of women completed their secondary education and 1% went on to a first degree. No women had completed post-graduate studies. This situation had changed radically by 1995. In 1995, 90% of women in Someland had completed secondary education and of those, half had graduated from an initial degree and 20% had gone on to postgraduate studies. At the other end of the scale we can see that by 1995 all girls were completing lower secondary, although 10% ended theirschooling at this point. This is in stark contrast with 1945 when only 30% of girlscompleted primary school, 35% had no schooling at all and 35% only completed the third grade. In conclusion, we can see that in the 50 years from 1945 to 1995 there have been huge positive developments to the education levels of women in Someland.Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information in the table below.∙You should write at least 150 words.∙Allow yourself 20 minutes for this task.model answer:The table shows how people in different age groups spend their leisure time in Someland over the course of a year. It can be clearly seen that the amount of leisure time available varies considerably across the age groups and that people of different age levels have very different ways of spending their leisure time.According to the figures, as people age in Someland their social lives reduce.Teenagers and people in their twenties spend on average 500 hours per year on socialising and 350 hours of that time is with a group of more than 4 people.Although the total hours of socialising in their 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s is fairlyconstant (between 300-350), socialising with more than 4 people dropsdramatically to 50 hours in the 30s and 40s age groups and only 25 from 50 years old. Group and individual exercise follow a similar pattern.People of all ages spend a good part of their leisure time on entertainment such as TV/video viewing and cinema. In both cases, teenagers and retired people spend around twice as much time as those who are at working age. Home entertainmentranges from just over a thousand hours for teenagers and retired people and an average of 600 hours for everyone else. Cinema accounts for 100 hours of the teenagers and retired people’s leisure time and 25-50 hours for the rest.In conclusion we can see there is a significant trend towards solitary and smaller group activities as people grow older and that teenagers and retired people spend a lot more time on entertainment than those of working age do.The map below is of the town of Garlsdon. A new supermarket (S) isplanned for the town. The map shows two possible sites for thesupermarket.Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.∙You should write at least 150 words.∙Allow yourself 20 minutes for this task.model answer:The first potential location (S1) is outside the town itself, and is sited just off the main road to the town of Hindon, lying 12 kms to the north-west. This site is inthe countryside and so would be able to accommodate a lot of car parking. This would make it accessable to shoppers from both Hindon and Garlsdon who could travel by car. As it is also close to the railway line linking the who towns to Cransdon (25 km to the south-east), a potentially large number of shoppers would also be able to travel by train. In contrast, the suggested location, S2, is right in the town centre, which would be good for local residents. Theorically the store could be accessed by road or rail from the surrounding towns, including Bransdon, but as the central area isa no-traffic zone, cars would be unable to park and access would be difficult.Overall, neither site is appropriate for all the towns, but for customers inCransdon, Hindon and Garlsdon, the out-of-town site (S1) would probably offer more advantages. The diagram below shows the typical stages of consumer goodsmanufacturing, including the process by which information is fed back to earlier stages to enable adjustment.Write a report for a university lecturer describing the process shown.∙You should write at least 150 words.∙You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.model answer:Most consumer goods go through a series of stages before they emerge as finished products ready for sale.Raw materials and manufactured components comprise the initial physical input in the manufacturing process. Once obtained, these are stored for later assembly. But assembly first depends upon the production planning stage, where it is decided how and in what quantities the stored materials will be processed to create sufficient quantities of finished goods. The production planning stage itself follows the requirements of the goods' design stage that proceeds from extensive research. After assembly, the products are inspected and tested to maintain quality control l Those units that pass the inspection and testing stages are then packaged, despatched and offered for sale in retail outlets. The level of sales, which is the end point of the manufacturing process, helps determine production planning.A product's design is not only the result of product research, but is also influencedby testing and market research. If the testing stage (after assembly and inspection) reveals unacceptable problems in the finished product, then adjustments will have to be made to the product's design. Similarly, market research, which examines the extent and nature of the demand for products, has the role of guiding product design to suit consumer demands which may change with time. Market research, while influenced by product sales, also serves to foster future sales by devising suitable advertising for the goods. Thus the reality of consumer goods manufacturing goes well beyond a simple linear production process. The chart and graph below give information about sales and share prices for Coca-Cola.Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information shown below.∙You should write at least 150 words.∙You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.model answer:The pie chart shows the worldwide distribution of sales of Coca-Cola in the year 2000 and the graph shows the change in share prices between 1996 and 2001.In the year 2000, Coca-Cola sold a total of 17.1 billion cases of their fizzy drink product worldwide. The largest consumer was North America, where 30.4 per cent of the total volume was purchased. The second largest consumer was Latin America.Europe and Asia purchased 20.5 and 16.4 per cent of the total volume respectively, while Africa and the Middle East remained fairly small consumers at 7 per cent of the total volume of sales.Since 1996, share prices for Coca-Cola have fluctuated. In that year, shares were valued at approximately $35. Between 1996 and 1997, however, prices rosesignificantly to $70 per share. They dipped a little in mid-1997 and then peaked at$80 per share in mid-98. From then until 2000 their value fell consistently but there was a slight rise in mid-2000.The graphs below show the numbers of male and female workers in 1975 and 1995 in several employment sectors of the republic of Freedonia.Write a report for a university teacher describing the information shown.∙You should write at least 150 words.∙You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.model answer:The two decades between 1975 and 1995 brought significant changes in therepresentation of women in Freedonia's work force, according to the graphs. In 1975, for example, some 300 000 men and 250 000 women worked in thecommunications sector. Twenty years later, though the number of men remainedunchanged, the number of women rose to 550 000.A similar situation was seen in the wholesale and retail trade sector, where the number ofwomen rose from about 550 000 in 1975 to almost 800 000 two decades later. Thenumber of men in this sector remained stable over the period, at around 700 000.Women also made gains in both the finance/banking industries and in the defence-related public sector. Whereas some 125 000 women worked in finance and banking institutions in 1975, the number increased to 450 000 by 1995. The number of men grew onlymarginally from 425 000 to 480 000 over the same period. In defence, the number of men declined from 225 000 to 200 000, while the number of women rose from 25 000 to over 100 000.Two sectors that retained stable employment numbers for both men and women were manufacturing, which had about 300 000 women and 650 000 men in both surveyed years, and the public sector (non-defence), which employed 650 000 women and 850 000 men. Thus, women appear to have made gains in the Freedonian work force but not at the expense of men.The table below shows social and economic indicators for four countries in 1994, according to United Nations statistics.Describe the information shown below in your own words. Whatimplications do the indicators have for the countries?∙You should write at least 150 words.∙Allow yourself 20 minutes for this task.model answer:A glance at four indicators of economic and social conditions in four countries,Canada, Japan, Peru and Zaire, in 1994 reflects the great differences that existbetween wealthier and poorer nations. The table shows that Japan and Canada had annual incomes of $15 760 and $11 100 per person, respectively. These figures were overwhelmingly greater than the corresponding figures of $160 in Peru and $130 in Zaire.Health indicators, too, reflected overall levels of affluence in the four nations. Life expectancy at birth, for example, was higher among the more economicallydeveloped countries. Japan reported the highest life expectancy, 78. This was followed by Canada, 76; Peru, 51; and Zaire, 47; This suggests that richer societies are able to put more money into health care than poorer ones. The amount of calories consumed daily per person roughly followed the same ranking. Canadians each consumed some 3 326 calories per day while the Japanese took 2846 calories. The corresponding figures for Peru and Zaire were 1927 and 1749, respectively.Literacy rates among adults, too, were higher in wealthier countries, no doubt a reflection of ability to invest in education. Canada and Japan both reported literacy rates of 99%, while Peru claimed 68%. Zaire, the least economically developed of the four countries, had a literacy rate of 34%.The data appear to confirm the often cited link between national wealth and health and education standards. The diagram below shows the average hours of unpaid work per week done by people in different categories. (Unpaid work refers to suchactivities as childcare in the home, housework and gardening.)Describe the information presented below, comparing results for men and women in the categories shown. Suggest reasons for what you see.∙You should write at least 150 words.∙You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.model answer:The diagram reveals that the number of hours per week spent in unpaid work is unequally distributed between men and women. In households where there are no children, women are reported to work some 30 hours per week in such tasks as housework and gardening. Men's contribution to these unpaid jobs averages a considerably lower 18 hours. When children enter the household, however, the inequality becomes even more pronounced. In families of 1 - 2 children, men maintain approximately the same number of hours of unpaid work as in childless households, but the number of hours women work in the home rises to 52 per week, much of it, on doubt, due to childcare responsibilities.Interestingly, when there are three or more children in the household, men are found to work even fewer hours around the house than before the appearance of the third child. Whereas women's unpaid hours rise to approximately 56 per week, the corresponding figure for men, 16, actually represents a decrease. The data suggest that the increased presence of women in the paid work force has yet to lead to an increased role for men in the home.Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information below. You should write at least 150 words. You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.model answer:The pie charts show changes in American spending patterns between 1966 and 1996.Food and cars made up the two biggest items of expenditure in both years. Together they comprised over half of household spending. Food accounted for 44% ofspending in 1966, but this dropped by two thirds to 14% in 1996. However, the outlay on cars doubled, rising from 23% in 1966 to 45% in 1996.Other areas changed significantly. Spending on eating out doubled, climbing from 7% to 14%. The proportion of salary spent on computers increased dramatically, up from 1% in 1996 to 10% in 1996. However, as computer expenditure rose, the percentage of outlay on books plunged from 6% to 1%.Some areas remained relatively unchanged. Americans spent approximately the same amount of salary on petrol and furniture in both years. In conclusion, increased amounts spent on cars, computers, and eating out were made up for by drops in expenditure on food and books. The table below shows the sales at a small restaurant in a downtown business district.Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.∙You should write at least 150 words.∙You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.model answer:Gaining work experience prior to graduation helps university students to succeed in getting their first job. For this reason, some universities insist that all students must complete a Work Experience Requirement. Completing the following six stages results in the requirements’ fulfillment. The process begins with the Application stage. A student reviews an approved list of workplaces and submits applications to places where he would like to work. Next is the Approval stage. When a student receives an acceptance letter, he gives it to the professor for approval. The third stage, Schedule, requires a student to arrange his work schedule. The student should work at least 10 hours/week over 20 weeks. Reports are next. The student must complete a Weekly Report Form and turn it in to the professor every Friday. The fifth stage, Evaluation, takes place during the final work week. A student participates in an evaluation meeting with his work supervisor, who submits an Evaluation Form. The last stage requires that a student submit a Final Report before the last week of spring semester.By following these stages and subsequently submitting the final report, the studentreceives credit from the university. The diagrams below give information about the Eiffel Tower in Paris and an outline project to extend it underground.Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information shown.∙You should write at least 150 words.∙You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.model answer:The Eiffel Tower is situated close to the Seine River in Paris. It is a metal structure that is 1,063 feet high and weighs 7,417 tonnes. The tower has been a tourist attraction since 1889, when it was built, and there are 1,665 steps that can be climbed in order to reach the two viewing platforms. There are now plans to build below the foundations of the tower. These plans include the development of five underground levels that will incorporate the tower's ticket office, shopping facilities, a cinema and museum and two floors of underground parking.Although details have yet to be finalised, the principle is that the five floors will be connected by two vertical passenger lifts on either side of the tower. In addition, the floor immediately below the tower, which is planned to house the ticket office, will also consist of a large atrium with a glass ceiling so that visitors can look directly up at the tower itself.。
