Thank You, My Teammates
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen.
I’m glad that I have this opportunity to stand here and give this speech.I’d l ike to talk about my experience in the debating team of our college today.
Our team is called ‘qiubai’ because we believe our team is too strong to be defeated. Our team now consists of 10 freshmen, where there are only two boys. We were selected for the team by competing in the debating competitions against other students among our college. And I am one of the fourth debaters in the team, who conclude the whole debate with a summary of our opinion within 3 minutes.
Above is the brief introduction to our team. Today I want to share my life in the team with you just because I think the experience is very meaningful to me, though short. Last month, we took part in the debating competition organized by school. It was the first time we had represented our Foreign Languages College to compete in such competitions. We were very excited about it, while we felt a bit pressure at the same time, because last year our college had finished runners-up behind Finance College. Mainly because of the pressure, everyone in the team looked so hard-working. We downloaded lots of information from the Internet about the topic of debating we had been given. We gathered together in a classroom to discuss our understanding of the topic with each other till 10 o’clock p.m. every day. Certainly, someone might disagree on other one’s opinion and then the two would begin to argue with each other over the difference. But after the heated argument, the two people would make it up and continued to discuss the debate with each other as usual. I think it was just a necessary process of improving our arguments by asking and answering several questions our opponents might raise during the debate.
We beat Mathematics and Science College and Civil Engineering College in the first two rounds smoothly. But in the semi final, we were faced with Humanities and Communication College, which had been regarded as the most possible winner because of two excellent debaters. So we prepared more seriously for this debate. We determined our arguments much earlier than before so that we could have plenty of time to drill ourselves to express our opinion more appropriately and to behave well during the debate. The day finally came and I was chosen one of the debaters competing in the debate. We tried our best to express our attitudes, but at last we lost the debate because of the opponents’ superior performance.
We did lose the debate, but I never regretted taking part in the debate and joining the team because of you, my dear teammates. You are all good at debate. I’m honored to have you as my worthy teammates. I think you are boosters, driving me to make constant progress; you are mirrors, reflecting my defects and spurring me to overcome my shortcomings; you are alarm bells, warning me against complacency. Without you, I could have been lazy and satisfied with myself. Because of you, I will grow stronger, make more achievements, improve my abilities and pursue one success after another. So I’d like to say ‘Thank you, my dear teammates’!
That’s all for my speech. Thank you very much for your listening!。
