Unit 9 What does he look like?1a-2cGood morning .all the judges and all my fellow teachers.It’s a great honor for me to stand here to talk about some of my teaching ideas.The topic I am going to talk about is unit 9”what does he look like”?which is from Grade 7Book B of Go For It.I divided my teaching plan into 8 parts.一、Analysis of the Teaching MaterialIt is the ninth unit in this book.And It is the first lesson of the unit ,it’s also a very important lesson.In this lesson, students learn to talk about how to describe people’s apperance.The topic is very interesting and is close to students’life,so they will be interested in it. It is very useful for students to use the topic to communicate with others in their daily life. It’s also helpful for students to improve their speaking ability. All the students can learn some spoken English more or less..As a saying goes that:Good begun is half done.So if the students can learn this lesson well, it will be easy for the Ss to learn the rest parts of this unit better.二、Analysis of StudentsOn one hand ,The students of Grade 7 have got certain ability tocommunicate in English .But some ss still have the difficulty incompleting tasks .because they are lack of vocabularies. And they areafraid to make mistakes.On the other hand the ss have strong memory andimitation ability.So I will arrange some easy and interesting tasks toencourage them to speak in class.三、Teaching Aims:According to the teaching material and the students,I set up my teaching aims.And the knowledge aims, the ability aims and the emotional aims are included.1.Knowledge aimsTo learn the key words and target language, listen to and talk about what people look like.2.Ability aims①To train students' speaking skills and enable them to describe one's appearance.②To train students' listening skills and enable them to draw someone's appearance according to the listening material.③ To t rain students’ skills of working in pairs.3.Emotional aims:To make students know everyone is special and don’t judge people by appearance.四、Teaching Important & Difficult Points1.To help students master the words and sentences about appearance.2. To enable students to master the differences between "is" and "has" when they are used to describe one's appearance.五、Teaching Methods1.Learner-centered Teaching2.Task-based learningmunicative Language TeachingAs we all know, the main instructional aims of learning English in the Middle School is to cultivate students’ abili ties of listening, speaking, reading, writing and their good sense of the English language. So in this lesson I’ll mainly use “Communicative Language” teaching method, “Learner-centered” teaching method and “Task-based” teaching method. That is to say, I’l l make the Ss the center of the class and the teacher is only a director and I’ll give the students some tasks and arrange five kinds of activities:groupwork, pairwork, guessing games,drawing pictures, and talk show.六、Teaching AidsIn order to make my class interesting and lively,I will use a computer and a projector as my teaching aids.七、Teaching ProceduresIt is the most important part in my teaching plan.I’ll finish this lesson in ten stepsStep 1 Lead-inFirst I’ll play a song <You and Me> and we will sing the song together ,then show a picture of LiuHuang ,ask some questions about Liu Huang to lead in the topic in this unit "What does he look like?"T: Who is he?S: He is LiuHuang.T: What does he do?S: He is a singerT;Is he great?S;Yes,he is..T: What does he look like?S......Purpose of my designing: To attract the students’attention and create a relaxing studying environment.Step 2 PresentationTell the students we can use “What does he look like” to ask people’s looks and we can describe people from three aspects.(height,build,hair)1 .Show t pictures to present the first type of describing people’s looks (height).①Show the words of height on the screen and let students read after teacher.②Show three pictures of differert heights.David Bush is tall.George Bush is of medium height.Jack Bush is short.Get students to use the words to answer "What does he look like?"2. Show pictures to present the second type of describing people’s looks (build).①Show the words of build on the screen and let students read after teacher.②Show three pictures of differert builds..Jack Bush is heavy.George Bush is of medium build.David Bush is thin.②Get students to use the words to answer "What does .....look like?"3. Show pictures to present the third type of describing people’s looks (hair)What does she look like?She has long/short/curly/straight hair.4Go over the spelling and the pronunciation of new words.Purposes: Make students grasp the new words and sentences about the appearance.Step 3 PairworkShow some pictures of famous people and let ss make conversations using the target language.StudentA ask “What does he look like”? and StudentB answer the question according to the pictures .A: What does he look like?B:He is.......He has.....Then ask some pairs to show their conversations.Purpose ;To improve ss’ spoken English and cooperating ability.Step 4 listening 1a and 1bIn this part I will finish 1a and 1b1. Let students look at the picture on page 49 and match the people in thepicture with the words and then check answers together.2. Let students listen to 1b carefully, and fill in the blanks in the picture onpage 49 and find Amy’s friend. Play the tape tw ice. The first time, just listen. The second time, students listen and fill in the blanks.Purpose :Develop the students’ listening ability.Step 5 Groupwork1. Let Ss read the conversation in 1c after teacher.A: What does your friend look like?B: She is of medium height,and she has long straight hair.2. Divide the whole class into two groups to do a role play.(Group 1 is A, and group 2 is B.)3.Ask students to describe the people in 1a and then let some students toshow their new conversation.Purpose:To improve students’ speaking ability and communicating ability. Step6 Talk ShowShow students a passage with all the target language in it.Let students read it as quickly as they can.Let them have a competition.Who reads best and who reads quickiest.Step7 listening 2a,2bAfter the interesting and relaxing talk show,we will finish 2a and zb.1.Students read the questions together.2.Listen carefully and answer the questions in 2a.3.Listen again,fill in the chart in 2b.4.Play the tape once again and let students repeat the listening materialsentence by sentence..Step 8 Guessing Game1. Show ten pictures of different kinds of people on the screen and letstudents memorize their appearance within 1 minute.2. Cover the ten pictures and let students guess the words.3. The whole class read the words again.Purposes 1.Train students' communicative ability and i mprove the Ss’ ability of describing people.Step9 Drawing pictures1. Teacher use target language to describe someone.2. Students listen to the description and draw a picture on paper.3. Choose some good pictures to show in class.Purposes.Make students be interested in the class.Step 10 Summary1.Review the words and sentences learned today.2.Students read the sentences together.Purposes;Help the students review what they have learnt in this class.Step 11 Homework2. Finish exercises in exercise book.3. Write a short passage to describe your mother.Purposes八、Blackboard designSay in a word,I’ve already tried my best to do it well in my lesson and i know that there is still a lot for me to learn in my teaching career and also there’s still a long way for me to go in my teaching life,i do hope all the judges and all my fellow teachers can give me some advice on my lesson.That’s all.Thank you.。
