The two charts indicate the typical daily electricity demand in England in winter and summer as well as the electricity use in an average English home.
According to the line graph, the electricity demand in winter is considerably higher than that in summer. The demand in winter rises first from 35,000 units to 40,000 units between 0:00 and 3:00 and then goes downward until it hits the bottom at 30,000 units at around 8:00. By comparison, the demand in summer experiences a steady decrease from 17,000 units to 13,000 units between 0:00 and 9:00. Since then, both the demands in winter and summer begin an overall continued increase, peaking at 45,000 units at 21:00 and 20,000 units at 14:00 respectively.
The pie chart illustrates that the electricity used for heating rooms and water accounts for 52.5% of the total electricity consumption, which well explains why the demand for electricity in winter far outnumbers that in summer. The second largest use is for ovens, kettles and washing machines, occupying 17.5%, while the last two sections, including lighting, TV and radio, vacuum cleaners, food mixers and electric tools, both make up 15%.
