After watching the film The Scent of a Woman, I was moved by Charlie. He was brave enough to face the trouble and never be changed by life. Like what the Uncle Frank said in the meeting:” I don't know if Charlie's silence here today is right or wrong; I'm not a judge or jury. But I can tell you this: he won't sell anybody out to buy his future! And that, my friends, is called integrity. That's called courage. Now that's the stuff leaders should be made of.”
Y eah, at that time, Charlie was offered a bribe from Mr.Trask, the headmaster, he promised to get him into Harvard if he said out who played trick on him. It was really a very good opportunity for Charlie as he was poor and could’t afford it. And also the Uncle Frank told him several times to accept it. But Charlie just said:”I can’t do it.”He knew if he sticks, he would have a tough time in his world. He just clang to his own principle and never changed by the environment.
It is really not so easy to do for us like Charlie. In modern city, most of us are changed by environment. And gradually we loose our own principle. Sometimes we know that what we do was wrong, but we have to do this or we will be destroyed by the society. So we said we just have to change ourselves to adapt to society. But we don’t know that our soul was tact through that.
And also the Uncle Frank said:”Now l have come to the crossroads in my life. I always knew what the right path was. Without exception, I knew, but l never took it. Y ou know why? It was too hard. Now here's Charlie. He's come to the crossroads. He has chosen a path. It's the right path. It's a path made of principle that leads to character.”
The Uncle Frank tried to kill himself because he was in dark and lose the hope of the life. He thought himself “can’t chew the leather any more. So why should I share the tribe’s provision?”So after finished all what he wanted, he tried to kill himself. Although he knew to live on was the right path, he have no courage to do so. Because it was too hard.
On the contrary, Charlie knew he could’t be a squealer. He knew if he didn’t tell the headmaster what he wanted, he might be dismissed from the school. But he still thought that was something that he could’t do. He knew what was right and although it was a hard path, he didn’t give up. Maybe it was out of conscience.
And let us see what Gorge did in the same condition. At first, Gorge promised not telling his parents about it. But in the end, he hided in big daddy’s pocket and become a snitch. Although it was his friends did it, and Charlie didn’t even like them, Charlie chose not to say and Gorge chose to say. He had no courage to face the difficult. But because he had a powerful daddy, he could be get off from punish. Also he could go to Harvard though he was not good enough.
The first time I saw the name of the film, I thought it was a film about women. However after I finished it, I found it was a film about two men helped each other and finally got rid of difficulies. In the film, Uncle Frank danced with a woman was impressed me a lot. He said:”No mistake in the tango, not like life. If you make a mistake, get all tangled up, just tango on.” People thought it was best of the film. But I loved the last scene when colonel pleaded for Charlie most. I thought it was the most important part in the whole film.
The film was an impact on the distorted moral value in America and sarcasm to the non-blind. It raiseed a simple question: how to be a human?。
