My Great-Grandmother’s life story
My great-grandmother was a short but the most brave, tough and smartest woman among my relatives. This small woman suffered foot-binding, arranged marriage, the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution and so on. When she was a young girl, she had to bear the great pain from her toes days and nights because her mother forced her to wrap her feet. In her days, she was engaged to her husband as soon as she was born. My great-grandfather was 5-year older than her. The year, in which they got married, my great-grandmother was only 14 years old. She gave birth to nine children included three boys and six girls. A cold winter day in 1937, her husband died from lung cancer and left her nothing but nine children and a large amount of debt which he owed because of gable. From then on, she led a dog’s life with her nine children. Not only her but also her children were hungry to death. She had to pick up the heavy burden of feeding their empty stomachs and trying her best to earn more money as soon as possible to pay off the debts. In 1945, all the crops in her house were robbed by a pile of bobbers. She had to leave her hometown and went to city in order to get a kind of washing job in the rich families. But when my great-grandmother reached the city in which she had no relatives or friends, she had to beg for food until she got her first job. Then the cruelest thing for her happened, one of her sons died in a traffic accident and her hairs became gray just in one night. Since then, she often fell ill, but still healthy enough to live alone. She passed away peacefully in 14, March, 2009. All my family members missed her very much.。
