数学思维的建立需要重要的三个步骤，即，认识和理解实物物体，建立图形模型和形成抽象的符号。
在数学解题过程中，老师基本会要求有四个基本解题步骤。
步骤是：理解问题、制定计划、执行计划，然后回顾。
一般的解题策略是画出考题的图形，找到一个模式，变成解决一个更简单的问题，向后推理或向前推测将问题表现出来。
学生的思维不应该局限于一个既定的策略或一些预先制定的固定套路，而应该让他（她）们在尝试挑战性问题时自然地使用各种解决问题的策略。
1新加坡的数学教育就是以这一理论和思路为基础不断改进调整产生的，他们的数学教材在西方国家广泛流行，在我国的一些国际学校也开始使用新加坡的教材作为日常教学的课本。
