LM136-5.0/LM236-5.0/LM336-5.05.0V Reference DiodeGeneral DescriptionThe LM136-5.0/LM236-5.0/LM336-5.0integrated circuits are precision 5.0V shunt regulator diodes. These monolithic IC voltage references operate as a low temperature coefficient 5.0V zener with 0.6Ωdynamic impedance.A third terminal on the LM136-5.0allows the reference voltage and tempera-ture coefficient to be trimmed easily. The LM136-5.0series is useful as a precision 5.0V low voltage reference for digital voltmeters, power supplies or op amp circuitry. The 5.0V makes it convenient to obtain a stable reference from low voltage supplies.Further, since the LM136-5.0operates as a shunt regulator,it can be used as either a positive or negative voltage reference. The LM136-5.0is rated for operation over −55˚C to +125˚C while the LM236-5.0is rated over a −25˚C to +85˚C tem-perature range. The LM336-5.0is rated for operation over a0˚C to +70˚C temperature range.See the connection dia-grams for available packages. For applications requiring 2.5V see LM136-2.5.Featuresn Adjustable 4V to 6Vn Low temperature coefficientn Wide operating current of 600µA to 10mA n 0.6Ωdynamic impedancen ±1%initial tolerance available n Guaranteed temperature stabilityn Easily trimmed for minimum temperature drift n Fast turn-onnThree lead transistor packageConnection DiagramsTO-92Plastic Package00571604Bottom ViewOrder Number LM336Z-5.0or LM336BZ-5.0See NS Package Number Z03ATO-46Metal Can Package00571605Bottom ViewOrder Number LM136H-5.0,LM136H-5.0/883,LM236H-5.0,LM136AH-5.0,LM136AH-5.0/883,or LM236AH-5.0See NS Package Number H03HSO Package00571607Order Number LM336M-5.0or LM336BM-5.0See NS Package Number M08ASeptember 2003LM136-5.0/LM236-5.0/LM336-5.05.0V Reference Diode©2003National Semiconductor Corporation 查询LM136-5.0供应商Typical Applications5.0V Reference005716015.0V Reference with MinimumTemperature Coefficient00571615†Adjust to5.00V*Any silicon signal diodeTrimmed4V to6V Referencewith Temperature CoefficientIndependent of Breakdown Voltage00571603*Does not affect temperature coefficientLM136-5./LM236-5./LM336-5.2Absolute Maximum Ratings(Note1) If Military/Aerospace specified devices are required, please contact the National Semiconductor Sales Office/ Distributors for availability and specifications. Characteristics(Continued) Forward Characteristics00571623Application HintsThe LM136-5.0series voltage references are much easier touse than ordinary zener diodes.Their low impedance andwide operating current range simplify biasing in almost anycircuit.Further, either the breakdown voltage or the tempera-ture coefficient can be adjusted to optimize circuit perfor-mance.Figure1shows an LM136-5.0with a10k potentiometer foradjusting the reverse breakdown voltage. With the additionof R1the breakdown voltage can be adjusted without affect-ing the temperature coefficient of the device. The adjustmentrange is usually sufficient to adjust for both the initial devicetolerance and inaccuracies in buffer circuitry. If minimum temperature coefficient is desired, four diodescan be added in series with the adjustment potentiometer asshown in Figure2.When the device is adjusted to5.00V thetemperature coefficient is minimized.Almost any silicon sig-nal diode can be used for this purpose such as a1N914,1N4148or a1N457.For proper temperature compensationthe diodes should be in the same thermal environment asthe LM136-5.0.It is usually sufficient to mount the diodes near the LM136-5.0on the printed circuit board. The abso-lute resistance of the network is not critical and any value from2k to20k will work.Because of the wide adjustment range, fixed resistors should be connected in series with the pot to make pot setting less critical.00571609FIGURE1.LM136-5.0with Pot for Adjustment ofBreakdown Voltage(Trim Range=±1.0V Typical)00571610FIGURE2.Temperature Coefficient
