As pie fights in film grew more complicated,Brener’s bakery was soon making nothing else.Filmmakers preferred custard(蛋奶沙司)pies for throwing. They were appropriately messy and, likely less painful than a cherry pie would be to the face. But by the time the1920s rolled around, people had grown tired of them.Widespread pie-throwing faded, but it didn’t die completely:Comedic films and animation alike have been peppered with pieing ever since, from Bugs Bunny to the Three Stooges.In2015,a part of film history had been re-discovered:“The Battle of the Century”,where3,000pies sailed through the air.It was supposed to be the pie fight to end all others, but in1965the film“The Great Race”promised viewers“the greatest pie fight in history.”Thousands of real pies were used. Now,the Keystone building is a storage facility, and Brener’s bakery is long gone. But the studio’s influence lives on in film,in the occasional throwing of a pie,and on a plate on the corner of the mere remaining building that reads:“This was the birthplace of the motion picture comedy.”46.Which of the following is true about pie-throwing?A.By1912it had become surprisingly common.B.The audience was angry or confused while transport goods between points in Canada, the United States, and Mexico. For decades,Yellow achieved success by concentrating virtually all of its attention on increasing efficiency at every turn.Yellow has long been a master at ensuring that trucks are full before they have a warehouse, and it has also developed precisely time delivery schedules.Unfortunately,Yellow eventually fell victim to its own success. As operational efficiency increased, customer service received less and less attention, and before long, newer and more responsive companies were taking away the firm’s customers.Accompanying this problem was the fact that the customers most likely to seek a more service-oriented transportation provider were also the ones willing to pay high prices for the extra service. As a result,Yellow’s financial performance began to decline, slowly at first, but then more dramatically.Naturally, the decline in profit led to even worse across-the-board service. To help turn Yellow around, the board of directors offered Bill Zollars the position of CEO. Already a highly respected manager,Zollars was attracted by the opportunity to revitalize the carrier.Zollars quickly learned that organizational change at Yellow would have to be fundamental.Over a period of decades, people throughout the company were often willing to do only the minimal amount necessary to get their jobs done.Zollars knew that he had to alter the attitudes, behavior, and performance of30,000employees.He began by improving communication. The CEO spent18months traveling to several hundred locations, and at each site,he talked face-to-face with customers and with employees at all levels. He asked for opinions and provided his own message---namely,that enhanced customer service was to become the firm’s new focus.Zollars’s plan consisted of more than promises and motivational speeches. While previous leaders often didn’t focus on problems and refused to reveal information about the firm’s performance,Zollars openly acknowledged the company’s defect rate---the percentage of shipments that were late, wrong,or damaged.Employees were shocked to find that the rate was40 percent, but that knowledge was necessary to enhance motivation and set a benchmark for improvement.Zollars also instituted the company’s first ongoing program for surveying customer satisfaction, and the results were reported openly throughout the company.Zollars made a real effort to listen to employees, gave them authority to make decisions, and developed an enviable reputation for honesty and commitment.“If people doing the work don’t believe what’s coming from the leadership,”says Zollars,“it doesn’t get implemented.”53.What caused Yellow Corporation’s financial performance to decline?A.There was suddenly some difficulty finding enough warehouses.B.Fewer customers were willing to pay high prices for extra services.C.More transportation providers emerged with the market expanding.D.It put more emphasis on operational efficiency than on customer service.54.What did Zollars do to facilitate the fundamental changes in Yellow Corporation?A.He communicated with customers in person.B.He employed some highly respected managers.C.He reevaluated all the employee’s performance.D.He estimated the minimal amount of job each should do.55.It can be inferred from the last paragraph that it was______that contributed to the success of Zollars’s plan.A.the precise calculation of the company’s defect rateB.the ongoing survey of the employers’satisfactionC.the improvement of the leadership’s confidenceD.the revelation of information to the employees56.Which of the following might be the best title of the passage?A.The CEOs of Yellow CorporationB.The Future at Yellow CorporationC.The Success of Yellow CorporationD.The Turnaround at Yellow CorporationSection C(8分)Directions:Complete the following passage by using the sentences given below. Each sentence can be used only once.Note that there are two more sentences than you need.A.She relied on the help of teachers, students, and community volunteers to turn a parking lot into a garden.B.Waters believes in the importance of people knowing where their food comes from.C.Waters believes in people joining their hands to teach children to become better citizens.D.Many have discovered that they like fruits and vegetables that they had never before been willing to try.E.However,they found it difficult to decide what crops to plant in this garden.F.Every year since then, new crops are added and old crops are evaluated to make sure that they are best suited for the environment and the needs of the school.A Schoolyard GardenHave you ever eaten something that you grew in your own garden? Many people have not had the pleasure of this experience.Alice Waters, the owner of Chez Panisse Restaurant, set out to change all that for a special group of students at Martin Luther King Junior Middle School in Berkeley,California.Waters worked with the school's principal,Neil Smith,to create a cooking and gardening program at the school.(57).______.She also believes that there is a strong relationship between food, health, and the environment. Her goal at the middle school was to show children the pleasure in gardening and in preparing the foods that they cultivated. She wanted to teach them that a healthy body and a healthy environment go hand in hand. The project that Waters began took a lot of time and patience.(58).______.At the same time, renovation was begun to turn an old, unused cafeteria into a kitchen where students could prepare foods and share meals with their teachers. In the1995-1996school year, the first usable crops were planted. They included greens such as arugula and mustard,as well as lettuce, carrots, and potatoes. The following year brought the addition of plants such as apples, plums, black currants, hazelnuts, figs, raspberries, runner beans, and hibiscus.(59).______.Students have found that they look forward to the time they spend in the garden each week. They have learned how to weed, prune, and harvest. They have learned about the life cycles of various plants. They also know how to enrich the soil through composting,a process in which leftover scraps of fruits and vegetables are used as fertilizer.(60).______.Alice Waters dreams that one day there will be a garden in every school in the United States. She hopes that school lunches can be prepared using the produce from the gardens and other locally---grown organic produce.III.Summary Writing(10分)Directions:Read the following passage.Summarize in no more than60words the main idea of the passage and how it is e your own words as far as possible.61.It is universally true that all parents in the world love their children. However,as parents’views of life vary, they show their love in different ways. The monarch type of parents are intolerant and self-centered.They lay down regulations in the family for their children to observe.Furthermore, they insist that their children should act upon them without question. With a firm belief in their own philosophy of life, they have little respect for others’opinions, least of all, their children’s.The sentence they say most frequently to their children is,“you should do this.”Contrary to the monarch-type parents, the servant-type parents revolve around their children all the time. They are soft,good-natured,and easy-going.They never deny their children any wish, and cheerfully run to buy anything their children ask for. They are happy so long as their childrenare content. With the sincere belief that love means sacrifice, they are ready to give up anything for their children’s sake. With their children at the center of their lives, they always ask,“What else can we do for you?”The friend-type parents,as the term implies, treat their children as friends. They are generous and wise.Like good friends, they discuss with their children the latest news, share their children’s interests, and listen attentively to their children’s expression of emotion, whether it is anger, fear, joy or sorrow. They have a close relationship with their children while sticking to their principled stand. They discuss problems with their children rather than provide ready solution. They respect their children as their equals. They often say:“Let’s put out heads together and see what we can do.”There is no doubt that children welcome the third type of parents, for a free, friendly, and sympathetic atmosphere at home is most favorable to the development of youngsters both in body and in mind. All parents should re-examine and change some of their ways of showing their love if they want their children to grow up happily and healthily.IV.Translation(3+3+4+5+5)Directions:Translate the following sentences into English, using the words given in the brackets.62正是他对于种族歧视的反抗才改变了历史的进程。

AA European Union programme is letting blind people experience famous paintings for the first time. It uses three dimensional (3-D)printing to recreate famous paintings so that they can be touched. One painting printed with the new technology is Gustav Klimt's The Kis. It is a popular attraction at the Belvedere Museum in Vienna, Austria. The painting shows a man and a woman standing in a field filed with flowers. They are wearing gold robes and have their arms around each other. The man leans down to kiss the woman.Klimt finished the painting in 1908. Until now. people who have trouble seeing cannot enjoy the artwork. But thanks to the reproduction(复制品)they can touch the piece and feel the ridges(隆起)and depressions(凹陷). Andreas Reichinger started making 3-Dversions of artwork in 2010. He said this reproduction was his most difficult project because the couple's robes are so detailed(精细的).Dominika Raditsch is a blind museum visitor. She touched the reproduction. As she moved her hands around it, she said, "Exactly, can you see these? There are so many details. "Raditsch said she can imagine what the original painting looks like when she touches the reproduction. "It's somehow round. You can feel it. It comes with it. And in many places it's so smooth. And then I think to myself it probably shines too!" Raditsch said. The Belvedere is not the only museum to have 3-D versions of its artworks. Some of the pieces at the Prado, in Madrid, Spain, have reproductions that can be touched. But the piece in Vienna has one special part: it is made with widely available 3-D printing technology. That means one day, blind art fans anywhere in the world coulddownload the source files and print the reproductions themselves.1. What is The Kiss?A. A European Union project.B. A popular painting.C. A 3-D technology.D. A famous museum.2. Why did Reichinger say this reproduction was difficult to finish?A. The painting was reproduced detailedly.B. The original artwork was made in 1908.C. Blind art fans can't download the source files.D. The 3-D technology is not available.3. What is the best title for the text?A. A European Union programme for museum visitorsB. How to reproduce the world-famous paintingsC. A special museum for art fans in Vienna, AustriaD. 3-D printing lets the blind experience famous paintingsB"Have you checked the oil in the car?" my father used to say to me, his way of "Hello, hope you are well." Sometimes our phone calls would begin with a question about the oil and end with a question about the oil, with not a lot in between.Fathers have a lot of love to give, but it's often offered by means of practical advice. In my experience: It's mostly about my car. "How's the car running?" "Did you get it serviced?" My car—an old green Toyota Corona bought for $500—was where my father showed his love. Why can't we fathers just say "I love you" or "It's great to see you"? The point is: that's exactly what we are saying. You just have to translate from the language that is Fatherlish. Listen closely enough and the phrase "I love you" can be heard in the slightly longer "I could come around Saturday and repair your chair." The words "You made my life better from the moment you were born" may be hardly heard, but the main meaning is there in the more common "I'll hold the ladder while you get the leaves down from the roof."When I was 17, I went on my first road trip—a friend and I in that old car. My father stood on the corner on a cold morning to say goodbye. "Highways are dangerous," he said, "so don't try overtaking anything faster than a horse and buggy. And take a break every two hours. And every time you stop for gas, you really should check the oil." At the time we thought his speech was pretty funny and would sing "horse-and-buggy" every time I tried to overtake some other speeding cars.Dad's long gone now. But after all these years, I realize that had I owned a copy of the Fatherlish-to-English dictionary, I'd have understood that the speech my friend and I so carelessly laughed at was simply Dad's attempt at love.4. It is likely that they only see the world in black and white according to a study that is the first to look into sharks’ visual systems.A team at the University of Western Australia studied the visual systems of many different species of sharks and what they have found is diversity in eye design that mirrors the ecological and behavioral diversity of the shark species. The team looked at the retinal cells of 17 species of sharks caught from Queensland and Western Australia and found out that the cells are responsible for sharks’ color blindness.According to the study, these animals are color-blind due to the light receptors they have got in their eyes. There are two main types of light-sensitive ceils to allow animals to see: rod cells help measure brightness because they are highly sensitive to light and allow night vision but cannot tell colors apart, while various types of cone cells help distinguish colors. They looked at the structure of sharks' rod and cone cells in the retina. Human eyes come with red, green and blue cone variations, while sharks appear to have just one kind of cone cell. The study suggests that contrast against the background, rather than color itself, might be more important for object detection by sharks. Costumes that camouflage swimmers’ bodies in sea water are less likely to draw a shark’s attention than ones with bright, solid colors that emphasize their outline. “It’s the high contrast against thewater rather than the color itself which is probably attractive to sharks,” said Professor Nathan Hart who led the study.8. What does Paragraph 2 mainly talk about?A. Stressing the importance of the study.B. Showing the features of sharks’ eye design.C. Giving the process and the result of the study.D. Telling the functions of sharks’ visual systems.9. What leads to sharks’ blindness to color according to Paragraph 3?A. Their less sensitive rod cells.B. Their lack of various cone cells.C. Their inability to tell apart colors.D. Their strong sensitivity to brightness.10. What can be inferred in the last paragraph?A. The color plays a key part in sharks' detecting objects.B. You should make your outline stand out in the sea for your safety.C. You should be dressed in bright color to avoid sharks’ attention in the sea.D. Sharks are more interested in sharp contrast against the water rather than your body.11. What’s the writing purpose of the text?A. To challenge a traditional belief.B. To inform us a scientific discovery.C. To amuse us with interesting information.D. To raise our awareness of protecting wild animals.DToday, plastic is used in almost everything, from shopping bags and bottles to chairs and cars. Plastic has conquered the world. But do you know how it was first made? The first man-made plastic was created by Alexander Parkes, who introduced it at the 1862 Great International Exhibition in London. It was called Parkesine, and it was made from plant materials. Once heated, it could be molded, and it held its shape when cooled. Also, it could be made colored or transparent. However, it was too expensive to produce for common use.In the 19th century, billiards(a game played on a cloth-covered table)was so popular that a lot of elephants were being killed for their ivory, which was used to make billiard balls. So, people tried to find a substitute. A U.S. billiard ball company offered a prize of S10, 000 to the person who could design the best substitute for natural ivory. In 1866, JohWesley Hyatt created Celluloid while trying to win the prize. Although he failed to win, Celluloid was later used to make many products, including false teeth, piano keys, and ping pong balls. In 1909, Leo Backeland created Bakelite. Made entirely of artificial materials, it was the first true plastic. It was inexpensive, and it kept its shape when heated. Soon, it was being used in many things, including electrical products and jewelry. Since then, many other plastics have been developed.Today, most plastics are produced from non-natural materials made from petroleum. They are light, flexible, strong. and cheap. Despite all these advantages, there is one problem: plastic waste breaks down slowly and toxic chemicals can leak from it. Therefore, people are trying to develop less harmful plastics.12. How did Parkesine differ from other plastics motioned in the text?A. It was popularly used.B. It was flexible and cheap.C. It could break down quickly.D. It was made from plant materials.13. What can we know from the passage?A. Plastics could be easily got from plants.B. Bakelite could be heated without changing shape.C. Plastics made from petroleum have few advantages. uD. Celluloid was used to make billiard balls in the 19t century.14. What can be mostly talked about following the last paragraph?A. The disadvantages of plastic.B. 黑龙江省哈尔滨德强高级中学2023-2024学年高二下学期期中测试英语试题一、阅读理解At Beaver Creek, The Extraordinary Awaits You Are no two snowflakes alike? The snowflakes we see in the winter are most likely completely unique from one other.Beaver Creek is a great place to experience the beauty of the snow, with programs for everyone—from children, teens, and women-only lessons to small groups and private-guided experiences.First Track, from Beaver Creek Reserve, lets you be the first on the mountain, with an adventure that begins at 7:30 a.m. when you are met by ski professionals and taken on a private, guided tour—before the mountain is open to the public. Once you have skied, you are treated to a delicious breakfast at Allie’s Cabin. If you are looking for a higher level of comfort there is the White Carpet Club, from Beaver Creek Reserve. Located in the heart of Beaver Creek Village, it maximizes your time on the mountain by streamlining your access to it. At the club, there are private lockers and boot dryers, along with preferred self-parking and a slope-side ski waiter. A receptionist can assist with lift tickets, pass purchases, dinner reservations, and activity recommendations.Of course, there is more to explore during the winter in Beaver Creek as well. There is ice skating, snowshoeing, shopping, and spas—you name it, Beaver Creek has it. It is the perfect place to take advantage of the snow and be in the moment, in the mountains, together. The extraordinary is a rare combination of one-of-a-kind experiences designed to be shared with service that exceeds expectation. Working in a public health unit, I probably have more daily interaction with syringes (注射器) than the average person. But the truth is, having my blood drawn scares me.When I was 9, I had an extremely high temperature. A nurse rudely stuck the needle into my arm, causing a sharp pain. I avoided having blood taken from my body for the next years. A few months before I turned 30, my doctor ordered a blood test as part of my physical exam. I panicked. Sensing my fear, she gently suggested I see a psychiatrist (精神科医生). “Dr. M helped my other patients with the same fear,” she said. When Dr. M called to set up an appointment, I hesitated. Talking about personal problems to a medically licensed stranger was uncommon in my family. “A psychiatrist?” Mother asked. “He’ll just put you on drugs. Can’t you get over this yourself?” I almost listened. But I went to Dr. M’s clinic finally. “Phobias (恐惧症) are pretty easy to treat,” he said. I wasn’t convinced of his words. But despite my doubts, I was running out of options. We started with basic exposure treatment. I watched videos of blood being drawn every day. As I started to feel more at ease with needles, Dr. M suggested drawing blood. As he gently pressed the needle into my flesh, I felt dizzy and breathed deeply. After a few minutes, I looked at the needle. It wasn’t so bad. I didn’t pass out. “You’re doing well,” Dr. M said.I still find it unpleasant getting blood drawn, but thanks to several months of treatment, I’m less scared. I hate to admit it, but Dr. M is right — phobias can be treated. Sometimes, we have to leave our comfort zone and face our fears. And this can lead to freedom in the end.4.What caused the author’s phobia?A.Her sensitivity to pains.B.Her awful performance in study.C.Her bad medical experience.D.Her regular contact with syringes.5.What was the author’s mother’s attitude toward her appointment with Dr. M?A.Conservative.B.Disapproving.C.Supportive.D.Optimistic.6.What can we know about the author’s treatment?A.It cost the author a great deal of money.B.It eased the author’s pain totally.C.It centered on watching videos.D.It was smoother than expected.7.Which can be a suitable title for the text?A.Bravery brings us a happier lifeB.Walk toward what scares usC.Ups and downs make one strongD.Nurse our physical health carefullySports can help you keep fit and get in touch with nature. However, whether you are on the mountains, in the waves, or on the grassland, you should be aware that your sport of choice might have great influence on the environment. Some sports are resource-hungry. Golf, as you may know, eats up not only large areas of countryside, but also tons of water. Besides, all sorts of chemicals and huge amounts of energy are used to keep its courses (球场) in good condition. This causes major environmental effects. For example, in the dry regions of Portugal and Spain, golf is often held responsible for serious water shortage in some local areas. There are many environment-friendly sports. Power walking is one of them that you could take up today. You don’t need any special equipment except a good pair of shoes; and you don’t have to worry about resources and your purse. Simple and free, power walking can also keep you fit. If you walk regularly, it will be good for your heart and bones. Experts say that 20 minutes of power walking daily can make you feel less anxious, sleep well and have better weight control.Whatever sport you take up, you can make it greener by using environment-friendly equipment and buying products made from recycled materials. But the final goal should be “green gyms”. They are better replacements (代替物) for traditional health clubs and modern sports centers. Members of green gyms play sports outdoors, in the countryside or other open spaces. There is no special requirement for you to start your membership. And best of all, it’s free. 8.What is the meaning of the underlined words in paragraph 2?A.resource-consuming B.resource-developingC.resource-protecting D.resource-controlling9.Which of the following is NOT the advantage of power walking according to the passage?A.It is environmentally-friendly.B.It improves our health.C.It is simple and free.D.It can make you put on weight. 10.Which sport is the writer most likely to advise us to do?A.Playing basketball in a gym.B.Motor racing in the desert.C.Cycling around a lake.D.Swimming in a sports center.11.What is the main purpose of writing the passage?A.To show us some major outdoor sports.B.To encourage us to go in for green sports.C.To discuss the influence of some popular sports.D.To introduce some environmentally-friendly sports. In February, news broke that Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff had taken a “digital detox(脱瘾)”: 10 tech-free days at a French Polynesian resort. For a small group of people, taking a step back from devices is an achievable dream, but for most, it’s an impossibility, especially.A digital detox requires dismissing technology almost entirely: taking a break from screens, social media and video conferences for multiple days. The goals—reducing stress or anxiety, andreconnecting with the physical world—are well-intentioned. However, experts say a digital detox isn’t practical anymore for most people.“Technology is very much a part of us now. We bank with an app, read restaurant menus on phones and even sweat with exercise instructors through a screen,” says Seattle-based consultant Emily Cherkin, who specialises in screen-time management. “It’s so embedded(嵌入式的) in our lives, we’re setting ourselves up for failure if we’re going to go phone-free for a week.”As people become increasingly interdependent on technology, doing a digital detox no longer seems like a reasonable goal. But there may be a more realistic solution that will lessen our tech obsession(着迷), without forcing us to totally disconnect.Rather than cutting out technology altogether, practice digital mindfulness. Make sure the use of technology is purposeful. Instead of a full detox, digital mindfulness may be more practical for some people: less worry about cutting tech out entirely, and more focus on being intentional with its use.The goal shouldn’t be to cut off technology or to put a full stop. People still need to send an email, but can do so without getting distracted by the various online contents. This approach is called “grey detoxing”—you’re not totally immersed(沉浸的) or totally cut off from technology. Instead of causing ourselves more anxiety by attempting to live without our phones for a week, we can approach unavoidable screen time in a way that feels right for our individual lives.12.Why does the author mention Marc Benioff in paragraph 1?A.To criticize the idea of digital detox.B.To urge readers to take a digital detox.C.To bring digital detox up for discussion.D.To recommend a French Polynesian resort. 13.Why is a digital detox impossible for most people nowadays?A.They are more stressed and anxious.B.They are deeply influenced by tech.C.They are unwilling to go phone-free.D.They tend to be more pessimistic. 14.What might be a solution to tech obsession?A.Going on a holiday to Polynesia.B.Avoiding tech altogether.C.Disconnecting occasionally.D.Using tech purposefully.15.What does the author think of less screen time in modern society?A.It is achievable.B.It is unreasonable.C.It is ridiculous.D.It is unrealistic. How to Overcome Your FearsHere are five practical strategies that will help you overcome your fears and face a brighter future.Identify your fearsTake a moment to explore inward and identify the specific sources of your fears. Recognize what it is that is holding you back. Ask yourself, “What are you genuinely afraid of?” Spend a few quiet moments observing your thoughts and emotions. 16 .Understand the root causeSpend some time exploring the nature of your fears. Begin reflective thinking by asking yourself, “Why am I experiencing fear?” and “What is causing me to feel anxious?” 17 , you will gain an understanding of the factors behind your fears. When you deeply understand the sources of your fears, you are in a better position to overcome them.Practice acceptanceThe journey of overcoming fear requires acceptance. 18 . Instead, it is a catalyst(催化剂)that guides you on the path of personal development. By recognizing that fear is a universal human emotion that everyone faces at certain times, you can employ its energy for positive purposes.19To overcome your fears effectively, you need to set clear and achievable goals. That’s because you can use a sense of purpose to drive you forward on your journey. In addition, breaking down your broader goals into smaller ones is important.Take action20 . Start small by dealing with the least frightening aspect of your fear and gradually work your way up to more challenging steps. As you go through this journey of action, unexpected opportunities for personal growth will arise. Ultimately, you’ll strengthen your self-confidence as you reconsider your beliefs about life and yourself.A.Establish clear goalsB.Remember all your goalsC.If you take action at onceD.When you answer these questionsE.Then write down in detail what comes up for youF.Accepting fear is not a barrier to self-improvementG.At this point on your journey to overcome fear, it’s time to take action二、完形填空A few years ago, I walked into Panera and placed my order. The bear was thin and small, moving aimlessly.Just a few minutes later, I heard my daughtershouting, “Dad! The bear is right behind us!” An aggressive bear willusually rush forward to frighten away its enemy but would suddenly stop at the lastminute. This one was silent and its ears pinned back—the sign of an animal thatis going in for the kill. And it was a cold April day. The bear behavedabnormally, probably because of hunger.I held my camera tripod in bothhands to form a barrier as the bear rushed into me. Its huge head was levelwith my chest and shoulders, and the tripod stuck across its mouth. It bit downand I found myself supporting its weight. I knew I would not be able to hold itfor long.Even so, this was a fight I had to win: I wasall that stood between the bear and my family, who would stand little chance ofrunning faster than a brown bear. The bear hit at the camera, cutting it offthe tripod. I raised my left arm to protect my face; the beast held tightly onthe tripod and pressed it into my side. My arm could not move, and I sensedthat my bones were going to break.Drawing back my free hand, I struck the bearas hard as I could for five to six times. The bear opened its mouth and Igrasped its fur, trying to push it away. I was actually wrestling with thebear at this point. Then, as suddenly as it had begun, the fight ended. Thebear moved back toward the forest, before returning for another attack. Thefirst time I felt panic. Apparently satisfied that we caused no further threat, the bear moved off, destroying a fence as it went. My arm was injured, but theoutcome for us could hardly have been better.I’m proud that my family remainedclear-headed when panic could have led to a very different outcome.(1)The whole text is mainly arranged in _________.A . result and inferenceB . cause and effectC . space orderD . time order(2)The bear finally went away after it _________.A . felt safeB . got injuredC . found some foodD . took away the camera(3)The writer and his family survived mainly due to their _________.A . calmnessB . patienceC . prideD . cautiousness(4)When the bear moved back towards the forest, the family felt ________.A . excitedB . threatenedC . relievedD . puzzled3. 阅读理解Perhaps there is no sport in the world moreconnected to sneakers than basketball. The 12 Canadianstudents from the University of Sherbrooke in Quebec built their Hoola Oneplastic vacuum cleaner as a classproject.“We did some research and werealized there was no machine around the world to do this kind of job,”Hoola One co-founder Sam Duval told Hawaii Public Radio. “So we told eachother, ‘We will invent it,’ and we did it.”As a means of testing their machine’sefficiency, they recently used it on the sands of Hawaii’s Kamilo Beac h, whichis also notorious for being one of the dirtiest beaches in the world. Thoughtheir first prototypeexperienced a number of technical issues, the studentsmanaged to fix the problems and tidy up the beach.Using a handheld tube, the machinesucksup plastic and sand and dumps them allinto a massive tank of water. Since rocks and sand are heavier than plastic, they sink to the bottom of the tank so they can be dumped back onto the beach. The plastic, on the other hand, floats to the top of the tank.According to Hawaii Public Radio, theteam left the Hoola One vacuum on the island as a donation to the statedepartment- They are now researching the ecological effects of the vacuum onthe beach while they search for funding and sponsorshipsto produce more Hoola One vacuums.(1)What is the hardest problem of keeping the beach clean?A .
