Reading Report of The Sun Also Rises
The Sun Also Rises, the first long novel by Ernest. Hemmingway, is a sign of age.
The Sun Also Rises portrays the lives of the members in so-called “The Lost Generation”, a group of men and women whose early adulthood is involved in World WarⅠ. The war shatters many people’s beliefs in traditional value of love, faith and manhood. Without these accepted notions to rely on, members of the generation that fight and struggle in the war lose their life destination.
In my humble opinion, more or less, the plots in the book are boring and dull. The whole story is just like a endless circle: it starts from where it ends and starts again. Jack Barnes and his fellows, we say “The Lost Generation”, eat, drink, fool around and repeat themselves day by day. I can say that again if I mention all the books of Hemmingway. Actually, Hemmingway himself did the same thing in different books: filled the books with blood and fighting; made the main role of the book to express his own emotion and told what he had ever suffered indirectly. He is pretty good at it. I would like to quote some sentences in Holy Bible:”…vanity of vanity. All is vanity… The sun rises and the sun goes down, and hurries to the place where it rises…What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done; there is nothing new under the sun.”It is very vivid and where the name of the book
originates from. The representative personage of “The Lost Generation”, Hemmingway deserved it.
However, in The Sun Also Rises, those adults never lose their mind. Say, Brett Ashley, she is educated and pursues what she likes. Once her new lover Romero (a young matador) tries to change her life, she says goodbye to him and goes back to Jack’s side. Maybe it is not very reasonable; she can make choices for herself at least. She is that brave and decisive and she is a new image of women.As the preacher said in Holy Bible: "Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry."
Therefore, we still can find out our own ways in the world. While our bodies are wandering, our spirit is exploring the way to the new world. “The only way of learning how to use properly a thing is through its misuse.”The only way of becoming “The Y Generation”is through “The Lost Generation”.。

The Sun Also Rises was Ernest Hemingway's first big novel, and immediately established Hemingway as one of the great prose stylists, and one of the preeminent writers of his time.
Jake is impotent after being wounded in the war but he is deeply in love with a woman called Brett – her full name is Lady Brett Ashley, the title she inherited from her husband. Brett is seeking a divorce from her husband and it quickly becomes clear she is a very shallow person who loves to tease men and have affairs with them but she is incapable of having any real deep feeling for anyone.

Thoughts About The Sun Also Rises After the World War I,many young people feel upset and corrupt.The protagonist of the novel Jack and Brett are typical examples.They love each but can’t marry because of the impotence of Jack..Then Brett always has affairs with a number of men.Her life,like the lives of many in her generation,is aimless and not fulfilling.Other people,such as Cohn,Bill and Mike are also the member of the Lost Generation.In this article,I will mainly talk about the comment of the social condition and the characteristic of the novel.The Comment of The SocialLost Generation refers to the generation after the World War I,which fill their time with inconsequential and escapist activities,such as drinking,dancing,and debauchery. They don’t have any goals in their lives and just want to get easy and comfortable. Normally,they are pitiful generation.Such as Jack can’t have sex,and Cohn feels shy because he is Jewish.With profound psychological consequences,they ignore love and faith.The reason of the appearance of the Lost Generation are a little complicated.On the one hand,as veteran of World War I,they have the experience of cruel war which give them huge fear in heart.On the other hand,they are sensitive and don’t want to believe other people.Then everyone become ruthless and selfish.Nowadays,we can also find the occasion like this.On the road,when a old lady fall over herself,there maybe few people try to help her because they can believe the lady. What’s more,plenty of boys extremely like to play computer games in dormitory instead to learn more skills.They just want to get happiness whatever it takes.That’s what we should to rethink profoundly.The Characteristic of The NovelOn the whole novel,the greatest characteristic is the simple narrate and deep thought.The author just talk about some small thing in their lives without any comment. For example,although Jack does not say so directly,there are numerous in the novel when he implies that,as a result of his injury,he has lost the ability to have sex.In addition,the author successful to express his deep thoughts with some plots.On thisnovel,the Lost Generation lived an aimless,immoral existence,devoid of true emotion and characterized by casual interpersonal cruelty.After read the novel,readers always try to think a lot about the figure and the story.What’s more,the novel also has great importance to contemporary literature.The smart ways to express thoughts was named as Iceberg Theory and more and more people learn that.It will have greater influence to later ages.My ThoughtsI have read the book for nearly4months.Although there are many words I never see, I always learn them on the Internet.The app“You dao Dictionary”helps me a lot and inspires my excitement to learn English.No pain,no gain.I believe my English will get greater progress with my hard working.In a word,I have learned a lot from it and hope to get another book to read in this term.。

• They represent different cultures. Jack likes Romero’s corrida performance because it can demonstrate masculinity and he can gain consolation from watching it. As for Romero, he is very interested in foreign culture, the contact between the 2 people gives benefit to each other.
