But not until this century have we managed to take control of movement, to record it, and in the case of animation, to retranslate it and recreate it. To do all this, we use a movie camera and a projector(放映机).In the world of cartoon animation, nothing is impossible. You can make the characters do exactly what you want them to do.A famous early cartoon character was Felix the Cat, created by Pat Sullivan in America in the early nineteen twenties. Felix was a wonderful cat. He could do all sorts of things no natural cat could do like taking off his tail, using it as a handle and then putting it back. Most of the great early animators lived and worked in America, the home of the moving picture industry. The famous Walt Disney cartoon characters came to life after 1928. Popeye the Sailor and his girl friend Olive Oyo were born at Max Ficischer in 1933.But to be an animator, you don’t have to be a professional(专业人士). It is possible for anyone to make a simple animated film without using a camera at all. All you have to do is to draw directly on to an empty film and then run the film through a projector.41.What does the passage mainly discuss?A.Animal world. B.Movie camera. C.Cartoon making. D.Movement. 42.Which of the following statements is TRUE?A.People were unable to cause the movement to last or record it in the last century.B.Pat Sullivan was a famous early cartoon character.C.It is impossible to make cartoon characters do what they are designed to do.D.In ancient times people were surprised by movement.43.According to the passage, Felix the Cat .A.was created by the American cartoonist FelixB.was designed by Pat Sullivan in the early twentieth centuryC.was unable to do what natural cats could not doD.was created in the United States in the nineteenth century44.It can be inferred from the passage that .A.Walt Disney’s cartoon characters were born earlier that Pat Sullivan’sB.only professionals can create cartoon charactersC.Popeye the Sailor and Olive Oyo were famous cartoonistsD.the cartoon industry started in the United States45.Which of the following statements best describes the author’s attitude towards cartoon making?A.Cartoon making is an easy job. Anyone can do it.B.Only trained people can be employed in cartoon making industry.C.Anyone can make cartoons under the instructions of professionals.D.Cartoon making is no easy job. You have to spend much time drawing onto the empty film.BWhen I was younger, bedtime was always my favourite part of the day. Wearing soft pajamas and with Ian, my stuffed monkey, in my arms, I felt no pressure at all.I named Ian after my uncle when I compared Ian’s long arms and legs to his. One night I ran up to Uncle Ian at a family party and told him I had named my monkey after him. His eyebrows wrinkled in confusion, then a chuckle(哈哈笑)escaped his lips. I guess he didn’t understand how important it was to me.Even if Uncle Ian didn’t think my monkey was special, I certainly did. I dressed him in a white baby nightgown. My mother thought that Ian was the best-dressed stuffed animal in the world. Yes, he was certainly a fashionable creature. The strong cologne(科隆香水)I used on him years ago makes him still smell “pretty”.For a long time, Ian went everywhere with me. He was my best friend, and I told him everything. But when I turned twelve, I realized I was too old for stuffed animals. I thought people would think I was babyish, so I put him in the cupboard with the rest of my teddy bears and dolls. I begged him to understand why I was doing this, but at the same time I longed to talk to him again. It took me several years to realize that it was OK to miss Ian. I know now that maturity(成熟)doesn’t only mean growing up and taking on more responsibility. It also means holding on to your childhood and acting young sometimes.Ian has been with me since I was six years old holding him in my arms connects me to my past and my present as I continue to grow and understand myself.46.Which of the following is not true according to the text?A.Bedtime used to be the writer’s favourite part of the day because of the stuffed monkey.B.Uncle Ian liked the stuffed monkey as much as the writer.C.The writer used to carry the monkey with her wherever she went.D.Years later the writer realized that it was not wrong to miss Monkey Ian.47.The writer loved Monkey Ian deeply because __________.A.he could understand her B.he was a fashionable monkeyC.he could talk with her D.he was her most honest listener48.We can learn from the text that the writer believes ________.A.keeping stuffed animals is babyishB.maturity doesn’t mean growing up and taking on more responsibilityC.one should keep to his childhood and act young sometimes even when he has grown up D.human beings should be kind to animals49.We can infer from the text that _________.A.the writer is still a teenager B.the writer is now a middle-aged womanC.Monkey Ian got angry for being left alone D.Uncle Ian has a monkey-like face。

A. lesson B. truth C. saying D. storyAAmerican researchers say drinking tea may help strengthen the body’s defense system against infection. Doctors at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, did the study. The team studied a chemical found in black, green, oolong and pekoe tea. This chemical is an amino acid(氨基酸)called L-theanine. The scientists say it may increase the strength of gamma delta T cells. That’s the letter T, not the drink. Gamma delta T cells are part of the body’s defenses.First, the researchers mixed some of these cells with antigens(抗原)found in the amino acid. Antigens help the body react to infection. Then the scientists added some bacteria. Withintwenty-four hours, the cells produced a lot of interferon, a substance that fights infection. Cells not mixed with the antigens did not produce interferon. In the second part of the study, eleven people drank five to six cups of black tea every day. Ten other people drank the same amount of instant coffee. That is dried coffee mixed with hot water. Two weeks later, and again two weeks after that, the researchers tested the blood of all twenty-one people. They also looked at what happened when they added bacteria to the blood cells. They found that the tea drinkers produced five times more interferon after they started drinking tea. The coffee drinkers did not produce interferon.Doctor Jack Bukowski led the study. He says the antigens added to the gamma delta T cells were responsible for the increased reaction to the bacteria. He says the study also showed that the cells were able to remember the bacteria and fight them again the next time.Earlier research already has found that tea can help prevent heart disease and cancer. Doctor Bukowski says the new study must be repeated with more people. If the findings prove to be true, he says, then tea drinking might also help protect against bacterial infections. He says the amino acid L-theanine could be removed from tea and used as a drug to strengthen the body’s defenses.38.We may know from the text that ________ can be found in different kinds of tea.A.Gamma delta T cells B.L-theanine C.interferon D.bacteria39.Tea may help strengthen the body’s defense system because it helps ________.A.the body to produce more interferon B.the body to produce more gamma delta T cells C.to add some bacteria to the blood cells D.to mix antigens with some of the cells in the body 40.According to Dr Bukowski, ________.A.the findings of the study have already proved to be trueB.he has taken some amino acid L-theanine from tea and made a drug with itC.further study is needed to prove the findings trueD.he is not sure whether tea can help prevent heart disease and cancer41.What would be the best title for this Text?A.Tea Is Better Than Coffee. B.Tea May Help Fight InfectionC.Tea Can Help Prevent Cancer. D.Our Body Needs TeaBMaybe you never opened that account, but someone else did ——someone who used your name and personal information to commit fraud(造假). When an imposter uses your name, your credit card number, or some other piece of your personal information for their own purpose –in short, when someone takes your personal information without your knowledge –it’s a crime, pure and simple. The biggest problem is that you may not know your identity(身份)has been stolen until you notice that something’s wrong: you may get bills for a credit card account you never opened, your credit report may include debts you never knew you had, a billing cycle may pass without your receiving a statement, or you may see charges on your bills that you didn’t sign for, and even don’t know anything about. If someone has stolen your identity, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) suggests that you take three actions immediately.First, contact the fraud departments of each of the three major credit offices. Tell them to flag your file with a fraud alert(警告)including a statement that creditors should get your permission before opening any new accounts in your name. Then, ask the credit offices for copies of your credit reports. Credit offices must give you a free copy of your report if it is not correct because of fraud. Review your reports carefully to make sure no additional fraudulent accounts have been opened in your name or unauthorized(侵权的)changes made to your present accounts. In a few months, order new copies of your reports to check your corrections and changes, and to make sure no new fraudulent activity hasoccurred.42.What’s the subject discussed in the text?A.What you should do if your credit card is stolen.B.What you should do if your identity is stolen.C.What an imposter always does to make money.D.What the Federal Trade Commission is about.43.What should you do first when you find your identity is stolen?A.Inform creditors not to open any new accounts in your name without your permission.B.Ask for copies of your credit reports and make sure no other frauds have been made.C.Keep ordering new copies to check what you have already changed and corrected.D.Always lock your ID card in your cupboard in case it should be stolen.44.What is the most difficult thing for people to deal with identity frauds?A.No measures can work on the billing cycle.B.There is no strict law for this kind of behaviors.C.It might be a long time before you realize that.D.The FTC does nothing except for three suggestions.45.Which is the least possible if a fraud has happened to you?A.You may have debts in your credit card.B.You may find charges on your bills unauthorized.C.A new credit card may be opened in your name.D.The fraud departments can find out the imposter right away.。

At least 800 people have stayed at the igloo this season even though there are only 10 rooms. “You can get a lot of people in,〞explains Bergqvist. “The beds are three meters wide by two meters long, and can fit at least four at one time.〞/Fat on human beings is distributed in different ways. Some fat people have a large stomach and on waistline- which makes them look round, rather like apples. Others are fatter below the waist, which makes them appear pear-shaped./However, today, more and more consumers are choosing “green〞and demanding that the products they buy should be safe for the environment. The place was full—and all night, in fact, for after we had closed, we let the people stay on and spend the night there.〞【典型例题】一.The idea of fighting a noise by making more noise sounds strange , but that’s exactly what motor engineers are doing in Germany and some other countries.Carmakers’research and development laboratories have already proved that mixing in more noise with the help of loudspeakers can reduce the unwanted noise.Physicists have known about the technique for a long time. Sound is made up of pressure waves in the air. If two sound waves of the same frequency〔频率〕mix so that the highest point of one wave happens at the same time with the lowest point of the other wave, the result is no sound. Therefore, by producing a perfect copy of the noise and delaying it by half a wave cycle〔周期〕, we can kill the unwanted noise. Using this technique many carmakers are racing to develop noise-killing systems both inside and outside the cars.Another good thing about the use of noise-killing systems is that it saves the need for a silencer, which not only reduces the weight of a car, but also makes the motor burn less oil and work better. Some engineers believe that the noise-killing system will be used in most cars in 1996. But the carmakers haven’t deci ded if they will put it into production because it would add several hundred dollars to the cost of their cars.1.Which of the following gives a general idea of how the noise-killing system works?A.By producing pressure waves going in the opposite direction.B.By mixing high frequency sound waves with low frequency sound waves.C.By making copies of the unwanted sound waves and letting them out a little later.D.By mixing new sound waves with the noise and sending them out together.2. Besides its main function〔功能〕the noise-killing system can .A.make a car lighterB.make a car quieterC.reduce the cost of a silencerD.improve the performance of a silencer3.The noise-killing system is not yet popular mainly because .A.it increases the cost of car productionB.carmakers are not sure if it is necessaryC.it is still being tried outD.people still have their doubts答案:1—3CAA二.At 9:00 Dick Spivak’s bank telephoned and said his payment was late. “The check is in the post,〞Dick replied quickly. At 11:45 Dick left for a 12:00 meeting across town. Arriving late, he explained that traffic 〔交通〕had been bad. That evening, Dick’s girlfriend wore a new dress. He hated it. “It looks just great on you,〞he said.Three lies in one day! Yet Dick Spivak is just an ordinary man. Each time, he told himself that sometimes the truth causes too many problems. Most of us tell much the same white lies, harmless untruths that help to save trouble. How often do we tell white lies? It depends in part on our age, education, and even where we live. According to one U.S. study, women are more truthful than men, and honesty increases as we get older. While most people use little white lies to make life easier, the majority of Americans care about honesty in both public and personal life. They say that people today are less honest than they were ten years ago. Although it is believed that things are getting worse, lying seems to be anage-old human problem. French philosopher〔哲学家〕Vauvenarges, writing in the eighteenth century, touched on the truth when he wrote, “All men are born truthful and die liars 〔说谎者〕.〞4. When the writer says “Dick Spivak is just an ordinary man〞, he means ___________.A. it is common that people tell white liesB. Dick could do nothing about had trafficC. it is common that people delay their paymentD. Dick found it hard to deal with everyday problems5. According to the text, most Americans _________.A. hate white liesB. believe white liesC. value honestyD. consider others dishonest6. Vauvenarges’ remark suggests that ____________.A. lying is an age-old human problemB. dishonesty increases as people get olderC. people were dishonest in the 18th centuryD. it is social conditions that make people tell lies答案:4—6 ACD三.Many cities around the world today are heavily polluted. Careless methods of production and lack of consumer demand for environment〔环境〕friendly products have contributed to the pollution problem. One result is that millions of tons of glass, paper, plastic, and metal containers are produced, and these are difficult to get rid of.However, today, more and more consumers are choosing “green〞and demanding that the products they buy should be safe for the environment. Before they buy a product, they ask questions like these: “Will this shampoo damage the environment?〞“Can this metal container be reused or can it only be used once?〞A recent study showed that two out of five adults now consider the environmental safety of a product before they buy it. This means that companies must now change the way they make and sell their products to make sure that they are “green,〞that is, friendly to the environment.Only a few years ago, it was impossible to find green products in Supermarkets, but now there are hundreds. Some supermarket product cop labels〔标签〕to show that the product is green. Some companies have made the manufacturing〔生产〕of clean and safe products their main selling point and emphasize it in their advertising. The concern for a safer and cleaner environment is making companies rethink how they do business. No longer will the public accept the old attitude of “Buy it, use it, for it, throw it away, and forget it.〞The public pressure is on, and gradually business is cleaning up its act.7. It becomes clear from the text that the driving force〔动力〕behind green products isA. public caring for the environmentB. companies’ desire for bigger salesC. new ways of doing businessD. rapid growth of supermarkets8. What would be the best title for the text?’A. Business and PeopleB. Business Goes GreenC. Shopping Habits Are ChangingD. Supermarkets and Green Products9. To begin with. I like the idea of dreaming, of going to bed and lying still and then, by some queer magic〔神奇的魔力〕, wandering into another kind of existence. As a child, I could never understand why grown-ups took dreaming so calmly when they could make such a fuss〔大惊小怪〕about any holiday, This still puzzles me. I am puzzled by people who say they never dream and appear to have no interest in the subject. It is much more astonishing than it would be if they said they never went out for a walk. Most people do not seem to accept dreaming as part of their lives. They appear to see it as an irritating〔令人困扰的〕little habit, like sneezing or yawning〔打哈欠〕.I can never understand this. For 30 feet there was nothing but the widely-spaced wooden sleepers〔枕木〕under our wheels, and nothing to stop us falling into the steaming pond below if we lost our balance. Right under the bridge lay the body of a dead cow. I watched Mat ashe came near to the bridge and rode straight over, without ever, slowing down. I stopped.“What’s up?〞he cried out from the other side.“I’m not riding over that thing. If I slip, I’ll be in there with that cow,〞“There’s n othing to it. I just did it. didn’t I?〞“You’re stronger and taller. My feet don’t touch the ground. You do it for me!〞Mat said strength didn’t come into it and rode off. I knew he would give me at least an hour before coming to help. The sun burned my face, sweat ran off my forehead into my eyes and stuck my blouse〔女衬衫〕to my body. Try myself rather than wait for Mat to help. I rode back to get a good run-up and over I went. Mat was that right:all the difficulties were in the mind.1. I was excited to take my rescue Beagle(比格犬)to the river the other day, as it's within walking distance of our new home. 56 (spend)her first three years in a cage, Georgie had never seen a body of water, and I wanted to get there before sunset to watch her experience it.I was growing 57 (increasing)impatient about all the stops her little Beagle nose required. These were all new 59 (discover) for her, and she took her time studying them. When I accepted it was fruitless to hurry her along, I whipped out my cell phone and began texting. I thought that I needed something to do while Georgie was slowing us down. Then, 60 some reason, I heard the cicadas(蝉),and I remembered the sound of cicadas is my favorite sound. That awakened something 61 (bury) within me that longed for the simple pleasures 62 had been replaced by technology.I made a 63 (consciousness) decision to be present, and to enjoy the journey to the river Just like Georgie. A large number of the world's population are now able to buy and use cars.Having a car gives much mobility(活动余地), enabling the driver to move around freely. It was over. The match was stopped. The world seemed to stand still for a moment as I looked at who had beaten me. “I’ve lost,” I said in m mind. “The last chance to win and I had lost.” It was the final round of wrestling. It was my last year at camp and I wanted to have an undefeated season. But now, I had lost in the tournament(锦标赛).My coach came over to help me up. He had been there through all m years of wrestling, all my wins and lose, all my hopes and dreams—and now he was there, fixing my smashed nose.“This must have happened during that las t throw.
