The Farmer and His Sons

Once there was a farmer who had four sons. They were always fighting with

each other. He wanted the four sons to live in peace and to work together on

his farm.

One day, he called them together and showed them a bundle of sticks.

"Break it," he said.

Each of the sons tried, but none of them could break the bundle of sticks.

"Now," said the father, "take one stick and break it." They did, and the stick

broke easily.

"You see," said the father, "if you work together, you are strong, like the

bundle of sticks. But if you fight with each other, you are weak, like one

stick. Remember this lesson and live in peace."
