唯一属于美国民族自己独特的节日，只有每年十一月第四 个星期四的感恩节。感恩节是美国家庭亲友团聚的日子。特色 食物是吃烤火鸡。 感恩节过后就是冬季，所以这个节日有迎接冬季意义。最 早有文字记载的感恩宣言是在1620年，是由第一批乘五月花 号船从英国来的清教徒向上帝做的祷文，原文仍在。他们早年 在新根据地落户，经过了半数死亡的惨痛生活，后来在当地印 第安人的帮助下，生活开始稳定，所以集体聚在一起向上帝祈 祷和感恩。1676年6月20日，麻省查理斯镇的政府官员，代表 民众感谢上帝所赐予的经济繁荣和社会稳定，经过无记名投票， 选出6月29日这一天作为感恩日。美国国会于1782年正式宣告 每年的11月的第四个周四作为美国全国的感恩节。 美国人吃火鸡，其象征意义类似中国人喝腊八粥开始感觉 过年。感恩节是美国一年一次全国过年气氛的开始，一直到圣 诞结束。
