Before的详细用法总结

Before的用法

我们最初接触的Before一般是作为介词 使用的，一般表示空间上的“在…之前” 。

例如：The tea has been set before her.茶已经摆在她面前了。

Before作为介词 时，需要注意的是，一般不用在表示具体时间的词之前。比如，两年之前，我们用two years ago，而不能说.efore

two years.

Before作为介词 时，有一个特殊用法需要注意，即before long

表示“不久之后 ”。

例如：Before long he got married.不久之后他就结婚了。

Before作为连词 时，一般意为“在…之前 ”，用来引导时间状语从句 。引导的从句中的动作一般发生在主句动作之后。

Before作为连词 时的用法较为复杂，具体要点如下：

一、主句用一般现在时/一般将来时 ,从句用一般现在时 。

例如：You should let me explain what I did before you

criticize me.

在你批评我之前，你应该让我解释一下我做过什么。

二、主句用过去完成时 ,从句用一般过去时 。一般翻译为“在…之前就… ”。

例如：1.His father had died before he was born.

他父亲在他出生之前就已经 去世了。

2.She had finished her homework before her mother

returned.

她在妈妈返回之前就已经 把作业完成了。

三、主句用一般过去时 ,从句用过去完成时 。从句用过去完成时表示一个过去没有完成 或没来得及做的、时间顺序在后 的动作，常译为“★还没（来得及）…就…★ ”。

例如：1.He rushed out of the office before I had realized what was happening.

我还没意识到发生了什么事，他就冲出去了。

2.She left before I had had a chance to speak to her.

我还没来得及跟她说话，她就离开了。

四、主句用一般过去时 ,从句用一般过去时 。(不强调时间的先后，只是一般性地叙述事实 。)

★注意：许多语法格式并没有局限性，大多数时候只是为表述服务的。语法规则多为总结日常用语而来，多数是描写性质的，我们可以从一些日常用语中提炼出一些语法规则，但切不可生搬硬套某些语法规则来生造出一些并不存在的句子。

例如：1.She didn't understand me before I explained it to her.

在我向她解释之前，她不理解我的意思。

2.His father died before he was born.(注意与第二条规则中例句对比)

他出生之前，他父亲就去世了。

3.She left before I had a chance to speak to her.(注意与第三条规则中例句对比)

我还没来得及跟她说话，她就离开了。

五、before从句的谓语有时用could+动词原形 ，主句用一般过去时/过去完成时 。

例如：1.She quickly locked the door before he could reach it.

她趁他还没走到门前迅速锁上了门。

2.It was some time before she could speak.

过了好一会儿她才说出话来。

六、固定句型：

1.It was +时间段+ before … 意为“过了多久才… ”

It was a long time before he got to sleep again.

过了很长时间，他才又睡着了。

2. It was not long +时间段+ before … 意为“不久就… ”

It was not long before he sensed the danger of the position. 不久他就意识到了处境的危险。

3.It will（not）be +时间段+before从句 .(before从句指将来时间，通常用一般现在时 。)

It will be an hour before the police arrive.

要过一个小时，警察们才能到。

★注意：before从句在某些情况下也可用一般将来时，这时一般含有说话人的主观感情色彩。

例如：It will be long before she will come back.她要过很久才能回来。(说话人认为她过很久才能回来，强调时间之长，可能意指听话人别再等了 。)

China will surpass the United States.有些专家预言，中国用不了多少年就会超越美国。(强调所需时间之短 )

七、Before用于特殊结构hardly/scarcely/barely...when/before

中，表示主句和从句的动作相继发生，意为“一…就，刚…就 ”。

例如：I had hardly sat down before the bell rang.

我刚坐下，铃就响了。

★注意：hardly,scarcely,barely位于句首时，主句要用部分倒装。

例如：Hardly had a moment passed before the door creaked

open.

还没过一会儿，门就“咯吱”一声开了。

★注意：hardly/scarcely/barely...when 有时可与not...before换用。

They had hardly talked for half an hour when she entered.

= They had not talked for half an hour before she entered.

他们才谈了不到半个小时，她就进来了。

八、Before的一些特殊翻译法。

1.翻译为“否则，以免 ”。

Do it now before you forget .

I will write it down before I forget it . 2.翻译为“宁愿…也不… ”，常与will/would 连用。

I would die before I would tell the truth.

I’d shoot myself before I apologized to him.

I would / will die before I surrender .

下面，我们来学学before的用法，首先，我们可以在before后面放上一个名词，或名词性词组：

I’ll try to finish my report before dinner.

我要在晚饭前完成这个报告。

I’ll pick you up at the entrance before 6:30.

我6点半以前到入口处接你。

同时，我们也可以在before后放一个句子，表示在做某事之前，一般也会用过去式，或一般时：

Before I came to Guangzhou, I was in Beijing as an English

interpreter. 我来广州之前，在北京做英语口译。

Before we got married, we were living in completely different

countries.

另外，before还可以直接单独使用，表示“从前”，“以前”：

I never thought about it before.

介词before和behind的用法及例句

1．before的用法和例句：

1)在……前面：

We have a good day’s work before us.

我们还有一整天的工作要做。

He wanted to show off before her.

他想在她面前卖弄一下。

Pride comes before a fall.

骄傲就会摔交。(谚)

2)在……之前：

The darkest hour is before the dawn.

最黑暗的时刻过了就是黎明。(谚)

Before starting the work，they had a good discussion.

工作开始之前他们好好讨论了一次。

That happens in 400 B.C.(before Christ).

这足公元前400年发生的。

3)用于某些成语：

Before long，their work began to show results.
