Khaled Hosseini was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, and moved to the United States in 1980. Hosseini graduated from Independence High School in San Jose in 1984 and enrolled at Santa Clara University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in biology in 1988. The following year, he entered the University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine, where he earned his M.D. in 1993. 我们认为，译作追风筝的人更为合适。“追风筝”是作为本书的线索贯穿全文，虽然这个事件是发生在本书主人公儿童时代的事情，但是，从后面的情节可以得知，正是因为“风筝”导致主人公背叛、并抛弃了自己儿时的好友，导致了后来一系列悲剧的发生，主人公长大成人后，回到阿富汗以向心中永恒的遗憾求得救赎，而这则替代了前面“风筝”这个具体的意象，成为主人公再次追寻的目标。V2译作“追风筝的孩子”则是将重点放在主人公儿时的活动和记忆上，略显片面。
