表 示 “ 一 ” 的 概 念 时 ， a / a n 与 o n e 同 义 ， 但 不 强 调 数 量。a用于辅音开头的单词前，一般弱读为/ə/，在强 调时可重读为/ei/；an 用于元音开头的单词前，一般 弱读为/ən/，在强调时可重读为/æn/。
如：
a computer一台电脑；
an old man 一位老人；
表示某类人或事物中的任何一个。 He is an English teacher. 他是个英语老师。
表示“一”这个数量而又不特别强调数量。 There is a table and four chairs in that dining-room. 餐厅里有一张桌子和四把椅子。
用于首次出现，一方不知道的人或物的名词前。 如：

（5）不是特指的物质名词或抽象名词前不用冠词。如：
Money is not everything.金钱不是万能的。

（6）名词前已有指示代词this，that，these，those和 物主代词my，your，his，her，our，their，its或不定 代词some，any，no，each，every等作定语时不用任 何冠词。如：

特别注意：
①这里的元音和辅音指的是音素，不是指字母。 如：a university 一所大学；an honest man 一 个诚实的人。

不定冠词a (an)与数词one 同源，是"一个"的意思。a用于辅音音素前， 一般读作[e]，而an则用于元音音素前，一般读做[en]。 1) 表示"一个"，意为one；指某人或某物，意为a certain。
