名著阅读(三) 《金银岛》《野性的呼唤》A [2020·原创]As we walked down the shore, Ben Gunn told his story.“I was alone here for years,” he said. “One day, I found the skeleton(骷髅). I saw it was pointing to a tree. I dug around that tree and found the treasure. I was living in a cave, so I took the treasure to the cave. This morning, when Long John Silver and his men came to look for the treasure, I showed myself to one of them. He thought I was a ghost.” Ben laughed. “He ran off, and this gave me time to get back to the squire(乡绅) and the doctor. They were waiting at the cave.”“Now I know,” I said to the doctor, “why you gave the map to Silver.”“It was useless by then,” the doctor said. “There was no bur ied treasure. Ben Gunn had it. My plan was to get Long John Silver and his men away from the stockade(木寨). We could then get some stores from it.”When we got back to the cave, the squire was waiting for us.“Three of the mutineers(反叛者) got away,” the doctor told him. “But if we hurry, we can get to the boat before them. They ran back to the stockade on the other side of the island. We are nearer to the boat than they are.”I went into the cave. The captain was lying inside it next to the treasure—a pile of gold coins.“Hello, Jim,” he said. “I am pleased to see you. But I don't think you or I will be going to see again.”That night, the captain died. We carried the treasure down to the boat. We lit a fire on the shore and had a fine meal together. We didn't care about the three men. We left them on the island.I will not tell you about the journey home. Nothing important happened. But as soon as we got to Bristol, Long John Silver ran away.
如Adela 、Manchester 、NATO 。

I dug around that tree and found the treasure. I was living in a cave, so I took the treasure to the cave. This morning, when Long John Silver and his men came to look for the treasure, I showed myself to one of them. He thought I was a ghost.” Ben laughed. “He ran off, and this gave me time to get back to the squire(乡绅) and the doctor. They were waiting at the cave.”“Now I know,” I said to the doctor, “why you gave the map to Silver.”“It was useless by then,” the doctor said. “There was no buried treasure. We were not afraid of the three mutineers. We had pistols(手枪). They had none. There were more of us than of them. The next morning, we went in the boat towards the Hispaniola. We didn't care about the three men. We left them on the island.I will not tell you about the journey home. Nothing important happened. But as soon as we got to Bristol, Long John Silver ran away. This was because men, going through the Arctic(北极的) darkness, had discovered a yellow metal—gold. And because shipping and transportation(运输) companies were advertising the discovery, thousands of men were rushing into the Northland. These men wanted heavy dogs, with strong muscles(肌肉) for working and thick coats to protect them from the cold.Buck lived at Judge Miller's house in the sunny-kissed Santa Clara Valley. There were big stables(马厩), long grape fields, fruit gardens and a big swimming pool. Buck ruled over the whole kingdom. Here he was born and here he had lived the four years of his life. He protected the Judge's sons and daughters at long midnight or early morning walks. On cold winter nights he lay at the Judge's feet in front of the warm library fire. He was king—king over everything, crawled(爬行的), walked, or flew at Judge Miller's place, including humans.Buck was this kind of dog in the autumn of 1897, when the discovery of gold in the Klondike pulled men from all over the world into the frozen North. But Buck did not read the newspapers. He did not know that Manuel, one of gardener's helpers, was not to be trusted. Manuel loved to gamble(赌博). He believed he could win but he was doomed to failure. On the night of Manuel's betrayal(背叛), no one saw him and Buck went off through the fields. Buck imagined it to be a relaxing walk. To be sure, it was unwanted, but Buck had learned to trust men he knew. However, when the ends of the rope were placed in the stranger's hands, he barked. Then be careful, you are one of them who have bad relationship with failure. And this is the only reason why people often keep themselves away from their success. The power of failure is that it helps us to learn fro our mistakes and missteps and we must consider a failure as an opportunity to grow rather than giving up.Let's discover the reasons why successful people believe that opportunity lies in every failure. In case you haven't failed yet, chances are that you haven't tried hard yet.Look at all successful men and women throughout our history, they all had one thing in common. That's to say they failed not once but several times before they achieved success. If you feel your one failure is your ultimate (终极的)failure, and that feeling of sinking down is known as an ultimate failure, you are pushing yourself away from your expected success. Achievement is all about finding out what mistakes you made, what is the main cause of that failure, and how you are going to make up for it.Success requires willpower, passion, hard work, intelligence, determination, but all of the above, success requires failure. For example, the information for weather forecasts is sent by satellite. Some satellites have cameras which take photographs of the Earth to show how clouds are moving .Satellites are also used to connect our international phone calls. Computer connections of the World Wide Web and Internet also use satellites. Many of our TV programs come to US through satellites. Airplane pilots also sometimes use a satellite to help them find their exact location. We use satellites to send television pictures from one part of the world to another. They are usually 35,880 kilometers above the equator. Sometimes we can see a satellite in the sky and it seems tostay in the same place. This is because it is moving aroundthe world at 11,000 kilometers an hour—exactly the same speed that the earth rotates. A satellite must orbit the Earth with its antennae facing the earth. Sometimes, it moves away from its orbit,So there are little rockets on it which are used to put the satellite back in the right position .This usually happens about every five or six days. Space is not empty! Every week, more and more satellites are sent into space to orbit the Earth. A satellite usually works for about 10-12 years. I dug around that tree and found the treasure. I was living in a cave, so I took the treasure to the cave. This morning, when Long John Silver and his men came to look for the treasure, I showed myself to one of them. They were waiting at the cave.”“Now I know,” I said to the doctor, “why you gave the map to Silver.”“It was useless by then,” the doctor said. “There was no bur ied treasure. Ben Gunn had it.
