本文从莫言作品的外译入手,提出了典籍外译的三点看法:一、理解好原文;二、表达好译文;三、建立良好的典籍翻译批评制度;并进行了初步的论述,望能抛砖引玉。

著名文学评论人孟庆澍曾说莫言的作品能取得如此的辉煌,能获得外国评委的认可,离不开葛浩文先生的翻译。
葛浩文(Howard Goldblatt)是美国著名的汉学家和中国当代文学翻译家,在谈到对当代中国文学作品的翻译时,葛浩文坦言他非常喜欢中文,英文也很好,深刻地了解翻译中的困难与挑战,他的翻译忠实于原著又富于创造性,他勇于挑战翻译中充满的不确定性。
因此他提到许多影响翻译成功的因素,其中决定性因素就是掌握好自己的母语。
本文认为典籍翻译应遵循以下路径:一、理解好原文典籍作品离我们年代久远,理解原文真实思想常用方法是:各类辞典,专家。
而译者本身古文修养的差异直接影响典籍翻译,所以从事典籍外译的工作者一定要与优秀的典籍研究专家建立密切的联系,这样才能达到翻译中信、达、雅 或意美、音美、形美 或西方人的动态功能对等等标准。
顺便说一下,尤金·奈达之所以把功能对等改为动态功能对等,就是为了强调翻译活动是当地人的活动,功能对等是当地人的功能对等,是动态的,不是静态的、一成不变的;所以经典作品的重译是必要的。
比如许渊冲和James Legge 对于《关雎》的英译。
通过对比,我们可以看出中外译者的译文各有千秋,但根据一切翻译活动都是当代活动这一理念,James Legge 对原文的理解已落后当代中国学者对它的研究与理解了,他的译文不能充分表达原诗的内涵。
