then captured by closing it into a cooled metal mould. Air is then blown into the parison, inflating it into the shape of the hollow bottle, container or part. After the plastic has cooled sufficiently, the mould is opened and the part is ejected.

The first blow molding patent in the United States was awarded to Saml T. Armstrong in 1851. Although the idea of blow molding was patented in 1851, blow molding was not manufactured for production till 1958.That was when John H. Breck introduced shampoo in a highdensity polyethylene bottle, and a European supplier of foods used rigid polyvinyl chloride (PVC) as a liquid container. The first plastic containers were more expensive than glass containers, but the price of high-density polyethylene quick fell in 1959 to $0.38 per pound. The growth of blow molding can be contributed to many factors, but the development of high-density polyethylene was the major reason blow molding had an explosive growth in the late 1950's and early 1960's.
