IELTS Speaking Tips1.Focus On What's Important When You PrepareUnless you have particularly bad pronunciation, don’t spend a lot of time and money on pronunciation lessons. You are better to spend this time increasing your range of vocabulary and sentence structures, and practising speaking as much as you can to increase your fluency.2.Avoid NervesThis can be difficult because you are taking a test, but try not to be nervous! If you can’t speak much because you are nervous then you may get a lower score as the examiner needs to hear you speak as much as possible in order to assess your skills. If you speak freely and confidently then you may get a score you did not expect!3.Extend Your AnswersOf all the IELTS speaking tips, this is probably one of the most important! Theexaminers job is to assess your speaking, so if you say very little, he/she will not be able to do this.Don’t give one word answers such as ‘yes’ and ‘no’ and leave it at that. Your job is to give the examiner as much language as possible to assess, so speak as much as you can.4.Stay on TopicIt's important to extend your answers as mentioned above, but make sure you stay on topic –don’t talk about anyth ing that comes into your head if it is not answering the question!5.Don't Rely on the ExaminerThe examiner usually won’t prompt you to say more if you don’t say enough, so it’s up to you to give a full answer to each question. If you don’t, then the inter view will be over very quickly and you may not be happy with your score!6.Understand the QuestionsIf you do not understand a question, then ask the examiner to repeat it. Don’t try to answer it the first time if you have not understood or heard it properly. You won’t lose marks for asking for a question to be repeated, however if you are unable to understand a lot of the questions you are probably not ready to take the test!7.Don't Show OffYou want to do your best to impress the examiner, but try to keep within yourcapabilities. If you try to use lots of grammar structures and vocabulary that you are not confident with, you may simply bring down your score.8.Keep Eye ContactTry to have eye contact with the examiner. This does not mean you need to look at him/her all the time, but it is normal when you have a conversation with someone to spend quite a lot of time looking at them as that keeps their attention. If you are speaking with someone and they never look at you this feels quite strange!9.Listen CarefullyListen very carefully to the questions so you are answering them correctly. Forexample, if you are asked about an event in the past, make sure you answer using the past tense.10.B e on TimeThese IELTS speaking tips will not be much use to you if you are not on time! You are going to get off to a bad start if you have upset the examiner because you have kept them waiting so arrive in plenty of time!_______________________________________Follow these IELTS Speaking Tips and hopefully you will do better in the exame. But there is nothing better than practice speaking to improve your score so try to find someone you can talk with. Also, check out all our other pages dedicated to IELTS Speaking and the IELTS Speaking Lessons.Lesson 1: IELTS Speaking Part 2In the IELTS speaking part 2, you will be given a topic by the examiner, and you have to speak for two minutes. The topic will be one that the examiner chooses and you cannot change it.They are always things that you should have some experience of and be able to talk about. However, some students find it difficult to do because you only have one minute to prepare what you are going to say.You may also be nervous having to speak for 2 minutes in front of someone. You don't want to run out of things to say so in this lesson there are some tips to help you extend your long-turn.Let's imagine that you are given this IELTS speaking part 2 question:Firstly, you must talk about the topic on the card. However, if you only talk about the specific questions on the card, you may find that you finish too soon.As long as you keep to the topic, it is ok to talk about other things. Here are two things you can do in the minute you have before you speak to help you find more to say for the IELTS speaking part 2.1. Use other ‘question’ promptsThese are question prompts:WhoWhatWhenWhereHowWhyWhen you prepare, write down the other question prompts that are not on the list, and think of things you can say about those as well. For example:When - When did you meet?Where– Where did you meet?2. Think of a StoryYou can also tell a story about the person, place, event or thing you are discussing. So in your one minute, think of and note down a quick and preferably interesting story to tell about the topic. You can tell the story anywhere in your IELTS speaking part 2, as long as it fits in.Example IELTS Speaking Part 2The person I’m going to talk about today is my teacher from high school. (who) Hername was Miss Chadwick and she taught quite a few subjects at the school. She had been working there for quite a few years when I met her I think. (where) We met forthe first time in my English class. (more about ‘who’) I remember this well because she was quite young compared to most of the other teachers in the school so I was surprised that she was a teacher! In fact she looked more like she could be one of the older students!(How long) So I met her when I was 15, and that was 10 years ago. I don’t actually know her anymore as we lost contact soon after I left the school, but I still remember her very well for several reasons. (What qualities) Firstly, she was very kind. She always treate d all the students very well in the class, and I can’t remember her ever shouting at anyone. Also, she had a really good sense of humour. She would make jokes in the class which most of the other teachers never did. The other teachers were very serious all the time. And she made the classes a lot of fun and very interesting, something that I think is very important otherwise you start to get bored. Oh, and also she explained things very well and very clearly. Often teachers are not able to do this in a way that students can understand, especially when it's complicated subjects. So those are the qualities that she had. (why such an influence) The reason she had such an important influence on me is because I was quite a shy person at school and not very confident, but she helped me to change this. (tell a story) Each year, there was a school play that would be held in front of all the parents, and that year, when I was 15, Miss Chadwick was organizing and directing the play. I really didn't want to be in it because I was so shy, but Miss Chadwick insisted that I take one of the roles, and it was one of the main roles which meant that I would have to do a lot of speaking! I was so nervous. Anyway, I went ahead and did it, and on the night I did really well and really enjoyed it. And that really boosted my confidence and this has helped me to this day.So my teacher Miss Chadwick is the person who has influenced my life and I will never forget her.。

I would like to meet Mr Jonathan as he appears in the news for his bestseller. He is a writer and his recent book “The Amazing Riders” has become the bestseller. So, the local news agencies have made reports on him and his reputation is soaring up. Interestingly, Mr Jonathan lives in my locality but I was unaware of his intellectual skills. His bestselling book is the talk of the town and the news agencies, newspapers and magazines are after him to make stories about his book and contribution to the contemporary literature.I would like to meet Mr Jonathan for some solid reasons. The topmost issue about meeting him is to know about his writing. He writes smoothly and when the readers read the stories, it appears that the events are before them. In fact, I, as a reader of his book, has become his great fan. His narrative style is alsodifferent than the other writers. He uses a different tone to describe the events through his writings. Besides, his plots are also interesting and will make you amazed. Before publishing the book, he was not that much familiar in the locality and people knew him as a simple man. But now he has become a celebrity by dint of the news.I have so many questions for him to ask. If I get the chance to meet him, I will ask him first about his story plots and outlines. Some of his plots are highly interesting and they attract the attention of the readers. Further, I will try to get information about his narrative style. I think he will also share with me that how much time he spends to make a story and where he gets his inspiration to write. These are the initial queries from my side for him.雅思口语必备高频Part2话题参考答案--Describe a famous personTopic:Describe a famous person you know. You should say:Who the person isHow you know this personAnd explain why you want to meet him/her.

Describe a popular comic actor/actress in your country.Describe a childhood friend of yours.Describe someone who is talkative.Describe an interesting person you would like to meet.Describe a teenager you know.Describe a famous person/celebrity in your country.
Describe a popular comic actor/actress in your countryYou should say:Who he/she isHow you knew him/herWhat comedies have he/she performedExplain why he /she is popular拿到题,有同学可能会担心,我不看喜剧怎么办?

It makes me feel like a smart detective myself.雅思口语必备句型二:“That reminds me of...”(那让我想起……)When we are talking in the IELTS speaking test, this can be a great way to add more details. For example, if the topic is about traveling, I can say, “I once visited Paris. That reminds me of the beautiful Eiffel Tower. Standing under it, I was like a little ant looking at a giant. And the smell of freshly baked croissants in the air, oh my god, it was so wonderful.”雅思口语必备句型三:“I can't help but...”(我忍不住……)This shows a strong feeling or action that you can't control. Suppose the topic is about food. I might say, “When I see a big bowl of ice cream, I can't help but drool. It's like the ice cream is calling my name. My friend always laughs at me when this happens, but I don't care. Ice creamis just too delicious.”雅思口语必备句型四:“It seems to me that...”(在我看来……)It gives your opinion in a gentle way. Among them I love my mother more than anyone else in the whole world. I adore my mother for her caring, loving, adorable behaviors and wit. She is the person I can share everything with and that's the reason I worship her so much.Possibly she was the first human I saw when I opened my eyes in this world. A relationship with a mother is divine and all of my childhood memories are either related to my mom or my school. I can still remember a day I was late to come back home after school and that's because there was a ceremony at the school I did not know about. All of a certain I found that my mother was entering through the school-gate to find me. I was so frightened that my mother would rebuke me for being late unnoticed and she must be mad at me. But to my best surprise, when my mother saw me she had a warm smile in her face that I'll never forget till my last breath in this earth. Then she hugged me and gave me a kiss. I felt then that I love my mother more than me. She attended the program at the school and afterward we came back home together.I spent my 19 years or so with my father and mother but I stay at a metropolitan city now for my education. Whenever I get vacation I meet my mother at my village home. On an average Ispend 2/3 months with my mother each year but I talk to her over phone almost twice a day.The reasons why I admire her are endless. She is caring, tender, she has got a big heart and she possesses love for everyone. She had been an ideal mother to raise 3 kids and making sure our education and moral values. She had made a lot of sacrifices all of her life and had never complained about anything to my best knowledge. She is the person who reminds me the power of love and caring. 2I have got 6 family members and all of them are very dear and close to me. If I need to pick one family member among them to talk about, that would be my father. My father’s name is (say your father’s name) and he is around 50 years old. He is the kind of person I would want my offspring to be. He did his graduation in a time when formal education was not people’s first choice. They would rather start earning from work rather than going to school. My father fought to ensure his education with the people who thought working or doing some sort of business has more value than education. But my father believed that education is the most important part of a man’s life. He heartily held the idea that education shapes a man’s life and is the kind of power and asset that would always accompany him.I have lots of memories of my father and I see him every day. There exists a strong bonding between us that only two of us feel.I still remember those days of my childhood when I used to wait in the evening for my father to return from office. He would then play with me and help on completing my lessons. I vividly remember him sometimes taking me to the market and buy me gifts. When I was an infant he moved to the city from the villageto ensure me better schooling and environment. That was a decision that has changed my life path. He himself helped me finishing my home works and lessons, always allured me of gifts if I could complete my study. Besides my education he taught me lots of moral values and important things of life.He used to work in a Government organization and for his hard-working and kindness; he is revered by all of our relatives, his friends and neighbors. He believes in humanity, good behavior, our creator, and leads a life that can be exemplary. He still does most of his own works and helps my mom on her house hold works. After retirement he has picked 2 new habits: gardening and teaching neighbors’ kids. He is a quiet and intelligent man who has benevolent heart and that what make him so admirable to me. He is still the pillar of our family and all of our family members love and respect him very much.Tips for answering this Cue Card Sample:You already know a lot about your family members and this cue card should be an easy one to answer. 1. Oh, those stubborn - minded folks in the IELTS speaking test! You know, it's like they've got their minds locked in a box and they just won't let anything new in. For example, I once met a guy preparing for IELTS speaking. He was so set on using only the big, fancy words he'd memorized. When the teacher suggested a more natural and simple way to answer a question about his hobby, he just shook his head and said, "No, this is the right way." It was like he thought his way was the only highway to a good score, but really, it made his answers sound so robotic.2. IELTS speaking can be a real battlefield for the obstinate ones. They're like mules, just won't budge from their own ideas. I remember there was this girl in my study group. We were discussing how to describe a memorable event. Everyone was sharing different perspectives, but she was adamant that her way of starting with a long - winded introduction was the best. "I always start like this," she said. Well, when she practiced, it was clear that her way made the whole story seem so forced, like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.3. You've probably seen those stubborn people in IELTS speaking too. They're like old - fashioned clocks, always ticking in the same way, no matter what. Take my friend Jack, for instance. He had this fixed idea that speaking really fast would show his fluency. So, during his mock test, he rattled off his answers like a machine gun. But the examiner could hardly follow him! And when we told him to slow down a bit, he scoffed and said, "This is how it should be done." What a pity, he was missing the point completely.4. Stubborn people in IELTS speaking are quite a sight. It's as ifthey're wearing blinders and can only see their own way. There was this guyat the IELTS prep center. When it came to answering questions about culture, he kept repeating the same general statements he'd read in a book. We tried to tell him to add some personal experiences or unique views. "Nah, this is enough," he said dismissively. But his answers were so dull, like a flat soda with no fizz.5. In the world of IELTS speaking, the head - strong ones are a bit ofa headache. They're like a ship that's set its course and won't change direction, no matter the storm. I had a classmate who was convinced that using lots of idioms, even if they didn't quite fit, was the key to a high score. When the tutor advised against it, she was all like, "I know whatI'm doing." But in reality, her misuse of idioms just made her sound confused, like a lost puppy in a big city.6. Those dogmatic people in IELTS speaking can be quite a challenge. They're like a broken record, repeating the same old pattern over and over.I recall a situation where a student was so fixated on a particular accent. He thought that mimicking a certain posh accent would make him stand out.He ignored all the advice about clear pronunciation and intonation. "Thisis the accent that will get me an 8," he boasted. But when he actually spoke, it was more like a caricature than a natural speaker.7. IELTS speaking and the stubborn - hearted? It's a tough mix. They're like a child who refuses to try new foods, only sticking to what they know. There was a girl I knew who was preparing for the test. She had a setformat for every type of question. When we tried to introduce her to more flexible ways of answering, she wrinkled her nose and said, "I don't need that." Her answers became so predictable, like the sunrise every morning.8. The obstinate individuals in IELTS speaking are a mystery sometimes. It's as if they live in their own little world where their ideas are theonly ones that matter. For example, there was this man who believed that using complex grammar structures at all costs was the way to go. He didn't care if it made his sentences convoluted and hard to understand. "This is advanced English," he said proudly. But it was like building a tower of blocks without a solid base, and it all just came crashing down in the end.9. Oh, the stubborn souls in IELTS speaking! They're like a horse with blinkers on, only seeing one path. I met someone who thought that if hejust talked a lot, without really listening to the question, he would do well. So during his practice test, he rambled on and on. When the examiner tried to steer him back on track, he just kept going. "I have a lot to say," he said stubbornly. But he missed the whole point of the question, like a runner who runs in the wrong direction.10. In IELTS speaking, the unyielding ones can be a real pain. They're like a statue, unmovable in their beliefs. I had an acquaintance who was certain that humor was not allowed in the test. When others shared examples of how appropriate humor could enhance an answer, he shook his head firmly. "It's not professional," he said. But he was missing out on a great opportunity to make his answers more engaging, like a party without any music.。
很多人在回答这类问题的时候答案可能是这样的“ yes, i like animals/ sports/ shopping, because…”
我们考试的时候永远需要谨记的一条法则是“ the examiner doesn’t care what you say, but definitely he or she cares about how you say it”.
1. 以下是一些表达“like”的替换措辞:i am fairly / pretty keen on….
)I am really into…I am quite a big fan of…I simply adore…I am quite enthusiastic / passionate about….I actually prefer …. (做喜好对比时)I am quite fond of ….I am quite partial to….2.
1. We have to work this problem out by tomorrow.
首先例如解决问题,老美除了说solve 之外,也超爱用work out的,所以解决一个问题你不但可以说solve a problem,还可以说work a problem out。
不过有时候还要看看上下文的意思,如果我说,“Let’s work out some plans for the holiday.〞这里的work out翻成解决当然不太恰当,所以你可以把它翻成“作出来〞。
例如你写了一个程式,但你不知道能不能成功地执行,你就可以说,“Idon’t know if this program is gonna work out.〞(我不知道这个程式会不会成功。
)或是男女朋友交往,但你觉得你们俩个人不可能有结果,这句话就是,“I don’t feel this relationship is gonna workout.〞当然啦,许多人都知道work out 还可以代表运动(exercise)的意思。

Show that you understand all of the questionMany questions are very similar in IELTS, but a small part of the question is different. To get the highest score possible you need to demonstrate that you understand ALL parts of the questions. For example, there are often questions about your hometown. These questions will always have some small detail of the question that is different. Take a look:Question: Tell me aboutthe neighborhood of your hometown where youlive.Bad: My hometown is very beautiful and it has many interesting sights for visitors to see.

LH: Larry,
LL: Yeah, I know. And best of all, the second bedroom will be a great place for me to keep my collection of Chia pets.
LL: Shhh! Don't let the landlord hear that I don't have any other options. I don't want to tip my hand when we negotiate over the price.
LH: Tip?
LL: No no, tip my hand. When you tip your hand, it means that you give someone else secret information.
LL: Exactly. You can remember it by thinking about playing cards. If you tip your hand forward so that other people can see your cards, you give the other players an advantage.
LL: Say, what are you going to get me for a house-warming present? Maybe that new Barack Obama Chia pet that just came out?
LL: Fair enough. But just in case you were wondering what I want, I'll tip my hand a little bit and tell you that I love Chia pets, and I also love Barack Obama.
LL: Well I asked my boss for a big raise last week, but so far she hasn't said whether she will accept my offer. I bet if I threaten to quit she will be forced to tip her hand.
