谈谈worth和worthy的用法worth和worthy作形容词，都可以作“值得的”解，但其用法有差异，请比较下面例句中worth和worthy的主要用法区别：
1.The film is worth seeing.
2.The film is worthy of being seen.
3.It’s worth while to see (seeing) the film.
4.The film is worthy to be seen.
以上例句意思一样（都可以译作“这部电影值得一看”），但句型结构迥然不同。
例1表明worth后要用动名词的主动形式表示被动意义。
例2则说明worthy后应加of（of可以省略）再接动名词被动形式。
例3告诉我们（it is）worth后要加while也能跟动名词的主动形式。
例4表明worthy后可直接跟不定式的被动形式。
在语法功能上，例3中的it为形式主语，而不不定式动名词短语才是真正主语，因此，该句还可以转换为：To see (seeing) the film is worth while. (说明：不及原句自然。
)例4中的不定式却与前面的worthy一道用作表语（说明：worth和worthy都不能单独作表语）。
请读者还要注意：
A．表示某物值多少钱通常用worth而不用worthy：The TV set is worth $500.
B．worth 为表语形容词，因而只能作表语，而worthy既可作表语又可作定语：He is a worthy man.
C．worth后可直接跟名词（一般限于表示消耗量，价值以及表示动作的名词）,而worthy后须有of才能跟名词：
The book is worth notice. 这本书值得注意。
His deed is worthy of praise. 他的行为应受到赞扬。
D．表示“很值得”，要用well修饰，不可用very修饰：The story is well worth listening to. 这个故事很值得一听。
E．表示“值得被某人…”,不说“worth某人’s-ing”,可以用下列句型：
It is worth our while to see the play.
It is worth while for us to see the play.
The play is worthy to be seen by us.
