Lead-in Look at some pictures and ask: What were they doing when

it began to rain?

Step 1 Explanation of the uses about “when and while”.

Step 2 Do some exercise.

Step 3 Activity 4a.

Look at the table and write sentences with both while and

when.

Step 4 Activity 4b.

Fill in the blanks with was, were, when or while.

Step 5 Exercises.

Do oral practice by pictures.

Step 6 Explain the use of the past progressive tense clearly.

Step 7 Compare it with the past tense.

Step 8 Underline the correct form of the verbs.

Step 9 Activity 4c.
