〔一〕难句理解

1. They will be meeting at a major hotel with local business people

and people who represent the Chinese government. 他们将在一家大饭店同当地的商务人员和中国政府官员会晤。

will be meeting 将要会见

will / shall be doing 口语中常用来表示“预料将要发生的动作〞

1〕When will you be visiting us again? 你什么时候再来看望我们。

2〕I shall shortly be attending an international conference. 不久,我就要参加一个会议。

3〕They will be arriving here tomorrow. They will be coming by train

and most of the young people in the town will be meeting them at the

station.

2. Not all cultures greet each other the same way, nor are they comfortable touching strangers or being too close or too far away.各种文化背景下的人互相问候的方式不尽相同,触摸陌生人、彼此靠的太近或距离太远,都会使人感到不舒服。

以so, nor为后一句开头,表示某人或某事“也是这样〞或“也不是这样〞,用倒装。

结构:前句是肯句,后用so + be ( have, 助动词、情态动词) + 主语;

前句是否句,后用nor (neither) + be ( have, 助动词、情态动词) + 主语;

1〕She can’t get there at four, nor can I .

2〕If he goes there, so will I .

3. In most countries, nodding the head up and down shows agreement,

while shaking the head means that you do not agree, or that you refuse

to do something. 在大多数国家,点头表示同意,摇头那么表示不同意,或不愿意去做某件事。

v.-ing 做主语

Getting up early is a good habit.

Reading is learning, but applying is also learning and the more

important kind of learning.

while 表示两者比照

I like tea while he likes coffee.

4. That is what French people usually do when they meet people they

know. You introduce them to each other, and are surprised by what you see.

what 引导的名词从句

翻译:They carefully observe what they are interested in.

They look at the world and try to describe and explain what they see.

What he has said and done have nothing to do with you.

What he needs are money and housing.

〔二〕词汇:

1. major adj. more important; greater 〔较〕重要的;〔较〕大的;主要的。

1〕The major part of the town was ruined. 这个城镇大都已成为废墟。

2〕This is a major question. 这是主要问题。

major road 干路, 要道

3〕The car needs major repairs. 这辆车需要大修。

4〕He is a major writer. 他是位大作家。

major vi. Daisy majors in French. 黛茜是法语专业的。

major n. 专业,专业学生

1〕Her major subject is chemistry. 她的主修科是化学。

2〕Physics was his major物理是他的主修科。

3〕He is a history major. 他是历史专业的学生。

相关词汇:

majority n. (U) 多数,大多数,过半数。〔作主语时可用单数,也可用复数〕 1〕They majority of the people speak English. 大多数人讲英语。

2〕The majority of the students were ( was ) present. 大多数学生出席了。

minor adj. 较小的,较少的,较年幼的

2. appear vi. 出现, 显露,〔演员〕出场, 〔〕出

My friends didn’t appear until six o’clock.

句型:appear + (to be ) + 表语 / appear to do 好似〔是〕,似乎, 仿佛

He appears quite old. 他显得很老。

It appears (to be ) a true story. 这似乎是真事。

句型:appear + 从句 好似

It appears to me that she will win. 我看她要赢。

比拟:appear , seem , look三者都作“看起来似〞解。

appear 强调外表给人的印象,有时含有实质上并非如此的意思。

He appears to know more than he really does.

他看起来好似懂得很多,其实懂得没有那么多。

seem 暗示有一根据的判断,这种判断往往接近真实。

His health seems to be better. 他的健康状况似乎有好转。

look 着重由视觉得出印象。

He doesn’t look his age. 他看上去与年龄不符。〔比实际年轻或年老。〕

It looks as if we are going to miss the train. 我们好似赶不上火车了。 appear , seem , look 均可作系动词, 后接形容词、名词或to be,意思相近。

例: 他看起来好似很生气。

He looks (to be ) angry.

He seems (to be) angry.

He appears ( to be ) angry.

appear 和 seem 后可接 to do , 而look 当此意讲时,只能与to be 连用。

The teacher seems to know about it. 老师似乎已了解此事。

She looks to know it 她盼望知道此事。

appear , seem 可用于 it appears / seems that … 结构, look 不能.

appear, seem, look都可接as if 引导的状语从句.

appear , seem 属于be一类的动词, 可用于 there be 句型, 但look 不能.

There seems / appears to be no need to go now. 看来没必要现在去.

She looks like her mother.

seem, look 后可接like, 而appear 一般不能.

North Wales seems like a good place for a holiday. 北威尔士看起来像一个度假的好地方.

3. similar adj. like, of the same sort 类似的,相似的

My husband and I have similar tastes in music. 我丈夫和我对于音乐有相似的爱好。

Some body language is similar everywhere. 有些肢体语言到处都相似。 sth./ sb. be similar to 与……相似

sth. be familiar to sb. 某人对某物熟悉

A be different from B A 与B不同

这辆车与她的相似。This car is similar to hers.

e.g. 这辆车与她的不同。The car is different from hers.

我对她很熟悉。I am familiar with her.

我对这个女孩很熟悉。The girl is familiar to me.

4. protect vt. 保护……, 使……免受伤害.

protect sth. from …

1〕If you stand holding your arms across your chest, you may be

protecting yourself --- just from conversation you don’t want! 如果你站在那儿,双臂交叉放在胸前,你可能是在保护自己,躲开你不想进行的谈话。

2〕An umbrella will protect you from the rain. 雨伞可以保护你免受雨淋。

3〕She protected her eyes from the sun with her hand. 她用手遮住太阳以保护眼睛。
