B Lion dancing first started in China about 1,500 years ago. It has been part of Chinese traditional culture. It is often seen in different celebrations. Chinese people believe that lions can bring good luck. Of course, the lions are not real lions. Usually, in lion dancing, a lion is made up of two dancers in lion costumes (服装). One dancer controls the head. The other controls the tail. Lion dancing is often performed by one or more lions. They dance to the beat of a drum. In the past, lion dancing was performed mostly by men. But today, women can also join in it. Lion dancing is popular around the world.
