Phonetic Teaching Lesson Plan with 48 International Phonetic Symbols
Lesson 1: Introduction to International Phonetic Symbols
Objective: To introduce students to the 48 core symbols of the
International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) and their corresponding sounds.
Materials needed: IPA chart, whiteboard, markers
Procedure:
1. Begin by showing students the IPA chart and explaining that it is used
to represent the sounds of all languages.
2. Introduce the first 16 symbols and their sounds, practicing each one
aloud as a class.
3. Have students practice writing the symbols and saying the
corresponding sounds.
4. Repeat this process for the next set of 16 symbols, and then the final
set of 16 symbols.
5. Review all 48 symbols and their sounds with the class.
