Rita and David Grant and their twins, Jack and

Lucky Boy Who is Paid to Play

Eight-year-old James began his first job this year—as a tester for a toy (玩具) factory.

He plays with new toys before anyone else and says what he thinks of them. His reviews (评论) are posted on the Internet so that other children can see them. He doesn’t get money, but

every month the toy factory pays him in toys.

James became a toy tester after winning a competition. Children had to write to the toy

factory and say why they should get the job. James worked very hard so that he could win. He

wrote a long letter, drew some pictures and added a photo of himself dresses as Pierro, his

favorite toy character, “ James’s letter made us excited and moved, ” said a factory worker.

“Toy testers need to give us good feedback (反馈) . They also need to think of ways to make

the toys better. They even need to come up with ideas for new ones! James is great at all of

these things.”

Before he started his job, James had some speech problems and he was shy. However,

“ the job has made James more confident (自信) and outgoing,” said his mum. His teacher

agreed. “James is better at talking to people now,” he said. “He has also home very

hard-working! He wants to show everyone that he can keep up with both his jobs and his

schoolwork.”

James is a caring and warm-hearted boy. After he got the free toys from the factory, he
