provide sth. for sb向某人提供某物，也可用provide sb. with sth. 意思相同，可互换，但介词不可混淆。
They provided some necessary support for the sufferers. They provided the sufferers with some necessary support.
他们为受难者提供了一些必要的援助。
cost
(1)s th. costs (sb.) ＋金钱,某物花了（某人）多少钱。
A new computer costs (me) a lot of money. 买一台新电脑要花一大笔钱。
(2)(doing) sth. costs (sb.) ＋时间,某物（做某事）花了（某人）多少时间。
Remembering these new words cost him a lot of time. 他花了大量时间才记住了这些单词。

historic与historical的区别
1. historic 主要指历史上有名或具有历史意义，侧重强调其影响性。
如：
a historic character 历史名人
a historic building 具有历史意义的建筑
2. historical 主要指历史上发生过或存在过的，侧重强调其真实性。
如：
a historical novel 历史小说
a historical character 历史人物
▲有时同一个名词，用两者修饰都可以，但含义不同：我们说历史上某一次战斗是a historic event，那是说这次战斗在历史上有名或有影响；同时也可以说它是 a historical event，那是说它在历史上的确发生过。
freezing point凝固点，凝固温度freezing cold adj.非常冷的
Shut the window I'm freezing! 关上窗户--我冷极了！
The temperature remained below freezing all day. 温度整天都在冰点以下。
frozen过去分词，含有被动性，“做成冰的、覆盖着冰的或冰环绕的”。
如：
The lake was frozen over until late spring. 那湖全让冰封住了，到晚春才解冻。
