What’s MOOC? Teachers record teaching videos and upload the videos to the Internet ,then students take classes online. This teaching model is called MOOC. Starting from 2008, MOOCs were adopted by a large number of educators. Some professors even predicted that it would replace classroom teaching for its convenience. And more and more parents like to order MOOCs for their children. Although the MOOC is getting popular now, I don’t think it will replace classroom teaching for classroom teaching’s higher qu ality and cheapness.
The quality of MOOCs’ education is poorer than classroom teaching. Less supervision and less self-study enthusiasm lead to lower students’ concentration degree. Specially for students with low conscientiousness, across the screen, there is no incentive forcing them to study carefully. Moreover, interaction between teachers and students will reduce, which makes teachers who are used to receiving immediate feedbacks feel at a loss. As a result, the quality of MOOC declines. What’s more, the traditional classroom teaching is cheaper than MOOCs. For rural students, Internet is expensive even unaccessible. Until now, Internet penetration just reached 61.2%. Many rural students are unable to surf the Internet, not to speak studying the MOOCs.
However, there are still some people saying that MOOCs are more convenient. Location freedom and time freedom do bring convenience to people who are busy with their work. But if you submit a question, getting teachers’ feedback need a long time, which is n ot convenient at all. And w ithout teachers’ supervision and immediate feedback, under huge working pressure, how long will they keep learning? No matter how MOOCs are convenient, they cannot replace classroom teaching, but they may combine with traditional classroom teaching.
In a word, MOOCs can be a king of traditional classroom teaching’s complement but not substituti on.。
