It made me appreciate how many unique sporting traditions there are globally.After all that, our teacher assigned us to come up with ideas for a new sport or game to present to the class. My idea is to combine aspects of tag, dodgeball, and capture the flag into a fast-paced running game I'm calling "Territory Wars." You haveto run and claim zones while avoiding getting hit by soft projectiles from the other team. It would be awesome to play at a big arena or even outdoors in a park! I can't wait to pitch my idea.We also had to write persuasive essays arguing whether schools should require daily physical education classes or not. I was on the "pro" side, making points about how exercise is proven to boost brain function, reduce stress and anxiety, and promote overall health. Lots of studies show students perform better academically when they get regular physical activity. Plus it teaches important skills like teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. I tried to strike a balanced tone though and acknowledge potential drawbacks like time taken away from core subjects and inability for students with disabilities to fully participate in traditional PE curriculums.Overall, this unit has been my favorite so far this year! I've discovered new interests like learning about niche international sports. And it really drove home how beneficial regular exercise and being part of an athletic community can be, even if you're not a star athlete.
