常与than连用，构成would rather than,表示“宁愿..... 而不愿..... ' I would rather fail than cheat in the examination. 我宁愿考试不及格,也不愿意考试作弊。
would rather^N因人称而改变,后崖艮从句（谓语用虚拟语气）。
We'd rather you didn't smoke in our home. 我们希望你不要在我们家抽烟。
