I. 简要介绍【General Introduction】
一、地理位置【Location】
美利坚合众国【The United State of America】，又叫美国【the States/the US/USA】或者山姆大叔【Uncle Sam】
美国主要大陆面积地处北美洲中部，北部与加拿大接壤，南部与墨西哥接壤。
美国大陆东临大西洋【the Atlantic Ocean】，西面太平洋【the Pacific Ocean】，南部则是墨西哥湾【the Gulf of Mexico】。
二、美国国旗【American National Flag】
美国国旗最初于1777年7月14日面世，
国旗上有13条条纹，象征着美国最初的13个州，
现在的美国国旗上有50颗星星，象征着现在美国的50个州，
美国国旗总共有三种颜色：白色、红色、蓝色。
II. 地理【Geography】
美国的国土面积是930万平方公里，国土面积位居世界第四，位于俄罗斯、加拿大、中国之后。
美国是由50个州组成的联邦共和制国家。
美国最大的州是阿拉斯加【Alaska】，最小的州是罗德岛【Rhode Island】，
美国大陆最大的州是德克萨斯州【Texas】，

1600s brought as slaves, 1800 slave trade stopped but a million slaves in
USA- mainly in southern plantations, 1865 got ‘freedom’ but still
massive discrimination, opposition to discrimination led by NAACP.
1950s 60s 70s saw a lot of legislation to stop discrimination and also the
civil rights movement. Whilst formal discrimination has ceased some
subtle forms remain

The United States of America (also referred to as the United States, the
U.S., the USA, or America) is a federal constitutional republic comprising
fifty states and a federal district. The country is situated mostly in central
North America, where its forty-eight contiguous states and
Washington, D.C., the capital district, lie between the Pacific and Atlantic
Oceans, bordered by Canada to the north and Mexico to the south. The
state of Alaska is in the northwest of the continent, with Canada to the
east and Russia to the west across the Bering Strait. The state of Hawaii is
an archipelago in the mid-Pacific. The country also possesses several
territories in the Caribbean and Pacific.
At 3.79 million square miles and with over 310 million people, the
