Most of us spend our lives seeking the natural world. We go fishing, sit in the garden, have a picnic, live in the suburbs or go to the seaside. The most popular leisure activity in Britain is going for a walk. When joggers jog, they don't run the streets. Every one of them tend to go to the park or the river. But despite this, our children are growing up nature deprived (剥夺)).1 spent my boyhood climbing trees. These days, children are robbed of these ancient freedoms, due to problems like crime, traffic, the loss of the open spaces and strange new ideas about what is best for children, that is to say, things that can be bought, rather than things that can be found. The truth is to be found elsewhere. A study in the US: families had moved to better bousing and the children were assessed(评估)for ADHD﹣attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (多动症).Those whose accommodation had more natural views showed an improvement of 19%; those who had the same improvement in material surroundings but no nice view improved just 4%.ADHD is one of the great problems of modem childhood. One study after another indicates that contact with nature gives huge benefits to ADHD children. However, we spend money on drugs rather than on green places. The life of old people is measurably better when they have access to nature. The increasing concern for the growing population of old people is in quality rather than quantity of years. And study after study finds that a garden is the single most important thing in finding that quality. Even problems with crime and aggressive behavior are reduced when there is contact with the natural world. We need the wild world. It is essential to our well﹣being, our health and our happiness.(1)According to the author, people enjoy________to seek nature.A.jogging on the streetB. shopping in the supermarketC.sitting in the gardenD. running in the gym.(2)From the second paragraph, we can see that________.A.children probably spend less time in nature nowadaysB.adults deprive the children of their rights to approach natureC.climbing trees will certainly do good to the childrenD.children tend to be happier as a result of their material satisfaction.(3)In what way do people benefit from their contact with nature?________A.Children with ADHD can be cured.B.Children's performance at school is greatly improved.C.A garden nearby improves the quality of old people's life.D.Problems with crime and violent behavior will easily be solved..(4)What is the main idea of this passage?________A.Nature treats children with ADHD.Access to nature improves our life.B.Getting close to nature reduces crime.C.Man can't live without natural areas.A.Delayed answers are lies.B.It is unfair to require all to answer slowly.C.Delayed answers can lead to misjudgment.D.Delayed response should be ignored completely.5.Genetic(基因的)testing cannot tell teachers anything useful about an individual pupil's educational achievement. That is the conclusion of a study that looked at how well so-called polygenic scores for education predict a person's educational achievements, based on a long-term study of thousands of people in the UK. "Some people with a very low genetic score are very high performers at age 16. Some are even in the top 3 percent," says Tim Morris at the University of Bristol, UK.And while Morris expects the accuracy of polygenic scores for educational achievements to improve, he doesn't think they will ever be good enough to predict how well an individual will do. Even relatively simple qualities such as height are influenced by thousands of genetic variants, each of which may only have a tiny effect. It has been claimed that polygenic scores can be used to make useful predictions, such as a person's likelihood of developing various diseases. One company is even offering embryo screening(screening of an unborn baby in the very stages of development)based on polygenic scores for disease risk. Some researchers—notably Robert Plomin of King's College London—think that schools should start using polygenic scores for educational achievement. In most cases, the scores may reflect qualities such as persistence as well as intelligence. To assess the usefulness of polygenic scores in education, Morris and his colleagues calculated them for 8,000 people in Bristol who are part of a long-term study known as the Children of the 90s. The participants' genomes have been queued and their academic results are available to researchers. Among other things, the team found a correlation of 0.4 between a person's polygenic score and their exam results at age 16. But there would need to be a correlation of at least 0.8 to make useful predictions about individuals, says Morris.Plomin, however, argues that the results support his opinion. "A correlation of 0.4 makes it the strongest polygenic predictor in the behavioural sciences," says Plomin. "It's so much stronger than a lot of other things we base decisions on. So it's a very big finding."Morris says schools already have access to other predictors that are more accurate, such as a pupil's earlier test results. Looking at parents' educational achievements is also a better predictor of a pupil's academic results than studying their genome, his results show. Providing teachers with an extra predictor based on genetics would just confuse matters, says Morris, and the cost cannot be justified.(1)In paragraph 2, Morris talks about "height" in order to tell readers that ________.A.some qualities are hardly affected by any genetic variantsB.some qualities are influenced by thousands of genetic variantsC.genetic scores are useful in predicting one's potential diseasesD.genetic scores can help children improve their scores at school(2)How did Morris prove the effect of polygenetic scores in education?A.By providing opposite examples.B.By explaining how the genome works.C.By listing findings from another scientist.D.By presenting facts and data from research.(3)According to Plomin, a correlation of 0.4 is reliable because it is ________.eful in telling you how intelligent and persistent children areeful in predicting people who might struggle academicallyC.stronger compared to other factors in behavioural sciencesD.strongly correlated to children's academic achievements(4)Morris suggested that schools should ________.A.study every pupil's genomesB.spend some money on genetic testsC.know about parents' educational achievementsD.provide teachers with students' genetic information三、书面表达(本题共计 1 小题,共计5分)6. However, the only way for them to get that honey is to find a wild bees' nest and take the honey from it. Often, these nests are high up in trees, and it is difficult to find them. In parts of Africa, though, people and animals looking for honey have a strange and unexpected helper - a little bird called a honey guide. The honey guide does not actually like honey, but it does like the wax in the beehives (蜂房). The little bird cannot reach this wax, which is deep inside the bees' nest. So, when it finds a suitable nest, it looks for someone to help it. The honey guide gives a loud cry that attracts the attention of both passing animals and people. Once it has their attention, it flies through the forest, waiting from time to time for the curious animal or person as it leads them to the nest. When they finally arrive at the nest, the follower reaches in to get at the delicious honey as the bird patiently waits and watches. Some of the honey, and the wax, always fall to the ground, and this is when the honey guide takes its share.Scientists do not know why the honey guide likes eating the wax, but it is very determined in its efforts to get it. The birds seem to be able to smell wax from a long distance away. They will quickly arrive whenever a beekeeper is taking honey from his beehives, and will even enter churches when beeswax candles are being lit.55. Why is it difficult to find a wild bees' nest?A. Although our "act" would last only for a short time, we could see quite a number of interesting things. We all stood at the far end of the studio as workmen prepared the scene, setting up trees at the edge of a winding path. Very soon, bright lights were turned on and the big movie-camera was wheeled into position. The director shouted something to the camera operator and then went to speak to the two famous actors nearby. Since it was hot in the studio, it came as a surprise to us to see one of the actors put on a heavy overcoat and start walking along the path. A big fan began blowing tiny white feathers down on him, and soon the trees were covered in "snow". Two more fans were turned on, and a "strong wind" blew through the trees. The picture looked so real that it made us feel cold. The next scene was a complete contrast(对比).The way it was filmed was quite unusual. Pictures taken on an island in the Pacific were shown on a glass screen. An actor and actress stood in front of the scene so that they looked as if they were at the water's edge on an island. By a simple trick like this, palm trees, sandy beaches, and blue, clear skies had been brought into the studio!Since it was our turn next, we were left wondering what scene would be prepared for us. For a full three minutes in our lives we would be experiencing the excitement of being film”Stars”!59. Who is the author?A. A cameraman.B. A film director.C. A workman for scene settingD. A crowd-scene actor60. What made the author feel cold?A. The heavy snowfall.B. The film being shown.C. The low temperature.D. The man-made scene.61. What would happen in the "three minutes" mentioned, in the last paragraph?A. A new scene would be filmed.B. More stars would act in the film.C. The author would leave the studio.D. The next scene would be prepared.DGrown-ups are often surprised by how well they remember something they learned as children but have never practiced ever since. A man who has not had a chance to go swimming for years can still swim as well as ever when he gets back in the water. He can get on a bicycle after many years and still ride away. He can play catch and hit a ball as well as his son. A mother who has not thought about the words for years can teach her daughter the poem that begins "Twinkle, twinkle, little star" or remember the story of Cinderella or Goldilocks and the Three Bears. One explanation is the law of overlearning, which can be stated as follows: Once we have learned something, additional learning trials increase the length of time we will remember it.In childhood we usually continue to practice such skills as swimming, bicycle riding, and playing baseball long after we have learned them. We continue to listen to and remind ourselves of words such as "Twinkle, twinkle, little star" and childhood tales such as Cinderella and Goldilocks. We not only learn but overlearn. The multiplication tables(乘法口诀表)are an exception to the general rule. that we forget rather quickly the things that we learn in school, because they are another of the things we overlearn in childhood. The law of overlearning explains why cramming(突击学习)for an examination, though it mayresult in a passing grade, is not a satisfactory way to learn a college course. By cramming, a student may learn the subject well enough to get by on the examination, but he is likely soon to forget almost everything he learned. A little overlearning, on the other hand, is really necessary for one's future development.62.What’s the main idea of Paragraph 1?A. Children have a better memory than grown-ups.B. People remember well what they learned in childhood.C. Poem reading is a good way to learn w ords.“D. Stories for children are easy to remember.63. The author explains the law of overlearning byA. presenting research findingsB. setting down general rulesC. using examplesD. making a comparison64. According to the author, being able to use multiplication tables isA. a result of overlearningB. a special case of crammingC. a skill to deal with math problemsD. a basic step towards advanced studies65. It increases students' learning interest.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中最佳选项。

21.(10分)In the workplace,at home,in all areas of life, looking for a reason to laugh is necessary.A sense of humor helps us to get through the dull times, deal with the difficult times, enjoy the good times and manage the scary times.Six﹣year old Hannah experienced one of the most frightening times of her life when she discovered she had cancer. And if she was to give life a shot,Hannah would have to suffer painful, almost endless medical treatments. At one point she lost all her hair due to chemicals pumped into her tiny body.On days when she felt strong enough to get out,she often covered her head. One day while shopping with her mother,Hannah donned a ball cap with a fake small ponytail(马尾辫)sewn into the back.Unless one looked closely, she looked as if she had a full head of hair. Before long Hannah noticed a small boy staring at her as if he were trying to figure out what had happened to thegirl. She tried to ignore him,but he followed her around the store. Finally, she took off her cap showing her shiny, hairless head.In a firm voice she warned,"This is what happens when you don't eat yourvegetables!"I don't know what became of the boy.As for Hannah, her sense of humor helped her get through one oflife's scariest times. As entertainer Bob Hope once said,"I've seen what a good laugh can do.It can transform tears into hope."And sometimes,a little more hope is all we need.(1)What did Hannah suffer when she had cancer?(no more than10words)(2)Why did Hannah cover her head when she went out?(no more than10words)(3)What does the underlined word"donned"mean?(1word)(4)What would the boy probably do after he heard Hannah's words?(no more than10words)(5)What can we learn from Hannah when we meet with difficulties in life?(no more than20words)第二节:书面表达(满分20分)。

(共20小题;每小题2分,满分40分)AOnce upon a time, a circle lost a piece of its own. The circle wanted to be whole, so it went around looking for its missing piece. But because it was incomplete, it could only roll very slowly. It enjoyed the flowers and the sunshine along the way. It talked with worms. It found lots of different pieces, but none of them fit. So it left them all by the side of the road and kept on looking for the missing piece. Then one day the circle found a piece that fit perfectly. It put the missing piece into itself. It could be whole, with nothing missing. It was so happy and began to roll. Now that it was a perfect circle, it could roll very fast, too fast to see flowers or talk to worms. It realized how different the world was when it rolled so quickly. It felt so sad that it stopped, left its found piece by the side of the road and rolled away slowly.Sometimes we are perfect when we lost something. A man who has everything is a poor man in some ways. He will never have hopes, dreams or something better. He will never know someone is loving him or someone is giving him something he has always wanted or never had.We couldn’t be perfect, but we must be brave enough to love, strong enough to forgive, kind enough to share happiness with others and clever enough to know there is enough love around us and then we can always live a wonderful time in our lives.31. She schools her four children at home. On a recent day she brought them to Eco City Farms for a lesson. Her son Alston Clark thinks his experience is very valuable. “I like coming out here,” he says, “You know, you connect with theearth, where your food comes from. You appreciate the food a little bit more.”Margaret Morgan started Eco City Farms. She thinks of it as a place where people can learn to live healthier lives. “Growing food in a community brings people together,” she continues, “Every piece of what we do here is a demonstration to show people everything about how to have an ecofriendly community.” she says. From the Eco City Farms people come to know that they are not only growing food and raising chickens and bees, but improving the soil with compost (肥料) made from food waste.Eco City Farms is an experimental operation. The farm gets its power not from the local electricity networks, but from the sun with solar panels. In winter, the green houses use a geothermal (地热) system.Vegetables can be grown all year. D.Education.CI have raised dogs for many years. I’ve found out what they want and given it to them. When you get a new puppy, like a small baby, its personality is already somewhat established. It may be a “ screamer” or a “cuddler (搂抱型)”or a quiet dog or an energetic dog. All puppies need sleep in massive (大量的) quantities. An energetic puppy will run around and suddenly fall down sound asleep. A quieter puppy will start to show signs of tiredness, then find a place to fall asleep. A “ screamer” will scream for attention: Puppy cries and yelps (狗吠),while a quiet puppy will usually give up and accept bein g put in a box. A “cuddler” will need your body, either your lap or next to you, to sleep soundly.Puppy language is very simple. It is like a baby’s cries. They cry when they are in need or in pain; in need of company, in need of food, in need of sleep, etc.As your dog grows, you should learn what they are saying to you, as they learn to take their cues(暗示) from you. Wherever his imagination goes, man also has a strong wish to go. A large part of the human history is connected with the exploration of the world in which we live. Again and again people have set out with surprising courage and patience to look into unknown regions and lands to see what had not yet been seen, and to make known the unknown. With kites, balloons and aircraft they left the ground to pass through the lower atmosphere. Now outer space is receiving their attention. Why should man take the trouble of conquering space? It is hard to list the specific practical benefits that will result in. But one knows, from past experience in other areas, that man will surely see and discover new things in space that will increase our scientific knowledge, and the new knowledge will find its way into valuable practical uses. What we learn about man himself, from his experience in space, and from the effects of space flights on him, will be extremely valuable. The new techniques developed to carry out the exploration of space, and to keep man alive in space, will certainly find practical uses in everyday life in some ways. The areas that will benefit are manifold. They include communication, generation of power, transportation and travel, food production, materials, fuels and many others. In January, Beijing saw only five days without smog. The rising PM2.5 readings terrified many people, and some health experts said that whenever the smog gets serious, hospitals receive more patients suffering acute respiratory (呼吸系统) and heart diseases.Later, news of polluted underground water in some provinces scared people who wondered whether the water they drink is safe.So the need to emphasize environmental protection while developing the economy is heard everywhere.Smog is especially a common concern. As a popular online post said, air may be the only thing that is equal for everyone, despite your income or profession. People with higher incomes are able to drink only bottled spring water and eat only organic food by paying higher prices, but they breathe the same air as everyone else.At a meeting on Monday, many representatives have expressed their concerns about the air quality, too. One talked about his experience in Beijing. “After taking a taxi from the capital airport to my hotel, which took about an hour, I washed my nose and found the inside of my nose was black. We should ask ourselves this question: Why do we want to develop? It's for living a better life. Dirty air is definitely not a better life,” he said.China needs to develop its economy and invest (投资) in high-tech. Every Chinese has a dream to make China stronger. But without blue sky, clean water and safe food, the achievements in the economy will become meaningless. Space technologies are not to be developed for building a base on Mars so that one day all human beings can move to the red planet because they have destroyed Earth. What the public wants is a strong and beautiful China.
