Private schools
More and more private schools are being set up in China these days ending the state monopoly of the country’s education system. Although private schools are still in the experimental stage and are much more expensive as compared with public schools, there is no lack of application for enrollment.
People welcome private schools for good reasons. First of all, those schools are relieving our government a part of the burden of financing so many schools. Secondly, parents are willing to send their only child to better schools even if it costs more. And having more money than the government-fund public schools, these private schools can attract better teachers. They can also offer better environment including superior living facilities and more advanced teaching equipment.
However, adequate money doesn’t guarantee good education. If not well guided and properly disciplined, the privileged young children might turn out to be new aristocrats there unfit for our highly competitive modern society.
Preserving our environment
Man is slowly polluting his environment. He dirties the air with waste gases; he poisons the water with chemical wastes; he damages the soil with fertilizers. Pollution does great harm to man. As we know, air, water and soil ar e necessary to man’s survival. Polluted air, water and soil make people sick and even cause death. Environmental pollution is becoming one of the most serious problems that mankind faces. Now it is high time just action was taken. First, we should make the public aware of the dangers caused by pollution. Second, we should take pollution control measures to reduce pollution. Third, we should keep our pollution under control. After all, the earth is our home. We must take care of it for ourselves and our descendants.
The positive and negative aspects of exams
As everything has two sides, the existing examination system is not all bad. It certainly has many positive aspects. To begin with, exam is an effective means to assess students’ knowledge and profic iency and to evaluate teachers’ teaching level. Besides, it can help students find out their strong and weak points in learning and make their knowledge permanent. Most important of all, it often serves as a motive to drive students to study hard and get well prepared academically for the future competition. However, it’s often blamed for its obvious defects. First, exams are always overstressed as the aim of both learning and teaching. Thus the exam system is often blamed for the formation of the traditional exam-oriented education system. Second, exams are always associated with the promotion to a higher grade or the admittance to college. Therefore, they’re heavily responsible for the present exam assessment system. Finally, because the system leads to st udents’ heavy study load, and mainly produce students with high scores and poor abilities. It’s always the target of criticism and the focus of the reform. In a word, the disadvantages do outweigh advantages. It is urgent to reform the existing examination system in the new century.
The internet in China
With the arrival of the knowledge economy age, the internet, as a new media, has come into our life. Nowadays, getting on line and using the internet has become popular in China, especially in some big cities. Why is the internet getting so popular in such a short time? The popularity of the internet results from its great utility. With the internet, it’s convenient and fast for people to get a variety of information and what they need is just to press key buttons. Email is another popular use. It can transmit your letter quickly, safely and accurately. Besides, the internet can have some other uses. Doctors may use it to diagnose and treat their patients by discussing or exchanging experience with doctors in other parts of the world. Students may obtain new knowledge from the national long-distance educational system via the internet. Finally, businessmen can conduct e-commence or e-business on the net. With so many uses and advantages, there is no doubt more and more people would be wild to the internet, the information expressway. In short, with the high speed and efficiency, the internet will be more popular in China in the near future.。
