Step Ⅱ Presentation

1.Lead-in.

T:Do you often go to the city library on weekends?

Ss:Yes./No.

T:Do you know where our city library is?

Ss:It is on Wuhu Street.

T:Is there a bookstore near here?

S:Yes,there is.It􀆳s on Changjiang Street.

T:Great.Today,we􀆳ll learn how to describe the location of some public places.

2.Teach Activity 1a.

First,ask students to read the words several times after the recording.

T:(Play the tape)Now,please read the new words after the tape.

Then the students match the words with the places in the picture.When the

students finish it,the teacher asks one student to check.

3.Teach Activity 1b.

(point at the picture and ask)

T:Is there a hospital near here? Ss:Yes,there is.It􀆳s on Bridge Street.

T:What other places are there?Let􀆳s listen to get.

First play the recording.Ask students to circle the places they hear in the

picture in 1a.

Then check the answers.

4.Teach Activity 1c.

First,lead students to read the example conversation.

Then put students into pairs to make conversations using the places in 1a.

Give them several minutes to do it.

As they work,move around the room checking the progress and offering help as

needed.

Finally invite several pairs to act out for the whole class.

Step Ⅲ Practice

1.Teach Activity 2a.

First,lead students to have a look at the pictures and say what they can see

in each picture.

Then ask six students to read the sentences in the box and translate them into

Chinese.

Explain some language points.

2.Teach Activity 2b.

First,lead students to have a quick look at the words and sentences so that they

can know what to do.

Then play the tape for students to listen.Ask them to listen carefully and fill

in the blanks with the words in the box.

After they finish doing the activity,play the tape again to check the answers.

3.Teach Activity 2c. Teacher points to the list of places in 1a and asks a student to read the list

aloud.

Then point to the question and answer in the speech bubbles in 2c and ask a pair

of students to read the conversation to the class.Ask other pairs of students to

repeat the activity if you wish.

Next,have students work in pairs.First,one student asks a question and then the

other student takes a turn.Ask about the buildings in 1a.

You may invite a student to demonstrate the activity.Point to the map and

ask:Where􀆳s the park?

Then choose a student to answer. Guide the student to say:It􀆳s across from the

bank.

Then ask some students to present their questions and answers to the class.

Step Ⅳ Consolidation

Teach Activity 2d.

First,give students several minutes to read through the conversation silently

to get the main idea of it,and underline the difficult language points at the same

time.

Invite a pair of students to role-play the conversation.Correct pronunciation

and intonation mistakes if any.

Then lead students to read the conversation together.Explain a language point

at the same time.

Finally,invite several pairs to act out for the whole class.

In this period,we have learned some vocabulary about places and positions.And

we􀆳ve also learned how to ask for and give directions.
