专业词汇的构成1.词汇的分类专业英语文献中的专业词汇（或科技词汇）一般分为三类：技术词、半技术词和非技术词（或普通词）。
技术词（technical word）指科技术语，用以记录和表达科学技术专门领域的现象、过程、特性、关系、状态、数量等，意义单纯，只有一种专业含义，如bandwidth, flip-flop, microprocessor, rectification。
半技术词（semi-technical words）是指跨学科出现的频率很高的词，在不同的专业领域含有不同的精确含义，如power, carrier等。
非技术词是指在非专业英语中很少使用，却严格属于非专业英语性质的词汇，如application, implementation, to yield 等。
非技术词和普通词（尤其是其中的功能词，如限定词、介词、连词等）词频最高，半技术词出现得最多，词汇覆盖面最大，而技术词词频最低，出现率最小。
２．词汇的构成科技英语词汇中有很大一部分符合构词法。
科技英语构词法主要包括：派生、复合、转化、拼缀、缩略等，下面分别予以介绍。
(1) 派生（derivation）法是通过在原有词或词根的基础上加前缀或（和）后缀而构成新词。
前缀通常用以修饰或改变词意，后缀显示词性。
科技英语中以这一方法构成的新词最多，可以说俯拾皆是，如antiparticle （反粒子），antineutron （反中子），antibody （抗体）；autocorrelation （自相关）等。
需要指出的是以V+er/or 构成的词，有许多是指某一仪器而不指人，如semicorrelator （自相关器），conductor （导体），holder （支架/托）等，这一点译者应留意。
表2.1-2.4分别列出电子与通信专业常用的前后缀及词根。

若词尾变成“-ene”、“-yne”、“-ol”、“-al”、 “-yl”，则表示“烯”、“炔”、“醇”、“醛”、 “基”等。
许多专业名词在字典上查不到，但若掌掌握这种 构词法，通过其前、后缀分别代表的意思，合在 一起即是该词的意义。
➢ Rust resistance = ability to resist rust 防锈 （表示动作对象）
➢ Water vapor = vapor of water 水蒸气 （表示所属关系）
➢ Pollution problem = problem concerning pollution 污染问题（表示有关方面）

一、科技术语构词特点

2半技术词 半技术词（semi-technical words）又称作次 技术词（subtechnical words），是“跨学科出 现的频率很高的独立于上下文的词”(contetxindependent words which occur with high frequency across discplines)。半技术词大部

科技英语（English for Science and Technology，简称EST）是 从事科学技术活动时所使用的英语， 是英语的一种变体（科技文体）。
科技英语由于其内容、使用域和语篇 功能的特殊性，也由于科技工作者长期以 来的语言使用习惯，形成了自身的一些特 点，使其在许多方面有别于日常英语、文 学英语等语体。这些特点主要表现在词汇 和句法两个层面上：

例如，有机化学中，烷烃就是用前缀(如拉丁或希 腊前缀)表示分子中碳原子数再加上“-ane”作词 尾构成的。 若词尾变成“-ene”、“-yne”、“-ol”、“-al”、 “-yl”，则表示“烯”、“炔”、“醇”、 “醛”、“基”等。 许多专业名词在字典上查不到，但若掌掌握这种 构词法，通过其前、后缀分别代表的意思，合在 一起即是该词的意义。 需要注意的是，表中物质的数目词头除前四个另 有名称外，其它均为表上的数目词头。
（一）合成名词
1.名词+名词（n.+ n.） 由两个或两个以上的名词构成一个合 成名词，前面的名词说明后面的名词，其中 心意思由后一个名词表达，它们之间表示着 各种关系，如： Steel pipe = pipe made of steel 铁管（表示 由什么材料制成）

2.3 派生法（Derivation）
派生法就是通过加前、后缀构成一个新词。 这是化工类科技英语中最常用的构词法。 据估计，知道一个前缀可帮助人们认识50 个英语单词。一名科技工作者至少要知道 近50个前缀和30个后缀。这对扩大科技词 汇量，增强自由阅读能力，提高翻译质量， 加快翻译速度都是大有裨益的。

二、 科技英语构词法

构词法也就是词的构成方法，即词在结构上的规律， 科技术语总的构成规则主要有以下几种：
2.1 合成法（Composition）
凡是将两个或两个以上的词合成为一个词 的方法就叫做合成法。目前，这种方法在 英语的构词法中十分普遍，在科技英语中 占有较大的比重。

此类合成形容词中的名词，有时是比喻 的对象

2.2 转化法（Conversion）
在现代英语的发展过程中，基本上摒弃了 词尾的变化，可以把一个单词直接由一种 词类转化为另一种词类，这种构词法称为 转化法。其基本特点是保持了原来的词形， 但改变了原来的词性、词义基本不变或稍 有引申。
