Based on our current research, we have come to realize that theproblem is not our hectic schedule or the plane travel itself; the problem comes from amisconception of what it means to be resilient, and the resuting impact of overworking.[C] We often take a mltaristic, “tough” approach to resilience and determination like aMarine pulling himself through the mud, a boxer going one more round, or a football playerpicking himself up off the ground for one more play. Research has found that there is a direct correlation between lack ofrecovery and increased incidence of health and safety problems. And lack of recovery- -whetherbrains need a rest as much as our bodies do.[K] If you really want to build resilience, you can start by strategically stopping. Give yourselfthe resources to be tough by creating internal and external recovery periods. Amy Blanksondescribes how to strategically stop during the day by using technology to control overworking. She suggests downloading the Instant or Moment apps to see how many times you turn on yourphone each day. You can also use apps like Offtime or Unplugged to create tech free zones bystrategically scheduling automatic airplane modes. The average person turns on their phone 150times every day. If every distraction took only 1 minute, that would account for 2.5 hours a day.[4] In addition, you can take a cognitive break every 90 minutes to charge your batteries. Try tonot have lunch at your desk, but instead spend time outside or with your friends - - not talkingabout work. Take all of your paid time off, which not only gives you recovery periods, but raisesyour productivity and likelihood of promotion.[M] As for us, we've started using our plane time as a work-free zone, and thus time to dipinto the recovery phase. The results have been fantastic. We are usually tired already by the time we get on a plane, and the crowded space and unstable internet connection make work morechallenging. Now, instead of swimming upstream, we relax, sleep, watch movies, or listen tomusic. And when we get off the plane, instead of being depleted, we feel recovered and ready toreturn to the performance zone.第36题It has been found that inadequate recovery often leads to poor health and accidents.第37题Mental relaxation is much needed, just as physical relaxation is.第38题Adequate rest not only helps one recover, but also increases one's work efficiency.第39题The author always has a hectic time before taking a flight.第40题Recovery may not take place even if one seems to have stopped working.第41题It is advised that technology be used to prevent people from overworking.第42题Contrary to popular belief, rest does not equal recovery.第43题The author has come to see that his problem results from a misunderstanding of the meaning ofresilience.第44题People's distorted view about resilience may have developed from their upbringing.第45题People tend to think the more determined they are, the greater their success will be.上一题下一题(46~50/共10题)Section CDirections: There are 2 passages in this section. Over two billion people worldwide now have access to vastly more information than ever before, and can communicate with each other instantly , often using Web—connected mobile devices they carry everywhere。
But the Internet’s tremendous impact has only just begun。
"Mass adoption of the Internet is driving one of the most exciting social, cultural, and political transformations in history, and unlike earlier periods of change, this time the effects are fully global," Schmidt and Cohen write in their new book The New Digital Age.Perhaps the most profound changes will come when the five billion people worldwide who currently lack Internet access get online。

He had been working for a long time on the new game that would have the excitement of American football. Naismith showed the men a basket he had hung at each end of the gym, and explained that they were going to use a round European football. At first everybody tried to throw the ball into the basket no matter where he was standing. “Pass! Pass!” Naismith kept shouting, blowing his whistle to stop the excited players. Slowly, they began to understand what was wanted of them. The problem with the new game, which was soon called “basketball”, was getting the ball out of the basket. In her life time she earned his country’s most highly acclaimed literary award, the Pulitzer Prize, and also the most prestigious form of literary recognition in the world, the Nobel Prize for Literature. Pearl S. Buck was almost a household word throughout much of her lifetime because of her prolific output, which consisted of some eighty-five published works, including several dozen novels, six collections of short stories, fourteen books for children, and more than a dozen works of nonfiction. When she was eighty years old, some twenty-five volumes were awaiting publication. Many of those books were set in China, the land in which she spent so much of her life. Her books and her life served as a bridge between the cultures of the East and the West. As the product of those two cultures shebecame, as she described herself, “mentally bifocal”. Her unique background made her into an unusually interesting and versatile human being. As we examine the life of Pearl Buck, we cannot help but be aware that we are in fact meeting three separate people: a wife and mother, an internationally famous writer, and a humanitarian and philanthropist. One cannot really get to know Pearl Buck without learning about each of the three. Though honored in her lifetime with the William Dean Howell Medal of the American Academy of Arts and Letters in addition to the Nobel and Pulitzer Prizes, Pearl Buck as a total human being, not only a famous author, is a captivating subject of study.36. Based in large part on the work of his predecessors (前辈), sir Isaac Newton deduced (推出) three laws of dynamics which he published in 1667 in his famous " Principia ".Prior to Newton, Aristotle had established that the natural state of a body was a state of rest, and that unless a force acted upon it to maintain motion, a moving body would come to rest. Galileo had succeeded in correctly describing the behavior of falling objects and in recording that no force was required to maintain a body in motion. He noted that the effect of force was to change motion. Huygens recognized that a change in the direction of motion involved acceleration (加速), just as did a change in speed, and further, that the action of a force was required. Kepler deduced the laws describing the motion of planets around the sun. It was primarily from Galileo and Kepler that Newton borrowed.41.Huygens stated that acceleration was required _____.A only for a change in speedB only for a change in directionC neither for a change in direction nor for a change in speedD either for a change in direction or for a change in speed42.
