What Make a Salary Seem Reasonable

Although considerable research attention has been directed at understanding

perceptions of salary fairness, very little attention has been given to how salary

expectations are formed or how trivial elements of the job search context may

influence these expectations.Twoexp eriments demonstrated how the simple

manipulation of response options for a multiple-choice item may influence

subsequent salary expectations and salary satisfaction. Results are discussed in light

of Parducci's(1995) contextual theory.

It has been repeatedly shown that the way in which a question is asked can influence

perceptions of what is normal. For example, Harris found that people who were

asked 'How short was the basketball player?' estimated lower heights than people who

“工资”用英语有三种说法：salary、pay、wages。
